Naoki Hamaguchi reportedly argued inside Square Enix for a physical edition of FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATION, citing fan demand and his own interest in physical media. But “physical” does not mean the complete game will be playable from the disc or card: Square Enix says the announced physical versions require downloads. The game is scheduled for April 8, 2027, and remains unreleased as of October 2026.
Did Hamaguchi personally ensure a physical release?
Not in the sense that he alone controlled Square Enix’s decision. A Tech4Gamers report dated October 2, 2026, drawing on a Radio Times interview, says Hamaguchi made a case within the company for a physical version. He is quoted as saying, “I used my position to put forth an argument for the physical version as much as possible.” The reporting supports saying that he pushed for the option; it does not establish that the final release format was solely his decision. Hamaguchi’s reported case was tied to fan demand and his interest in physical media. In a separate report, GamingBolt said he explained that a download-enabled disc avoided compromising fidelity and quality to fit the game within the selected disc capacity. That is a reported rationale, not confirmation that the entire game is stored on the disc. GamingBolt’s report
