Fetch offers accident-and-illness insurance for dogs and cats, with an optional preventive-care endorsement called Fetch Wellness. Whether it fits depends on the policy issued for your state or province, your pet’s quote, and whether you are comfortable paying the veterinarian first and seeking reimbursement afterward. Fetch’s product pages describe the offering, but the applicable policy governs coverage if the two conflict.
What does Fetch Pet Insurance cover?
Fetch describes its core policy as accident-and-illness coverage. It says members can use veterinarians in the United States and Canada, subject to the policy’s terms and limits. Consult the Fetch coverage page and the sample policy applicable to your jurisdiction before enrolling.

Core accident-and-illness coverage
The core policy is for eligible treatment related to injuries and illnesses. It does not include preventive care unless you add Fetch Wellness. As with any insurance policy, an eligible diagnosis does not by itself guarantee payment: exclusions, deductibles, reimbursement terms, limits, and policy definitions apply.

Fetch describes Wellness as an optional preventive-care insurance endorsement added to the injury-and-illness policy, not as a standalone subscription or reimbursement program. Listed preventive items include exams, vaccines, dental cleanings, spay or neuter procedures, and flea and tick prevention. Benefits are subject to the applicable endorsement and its limits. Pre-existing conditions and exclusions
Fetch defines a pre-existing condition as an injury, illness, or condition with signs or symptoms before enrollment or during the waiting period, and says related claims are generally not covered. Fetch also refers to an exception for curable pre-existing conditions; whether a condition qualifies depends on the applicable policy language. Review its sample policy and terms rather than assuming a particular condition will be covered.
How long are Fetch’s waiting periods?
Fetch’s reimbursement page states a 15-day waiting period for illness coverage, no waiting period for accidents, and no waiting period for optional Wellness. Its U.S. help article separately describes a six-month cruciate exclusion. Waiting-period and orthopedic terms can vary by state or province, so confirm them in the policy offered for your location. Sources: Fetch reimbursement information and Fetch Help Center waiting-period guidance.
Cruciate exclusion and possible waiver
Fetch’s U.S. help page says a policyholder may qualify to have the cruciate exclusion waived if a veterinarian examines the pet within the first 180 days of the policy and the medical record specifically confirms that both knees are healthy. Fetch must receive the documentation. This is not automatic, and the page warns that Fetch does not send a notification when a waiting period ends. Check the policy and the help article for the terms that apply to your state.
How do Fetch claims and reimbursements work?
Fetch describes a pay-first process: you pay the veterinary bill, submit the required materials, and seek reimbursement after approval and satisfaction of the deductible. Its reimbursement page says claims are typically processed in less than 10 days after upload; that is Fetch’s typical timing statement, not a guarantee or an independently verified service level.

How much does Fetch Pet Insurance cost?
Fetch’s current pricing page, accessed in 2026, reports average U.S. monthly prices of $35 for dogs and $22 for cats. These are company-reported averages, not a quote for an individual pet; the page says price varies by age, breed, and location. Fetch’s terms explain that its average-premium data used a $10,000 annual limit, $300 deductible, and 80% reimbursement configuration, based on U.S. annual premiums from July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2025. The configuration is a comparison basis, not a universal plan selection.

For an actual price, use Fetch’s pet insurance cost page to get a quote. Fetch says the deductible, annual payout limit, and reimbursement rate can be adjusted to customize price. Compare quotes using the same settings and pet details; a headline average cannot show what your own policy will cost.
What to check before choosing Fetch
Fetch’s pages state that activation periods, cancellation terms, waiting periods, limitations, exclusions, and other terms may vary by state or province and may change. Sample policies are descriptive and subject to change; the policy controls in a conflict with product information. Fetch identifies AXIS Insurance Company as its U.S. underwriter and AXIS Reinsurance Company (Canadian Branch) as the Canadian underwriter, alongside other administrator and jurisdiction-specific entity names. Read the policy for your jurisdiction to establish the legal roles and coverage terms that apply. See Fetch’s terms and sample policies.

Is Fetch Pet Insurance worth it?
Fetch may suit pet owners seeking accident-and-illness coverage with an optional preventive-care endorsement who can manage upfront veterinary bills while a claim is reviewed. Its reported average prices offer only broad context, and coverage depends on the policy, exclusions, and limits for your jurisdiction. Get a quote for your pet and read that policy before deciding whether its reimbursement structure and terms are a good fit.
