Leonardo Rojas Cruz, a 54-year-old Federal Way, Washington, resident, was sentenced to three years in federal prison on September 30, 2026, for his role in a drug-trafficking conspiracy, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Washington. The Justice Department said the operation involved cocaine and methamphetamine distribution in Seattle, including activity affecting unhoused people in “The Jungle” and the International District.
Who was sentenced, and what was the sentence?
U.S. District Judge Tana Lin sentenced Rojas Cruz on September 30, 2026, to three years in prison. The Justice Department said he was indicted in May 2025 after a lengthy wiretap investigation. It described him as a redistributor who ordered cocaine and methamphetamine in multiple-pound quantities.
The DOJ release also says Rojas Cruz had a prior federal drug-trafficking conviction in Eastern Washington and received a sentence of more than five years in 1991. Addressing him at sentencing, Judge Lin said: “You not only gambled with your own life but with the lives of others as well.”
What did prosecutors say about the Seattle operation?
According to the DOJ sentencing announcement, the conspiracy preyed in part on unhoused people living in Seattle’s “The Jungle,” beneath I-5, and in the Seattle International District. DEA Seattle Field Division Special Agent in Charge Robert A. Saccone said Rojas Cruz “pushed deadly poison into the Chinatown International District, profiting from some of Seattle’s most vulnerable living in ‘The Jungle’.” That is the agency official’s characterization of the case.

What drugs and other items were seized?
The sentencing release gives separate totals for searches on May 29, 2025, and for broader investigation activity in March 2025. Those figures cover distinct events and should not be combined.
| Event | Reported seizures |
|---|---|
| May 29, 2025: officers executed 16 search warrants in Washington, California and Oregon | More than 7 kilograms of cocaine; 18 kilograms of methamphetamine; more than 57,000 fentanyl pills; 17 firearms; and more than $353,000 in cash |
| March 2025: activity during the investigation of this ring and a related ring | 100 pounds of methamphetamine; 111 kilograms of cocaine; 19 kilograms of fentanyl powder; 250,000 fentanyl pills; and 4 kilograms of heroin |
Acting U.S. Attorney Charle Neil Floyd said the March seizures had a street value of nearly $3 million. The DOJ release attributes that broader seizure total to the investigation of this ring and a related one; it is not the tally from the May 29 searches.

What is known about deportation and other sentence terms?
The DOJ says Rojas Cruz will likely be deported after serving his prison term. That is the government’s stated expectation, not confirmation that deportation has occurred or will occur. The release announces a three-year prison sentence but does not specify supervised release, fines or other sentence conditions.
