FC Coins are earned in Ultimate Team; FC Points are optional paid currency. Use Coins for Transfer Market items and offers that accept them. Consider Points only if you want a particular offer that accepts Points and you choose to spend real money. The two currencies overlap in some uses, so check the currency shown on the specific in-game offer before deciding. EA says Points are not required to play Ultimate Team, and buying Coins from third parties is against its rules.
FC Coins and FC Points at a glance
The main difference is how you get each currency: Coins come from playing and permitted in-game transactions, while Points are bought through EA-listed purchase routes. They are not interchangeable balances, and an offer that accepts one does not necessarily accept the other.

| Question | Ultimate Team Coins | FC Points |
|---|---|---|
| How do you get them? | Earn them from matches and mode rewards, or receive Coins by selling tradeable items through ordinary, fair-price market transactions. | Buy them through the in-game store, an official platform store, the EA app, the Companion App where supported, or a trusted retailer; regional and platform conditions apply. |
| Do they cost real money? | EA says players cannot purchase Coins. Buying them from another player or a third party violates EA’s rules. | They are optional paid currency. EA says they are not required to play Ultimate Team. |
| What can they buy? | Tradeable Transfer Market items and some in-game offers that explicitly accept Coins. | Offers such as packs, stadium customization, Draft entries, Evolution slots, Season Pass, and some Clubs cosmetics, depending on the current game and offer. |
| When should you choose them? | When you can earn the currency through play and the item or offer you want accepts Coins. | Only when you want a specific Points-eligible offer and are comfortable paying for the currency. |
| Main risk to avoid | Third-party sellers, Coin transfers, and market activity designed to move Coins rather than make a legitimate item sale. | Unintended spending: check the purchase route, platform and region support, and your Playtime limit. |
EA’s guidance on Points purchases, Coin safety, and in-game uses is available in its FC Points buying guide and Coins and Points safety guide. Availability and accepted currency can change by edition, platform, region, and offer; the current in-game listing is the deciding reference.
What FC Coins are—and how to earn them legitimately
Coins are Ultimate Team’s in-game currency for building a club and accessing offers that accept Coins. EA describes earning them through Ultimate Team matches, mode rewards, and selling tradeable items at fair Transfer Market prices. Quick-selling a tradeable item is another route EA describes. An item must be tradeable to sell on the market; an untradeable item cannot be treated as a market listing to generate Coins.

Play matches and collect mode rewards
Playing Ultimate Team matches can earn Coins, while modes such as Rivals and Squad Battles can provide rewards. The amount is not a permanent rate: it depends on the mode, season, and reward structure. EA’s rules page gives one explicitly time-bound illustration for FC 26 Season 1: example weekly reward ranges were 1,500–25,000 Coins for Rivals, 2,000–85,000 for Champions, and 3,000–20,000 for Squad Battles. These figures describe that season’s examples, not a guaranteed or ongoing earning rate; EA says rewards may change. Check the current mode screen and season details rather than planning around those historical ranges. See EA’s FC rules and rewards guidance.
Those ranges also show why there is no single reliable answer to “How many Coins can I earn per week?” Rewards vary substantially by mode and season, and the upper end of an example range should not be treated as a typical result. A useful approach is to check the reward conditions in the current mode, play the modes you enjoy, and count only Coins and rewards actually offered in your game.
Sell tradeable items at ordinary market prices
If you have a tradeable item you do not need, you can list it for a fair price based on the market. That is different from arranging a sale solely to move Coins: the transaction should be a legitimate exchange for the item at a reasonable market price. You can also quick-sell tradeable items where that option is available, though the return is determined by the game’s offer and may differ from a market sale.

A market sale is a permitted way to earn Coins when it is a real sale at a fair price; it is not a way to send a chosen amount to a friend or another account. Quick-selling is a separate in-game option, so compare the displayed return with what you would prefer to do with the item. Do not assume every item can be listed or that a quick-sell return will match a market price.
There is no safe shortcut through a Coin seller. EA’s own safety guidance says: “You can earn Coins in EAS FC Ultimate Team™ by playing matches or selling Items on the Transfer Market, but you can’t purchase Coins.” The key practical distinction is between earning value through play or a real item transaction and buying or transferring Coins outside those permitted routes.
What FC Points are—and where to get them
FC Points are optional paid currency for offers that accept Points. EA says they are not required to play Ultimate Team. EA’s buying guidance lists several routes: the Ultimate Team store, official platform stores, the EA app, the Companion App in supported situations, and trusted retailers. Physical retailer cards may also be redeemable. Not every route is available on every device, platform, or in every region, so follow EA’s current instructions for your setup rather than assuming an app or card will work everywhere.

Points are not Coins with a different name, nor a guarantee that you will get a particular player or item. They are a payment option for eligible offers. Store contents, bundles, and supported features can change; check what the current offer includes and what it costs before confirming. EA’s guidance describes physical cards as a possible redemption route, but that does not establish that every card listing is compatible with every edition, platform, or region. Verify those details before buying from a retailer.

Check the purchase route before paying
- Identify the platform and region for your game account. Store access and retailer-card support can vary by platform and location.
- Use a purchase channel EA lists for your circumstances. Options include the in-game store and official platform stores; EA also lists its app, supported Companion App situations, and trusted retailers.
- Confirm the Points are for the correct platform and account. If redeeming a physical card, follow the current EA redemption instructions and check compatibility before purchasing.
- Review the price, amount, and confirmation screen. Bundles and store contents can change. Do not assume an old promotion or a product listing is current.
- After an external purchase, allow your account activity to update. EA says purchases made outside Ultimate Team, including cards and direct first-party-store purchases, count in Playtime after redemption and after logging out of Ultimate Team and logging back in.
EA’s instructions for supported channels and purchase conditions are in its FC Points purchasing guide. A retailer’s presence alone does not establish that a particular card is compatible with your title, account, platform, or region. EA lists trusted retailers as a route, but this is not an endorsement of every third-party listing; verify the product and its compatibility before paying.
What can each currency buy?
The currencies have different typical uses, but they are not an absolute “market currency versus premium currency” split. EA lists Points for Ultimate Team packs and stadium customization items, Ultimate Draft entries, Evolution slots, Season Pass, and some cosmetics for a Pro in the Clubs Store. Coins can be used for Transfer Market items and some Ultimate Team offers. The available choices depend on the current edition and the specific offer.
That list is a guide to documented categories, not a promise that every listed item is available in every edition or at every moment. A particular pack, feature, or customization may not appear in your mode or store, and its accepted currency may differ from another offer. Neither balance guarantees access to a specific item unless the live listing says that currency is accepted.
Use the offer screen, not a general rule
Before spending either balance, open the exact item or feature and check which currency the game accepts. If the screen shows Coins, Points, tokens, or another requirement, that listing—not a broad description of the currency—determines how to obtain it. A pack or pass may have different purchase options from another item with a similar name, and availability may vary by mode or account.

EA says Ultimate Team Coins can unlock Premium Pass in Ultimate Team; the options shown can depend on mode, ownership, and available tokens. So it would be inaccurate to assume every pass requires Points or that every premium offer can be bought with Coins. See EA’s Premium Pass guide for the conditions EA documents.

Which should you use?
There is no universal winner. Start with the offer you actually want, then choose among the currencies it accepts. If the item is available on the Transfer Market or through gameplay rewards, Coins let you pursue it without buying Points. If a particular feature accepts Points and you want it enough to spend real money, Points are an option—not a requirement for playing.
For a player who prefers not to spend, the practical answer is to focus on match play, mode rewards, and fair-price sales of tradeable items, then use Coins where accepted. For someone considering a paid purchase, first identify a specific Points-eligible offer and decide whether its real-money cost is worthwhile. Buying a balance without a particular use in mind can leave you paying for currency before you know whether the offer you want is available or accepts it.
Choose Coins when…
- You want tradeable items and are prepared to earn Coins through matches, rewards, or fair-price sales of tradeable items.
- The in-game listing accepts Coins and you would rather work toward the balance than pay for Points.
- You are comparing a market item with a store offer and the market version better suits your club or budget in Coins.
Consider Points when…
- You have identified a specific offer that currently accepts Points.
- You understand the real-money cost and have checked the platform, region, and account compatibility of the purchase route.
- You have set an appropriate spending limit and are willing to treat the purchase as optional entertainment spending.
Pause when…
- You have not checked which currency the exact offer accepts.
- You are considering a Coin seller, transfer, giveaway, or market listing arranged to move Coins. Those are not legitimate earning routes under EA’s rules.
- You are buying Points because you think they are required to play Ultimate Team. EA states they are not.
How to avoid Coin scams and rule violations
Keep Coin activity inside normal gameplay and legitimate market transactions. EA prohibits buying Coins from third parties and Coin distribution, and warns that rule violations can result in account action. Its examples make clear that the risk is not limited to handing someone Coins directly: using the Transfer Market to disguise a transfer can also violate the rules.

Examples of activity to avoid
- Buying Coins from a website, seller, or another player, or paying someone outside the game to obtain them.
- Sending Coins to friends or distributing them to other accounts instead of earning and using them normally.
- Listing or buying an item far above or below its ordinary market price as a way to transfer Coins.
- Using several accounts to funnel value to one account, or offering Coins in exchange for an outside favor.
For a market sale, use a reasonable price and make a real transaction for the item. Do not treat an item listing as a payment channel. If you are unsure whether a proposed transaction is permitted, do not proceed; consult EA’s current FC rules and Coin safety guidance.
Set a Points spending limit with EA Playtime
EA Playtime includes a weekly limit for FC Points purchases. It also tracks packs opened using Points or Ultimate Team Coins. The tracking has a timing condition for purchases made outside Ultimate Team: EA says those purchases count after redemption and after you log out of Ultimate Team and log back in. If a newly redeemed purchase does not appear in Playtime immediately, relogging is part of the documented update process.
Use EA’s current Playtime setup and controls instructions to find the available limit and configure it for your account. A weekly cap is a guardrail, not a reason to spend up to the cap; decide on a personal amount you can afford before buying, and do not rely on memory of an earlier interface or limit setting.

Playtime also distinguishes purchase tracking from pack activity: it tracks packs opened using either FC Points or Ultimate Team Coins. If you buy Points outside Ultimate Team, the documented timing is redemption followed by logging out of Ultimate Team and back in. Check EA’s current instructions if activity does not appear as expected, rather than assuming the purchase failed or repeating it immediately.

“Points are required to play Ultimate Team.”
No. EA calls Points optional and says they are not required. You can play and earn Coins through matches, rewards, and permitted transactions without buying Points.
“Coins can be bought safely from another player.”
No. EA says players cannot purchase Coins and prohibits third-party Coin buying and distribution. A seller’s promise that a transfer is safe does not make it permitted.
“Every offer accepts both currencies.”
No. Some offers may have more than one route, while others accept a specific currency or token. Check the exact in-game offer before you budget or purchase currency.
“Coins are only for the Transfer Market, and Points are only for packs.”
That is too simple. Coins can apply to some Ultimate Team offers, including Premium Pass under EA’s documented conditions; Points can be used for several categories beyond packs. The current offer screen establishes the available payment options.
What to check before spending
- Offer: Does the exact item or feature accept Coins, Points, or another token?
- Cost: If using Points, are you comfortable with the real-money amount and any bundle terms?
- Availability: Is the store option available in your edition, mode, platform, and region right now?
- Source: Are you earning Coins through play and fair market sales, or buying Points through a route EA lists?
- Control: Have you set a Points purchase limit in EA Playtime and allowed external purchases to register after redemption and relogging?
EA’s cited guidance was available on 12 October 2026. Store contents, season rewards, Companion App support, retailer cards, and offer currencies may change, so confirm the live details in-game and in EA Help before acting.

Check EA’s current instructions and confirm that any retailer card is compatible with your game, account, platform, and region.

The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Coins are the earnable route for market items and offers that accept them; FC Points are optional paid currency for specific eligible offers. Check the exact in-game offer first. Earn Coins through play and fair market sales, avoid third-party Coin sellers and transfers, and use Points only through an EA-listed route if you choose to spend. EA says Points are not required to play Ultimate Team.
