FC 26 lag that happens only online calls for a network check; stuttering in offline modes points to a local performance issue. Freezes, crashes, and a black screen at launch need different checks. Start by matching the symptom to when it occurs, then use the relevant steps below—there is no confirmed single fix for every FC 26 crash or black screen.
First, identify when the problem happens
Before changing settings, check whether the fault is limited to online matches, appears in offline modes too, or prevents the game from starting. That distinction helps narrow the next step:

- Online matches only: Check connection quality and service status before changing local game or PC settings.
- Offline play also stutters or feels slow: Investigate local performance rather than assuming the internet connection is responsible.
- The game freezes, crashes, or will not launch: Use the platform-specific support path; reports of similar symptoms do not establish a common cause.
If FC 26 lags or disconnects online
EA explains that game data travels between your local network, your internet service provider, and FC game data centers. “Any delays or interruptions during this process can cause lag, visual stuttering, or a full disconnection,” EA says in its Connection Quality explanation. That makes network checks most relevant when the problem occurs online but not in offline modes.

Try EA’s connection troubleshooting steps
- Restart FC 26 if connection quality has unexpectedly dropped.
- Restart your router and, if it is a separate device, your modem. EA recommends waiting at least 30 seconds before turning them back on.
- Pause competing network activity, such as downloads or HD/4K streaming, while you play.
- If you play over Wi-Fi and the connection is inconsistent, test a wired Ethernet connection. It is a network stability test, not a remedy for crashes, black screens, or offline performance problems.
If Ethernet is not practical, EA says 5 GHz Wi-Fi is generally faster and more stable but has shorter range. The 2.4 GHz band reaches farther, but is generally slower and more prone to higher ping, packet loss, and jitter. See EA’s connection troubleshooting guide for its current steps.
If FC 26 freezes or shows visual glitches
EA’s corrupt-file guidance associates problematic game files with freezing, glitches, disconnections, and matchmaking issues. The article is general EA SPORTS FC guidance surfaced through the FC 26 support hub; check that the menu labels below match your installed game version before removing anything.

Delete eligible files without removing saves
- Launch the game and sign in.
- Open Customise > Profile > Delete.
- Remove eligible files, but keep Online Profiles, any file with Career in its name, and Personal Settings 1.
- Relaunch the game and check whether the symptom remains.
EA warns that deleted Career saves cannot be restored. Keep Personal Settings 1 during routine troubleshooting: deleting it can remove Skill Game progress and your custom controller layout. EA says it may be deleted for some audio or visual problems, so treat that as an optional trade-off rather than a first step. The full EA corrupt-file guidance gives the deletion details.
If FC 26 is slow or stutters offline on PC
When slow-feeling play or stuttering also occurs offline, an online connection is a less direct lead. EA’s FC 26 PC Deep Dive documents a Dynamic Resolution FPS Target option and the ability to choose the active monitor in Borderless or Full Screen mode. These are available PC display and performance options, not established fixes for crashes or a black screen; the PC Deep Dive does not claim that either resolves those faults.

If FC 26 crashes, will not launch, or shows a black screen
One narrow PlayStation support note says FC 26 will not load if it is started before it has fully downloaded while the system language is not English. This applies to that specific PlayStation condition; it does not explain every black screen or establish a cause on PC or Xbox.
For other launch or crash problems, use EA’s technical-issues index to reach current guidance for PC, PlayStation, or Xbox, including platform-specific crash and freezing routes. Its PC support options include graphics, DirectX/EA app, cache, and DxDiag diagnostics. The available guidance does not establish one cross-platform FC 26 fix for crashes or black screens, so avoid assuming that a driver, anti-cheat, installation, or hardware issue is the cause without evidence for your case.
