What happened in the Arnold crash?
Police said officers responded at about 10:30 p.m. on July 27 to a single-vehicle collision on Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard, west of Governor Ritchie Highway. The preliminary account says a southbound 2020 Mazda 3 failed to negotiate a left turn, left the roadway, and struck a guardrail and a tree. Anne Arundel County Police’ account describes the reported sequence; it is not a final finding about cause or fault.
Was anyone killed?
Yes. Fire department members pronounced the driver dead at the scene. Southern Maryland News Net identified him as a 33-year-old man from Charlotte Hall but did not publish his name. The local report cited police.
Is the crash still under investigation?
Police requested the Crash Reconstruction Team, which processed the scene and was handling the investigation. The available reports provide no final investigative conclusion or confirmed cause. They do not establish whether speed, impairment, distraction, road conditions, a vehicle issue, or another factor contributed.

Do not confuse it with another Ritchie Highway crash
The July 27 collision was on Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard near Governor Ritchie Highway in Arnold; it was not the separate July 24 fatal crash at Ritchie Highway and Holsum Way in Glen Burnie. In that earlier incident, police said a Suzuki motorcycle struck the side of a Ford E450 transit bus turning left onto Holsum Way, and the motorcyclist died. The department’s July 24 release concerns that distinct investigation.
A fatal crash at Ritchie Highway and West Ordnance Road in September 2025 was another separate incident. Anne Arundel County Police’s September 30, 2025 release covers that case.
