FastestVPN may be worth considering if low cost, router support and basic VPN features matter more to you than speed or extensive independent assurance. Independent reviews report weak performance compared with leading VPNs, while the only audit identified in the available evidence is a vendor-published report from January 2023 with limited methodological detail. Check the price and renewal terms at checkout before buying; no current price or renewal amount is established here.
What FastestVPN offers
FastestVPN is a consumer VPN service. Its feature page lists apps for Windows, Android, iOS and Mac, plus support for Xbox, Fire TV and routers. The company also advertises WireGuard, OpenVPN, IKEv2, IPSec, OpenConnect and L2TP, alongside a kill switch, DNS leak protection, ad blocking, a NAT firewall, P2P-optimized servers and unlimited bandwidth. These are vendor-listed features, not independent confirmation that every option works identically on every platform. FastestVPN’s feature page describes the product lineup.

FastestVPN advertises up to 10 simultaneous connections and a 31-day refund policy. Treat both as vendor terms to verify against the current plan and checkout conditions, including any exclusions. Router support can be useful for devices without a native VPN app, but the available information does not establish compatibility with a specific router model or firmware. Confirm model-specific setup instructions before buying a router for this purpose.
How strong are its privacy and security protections?
What the audit does—and does not—establish
FastestVPN published a report by Altius IT dated January 2023 that describes a review of its no-logs policy and service. RTINGS identifies it as the only independent privacy audit it found, and criticizes the report for sparse findings and insufficient detail about scope and methodology. The report is evidence that an audit took place; it is not the same as a detailed, current assurance that independently documents every system and data flow.
#1 Best Overall
- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
The audit report also discloses third-party tools and providers used for operational purposes, including Tawk.to for chat, BugSnag for error logging, Firebase for app analytics, Facebook Pixel and Google Analytics. A no-logs claim about VPN browsing activity should not be read as a claim that the company processes no data at all: account, payment, support, diagnostic and analytics data are distinct categories. RTINGS’ review says it found collection and sharing of app analytics, diagnostic data and usage telemetry, and describes the privacy policy as vague. Read the current privacy policy and the January 2023 Altius IT report with that distinction in mind.
Leak protection, kill switch and implementation concerns
In its review, RTINGS reports that testing found effective IP and DNS leak protection, and a kill switch that prevents unencrypted traffic after a connection loss or reboot. The same review reports poor protection against man-in-the-middle attacks, citing TLS verification and BGP implementation weaknesses. These are RTINGS’ findings, not tests conducted for this article, and they make it important to distinguish basic leak prevention from broader security assurance. Security.org’s September 10, 2026 review reports split tunneling on Android and Windows, double VPN, Netflix access and torrenting support. It also counted more than 800 servers in 50 countries and over 100 locations at the time of its review. Those server and feature details are time-sensitive third-party findings, not guarantees of present availability. Security.org’s review provides its review-date context.
How fast is FastestVPN?
RTINGS reports very slow download and upload speeds in its testing and notes that its performance testing was continuing. TechRadar’s September 11, 2026 review likewise says FastestVPN remains behind leading VPNs on performance, despite improvements. Neither assessment supports treating FastestVPN as a strong pick for latency-sensitive gaming, large downloads or consistently high-throughput work.

The advertised 10 Gbps server capacity is not a promise that one subscriber will reach 10 Gbps. Server port capacity and an individual user’s throughput are different measures; actual results depend on factors such as the user’s connection, location, protocol, server load and test conditions. For a speed-sensitive purchase, give more weight to independent measurements that disclose comparable test locations, baselines, devices and protocols than to a headline capacity figure.
Plans, price and refund terms
RTINGS describes one feature tier available through monthly, yearly or one-time payment models, with payment frequency as the distinction. Its review tested a lifetime subscription and notes a one-time payment option, but the evidence here does not establish a current price, renewal amount, tax or currency, lifetime-deal conditions, or current refund eligibility details. Do not assume an old deal price still applies.

Before paying, check the checkout page for your country and record the billing period, renewal amount, refund window and exclusions, and any bundle inclusions. Compare the total cost over the period you expect to use the VPN rather than judging by a discounted first term alone. A long-term or lifetime payment may look cheaper up front, but it is less reversible than a short subscription if performance or policy transparency disappoints.

Who should—and should not—choose FastestVPN?
It may fit
- Budget-focused users who accept performance trade-offs and verify the full payment terms before committing.
- People who need router support or P2P-capable options, provided the exact device, firmware and use case are supported.
- Users who want conventional VPN functions such as a kill switch and multiple protocol options, while understanding that platform availability can vary.
Look elsewhere if
- Speed is a priority: the cited independent reviews report performance behind leading providers.
- Your decision depends on recent, detailed independent privacy assurance: the audit identified here dates to January 2023 and RTINGS considers its scope and methodology insufficiently clear.
- You need strong confidence in protection against sophisticated network attacks: RTINGS flags concerns involving TLS verification and BGP implementation.
- You require a specific streaming service, server location, router model or firmware: verify current support for that exact requirement rather than relying on general feature claims or older server counts.
How to compare it with another VPN
There is no single score that captures whether a VPN is right for you. Prioritize the evidence that addresses your main need:

- Performance: compare tests with disclosed protocol, test location, baseline connection, device and server conditions.
- Reach and compatibility: check current countries and locations, apps, simultaneous connections, router firmware and the services you actually use.
- Total cost and reversibility: compare the current term price, renewal amount, lifetime conditions, refund period and bundle terms for your region.
For a privacy-first buyer, audit detail and data handling deserve more weight than a low introductory price. A budget buyer should calculate cost over the intended subscription period. A speed-sensitive user should favor comparable independent measurements over server-capacity marketing.
What do independent reviews conclude?
RTINGS’ review was published May 13, 2026 and updated to Test Bench 0.11 on July 13, 2026; it reports very slow speeds, functional leak protection and a kill switch, as well as concerns about audit detail and security implementation. TechRadar’s September 11, 2026 review calls the service inexpensive and more capable than before, but still behind leading VPNs in performance; it sees a possible fit for casual users willing to trade performance for price. Taken together, the reviews point to a value-versus-assurance decision, not a clear all-purpose recommendation. Read TechRadar’s review.
