That does not automatically make it the fastest EV you can buy, the quickest from 0–60 mph, or the best road car. Those titles belong to different vehicles and require different evidence.
What “fastest electric car” means
Speed comparisons become misleading when top speed, launch acceleration, quarter-mile time and lap time are merged into one list. This guide separates those metrics and labels manufacturer claims, prototypes and customer-production cars.
- Top speed: the highest recorded terminal speed.
- Acceleration: normally 0–60 mph, with rollout, tires and battery preparation stated.
- Quarter-mile: elapsed time and trap speed, preferably from an independent test.
- Production: a vehicle built or announced for customer delivery, not merely an engineering prototype.
- Road-legal and available: dependent on country, homologation, allocations and delivery evidence.
Fastest electric car by top speed
YANGWANG U9 Xtreme — 496.22 km/h (308.33 mph)
YANGWANG and BYD report that the U9 Xtreme reached 496.22 km/h at ATP Papenburg on September 14, 2025. The company describes it as a production model. Its published technical material highlights a 1,200-volt electrical architecture, four motors, active body control, high-speed tires and revised thermal management. See the official U9 Xtreme page and BYD announcement.
The sources do not establish whether the run was a two-way average, how many customer cars will be built, the exact road-registration status, or ordinary U.S. ordering and delivery. Treat 308.33 mph as a manufacturer-reported test-track result, not proof of universal road legality or broad availability.

| Aspark OWL | 413 km/h (256 mph) | Manufacturer specification; production and delivery status require confirmation (OWL specifications) |
| Rimac Nevera | Exact current figure not stated in the supplied source | Customer-production electric hypercar with four motors and torque vectoring (model page) |
| Lucid Air Sapphire | 205 mph | Official production specification (Lucid announcement) |
| Tesla Model S Plaid | 155 mph with required paid hardware upgrade | Tesla-listed configuration; equipment, wheels, tires and availability are changeable (Tesla Model S page) |
| Porsche Taycan Turbo GT | Variant-specific figure must be checked on the current model-year sheet | U.S. performance model; Weissach and non-Weissach specifications differ (Porsche USA) |
This is not a single-method independent ranking: the entries combine manufacturer specifications and a reported closed-course run.
Fastest electric cars from 0–60 mph
The most defensible published production figure in the supplied material is the Lucid Air Sapphire’s official 1.89-second 0–60 mph, alongside 3.84 seconds from 0–100 mph, an 8.95-second quarter-mile and a 205-mph top speed. Lucid’s test method, rollout treatment, tire setup and battery preparation should be retained when comparing it with other results.

| Lucid Air Sapphire | 1.89 sec | 8.95 sec | 205 mph | Lucid official production specifications |
| Tesla Model S Plaid | Current figure and test conditions not stated here | Not stated | 155 mph configuration requires paid hardware | Check current Tesla configuration |
| Porsche Taycan Turbo GT | Variant-specific figure not stated here | Not stated | Check current Weissach/non-Weissach sheet | Use the exact model year and package |
| Rimac Nevera, Pininfarina Battista and Lotus Evija | Manufacturer figures vary by test standard | Not stated | Use each maker’s stated method | Do not compare without matching rollout and test conditions |
A quoted time may include a one-foot rollout, a preconditioned battery, launch-control software and specialized tires. A result without those details is not directly comparable with an independently tested time.
Fastest on a race track
YANGWANG says the U9 Xtreme completed the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 6:59.157 on August 22, 2025. The BYD announcement should be read for the stated class, track configuration, driver, tires and timing method. A lap record rewards braking, cornering, cooling and aero balance, not just maximum speed, and the announcement alone does not establish independent verification.

Customer-production electric hypercars
Rimac Nevera
The Nevera uses four bespoke permanent-magnet, oil-cooled motors with independent four-wheel torque control, according to Rimac’s engineering description. It is a customer-production hypercar, but limited allocations, service arrangements and local registration still matter to a prospective buyer.
Aspark OWL
Aspark lists a 413-km/h top speed and a 0–300-km/h time of 9.74 seconds. Confirm production quantity, deposits, delivery and road registration before treating the specification as a purchasable car in your market.
Rank #4
- Doors Open
- Pullback Action
- Die Cast Metal Body
- PULL BACK ACTION WITH FREE ROLLING WHEELS
Pininfarina Battista and Lotus Evija
Both are electric hypercars with manufacturer-published performance claims. Those claims should remain attributed to the makers unless an independent test using a stated method is available.
YANGWANG U9 and U9 Xtreme
YANGWANG’s “production” label describes the model in company material, but the reviewed sources do not establish broad international sales, U.S. homologation or normal customer deliveries for the Xtreme.

Fastest electric cars you can buy in the United States
“Fastest in the world” cannot be substituted for “currently orderable in the United States.” The practical shortlist is the Tesla Model S Plaid, Lucid Air Sapphire (where current inventory or ordering is confirmed), and Porsche Taycan Turbo GT. Check each maker’s live configuration page for model year, price, options, delivery and legal equipment on the day you shop. A hypercar’s official product page may represent an allocation or sales inquiry rather than ordinary online purchase.
Quick Recap
Why EVs accelerate so hard
- Multiple motors: four independently controlled motors can distribute torque to each wheel.
- Instant torque and high discharge: inverters and batteries deliver large power bursts without gear changes.
- Traction software: launch control and torque vectoring meter slip many times per second.
- Tires: compound, temperature, width and pressure often decide whether power becomes forward motion.
- Voltage and cooling: higher-voltage systems reduce current for a given power level; battery, inverter and motor cooling preserve output.
- Aerodynamics: low drag helps top speed, while active downforce helps cornering but costs efficiency.
- Mass and control: low-mounted battery weight, suspension control and balanced distribution improve braking and corner exit.
Why the fastest EV may not be the best performance car
- A 300-mph attempt needs a long closed course and specialized tires.
- Peak acceleration may be available only with a high state of charge, preconditioning and a cool-down between runs.
- High-downforce setups corner well but create drag; low-drag setups favor top speed.
- Track tires can be compromised in rain or cold and may be costly or difficult to replace.
- Hypercar service networks, insurance, battery warranties and parts support can be limited.
- A Tesla, Porsche or Lucid may be easier to register, charge, service and use daily than a faster limited-production car.
How to judge an EV performance claim
- Identify the metric: top speed, 0–60 mph, 0–100 km/h, quarter-mile or lap time.
- Check whether the figure is a manufacturer claim, an independent test or a prototype record.
- Record rollout, tires, wheels, battery state, preconditioning, weather and software mode.
- Confirm whether the car is series production, limited production, pre-production, modified or track-only.
- Verify homologation, local ordering, delivery evidence and the exact performance package.
- For ownership, compare charging, range, warranty, service access, insurance and repeatability—not just the headline number.
