What happened to The Witcher: Monster Slayer?
The Witcher: Monster Slayer was a free-to-play, location-based augmented-reality role-playing game for iOS and Android, developed and published by Spokko. It placed monsters in a real-world mobile play experience, according to the official Witcher site.

CD PROJEKT announced the game’s phase-out in December 2022. Its regulatory filing said new distribution through Google Play and the Apple App Store would end on January 31, 2023, and access would be disabled on June 30, 2023. The filing said the latter date would “fully shut down the project.” CD PROJEKT S.A.’s current report described the shutdown plan.
What have fans brought back?
The revival is a community-run technical project, not a restoration of the original official service. Its GitHub repository describes an effort to resurrect the discontinued game by reverse-engineering its Unity client, redirecting its connections, and building a replacement server with ASP.NET Core. The project documentation describes running the original APK on a physical Android device.

In an October 2026 release post, the project maintainer reported a build based on patch 1.1.116 and said the game works offline with most features. That status is the maintainer’s report, not an independent compatibility test; the same post notes exceptions and setup caveats. The release post is the source for that dated status.
Is the revival official?
No. CD PROJEKT’s documented action was to end the official game service in 2023. The surfaced revival materials describe a community project, and do not establish company backing, endorsement, or a corporate relaunch. It should therefore be understood as an unofficial attempt to make the game playable again.

What do you need to try it?
The clearest documented fit is a physical Android smartphone. Community setup notes also report needing a Google account that had previously installed The Witcher: Monster Slayer. These are current community-reported constraints, not permanent official requirements, and the sources do not identify a supported phone model or minimum specification. Check the project’s current instructions before attempting setup.
