Fairphone 6+ vs. Google Pixel 9a: Repairability, Camera, and Performance Compared

Fairphone’s listed replacement modules make its repair-focused advantage concrete; Google documents a broad Pixel 9a camera feature set. Neither phone is proven faster or better at photos by the cited evidence.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Fairphone 6+—called the Fairphone Gen 6+ on the manufacturer’s product page—is the clearer choice if replaceable parts and modular repair are your priority. Google’s Pixel 9a has a documented set of computational photography features, including Night Sight and Macro Focus. But the available evidence does not establish that either phone takes better photos overall or is faster in a controlled head-to-head test.

The useful comparison is therefore not a simple spec-sheet winner. Fairphone publishes a parts catalog with prices for several replaceable modules, while Google’s specifications document Pixel camera features and identify its processor. Those sources answer different questions: one offers concrete evidence about parts, the other lists capabilities. Neither set of evidence fills in every ownership detail or supplies a controlled comparison of image quality or speed.

At a glance: what separates these phones?

Priority What the evidence supports
Repair and parts Fairphone lists separately replaceable modules and prices for several parts. The reviewed Google specifications do not include a Pixel 9a repair procedure or parts catalog.
Camera features Google documents Pixel 9a features including Night Sight, Macro Focus, Super Res Zoom up to 8x, and 4K video. Fairphone lists 50 MP main and 13 MP ultrawide rear cameras, plus a 32 MP front camera.
Processing hardware Google identifies the Pixel 9a’s processor as Tensor G4. The reviewed Fairphone product material provides no comparable benchmark.
Winner for photo quality or speed Not established: there is no same-scene camera test or directly comparable benchmark for these exact phones in the sources cited here.

These are different kinds of evidence. A manufacturer’s module catalog supports a practical case for repairability; listed camera specifications describe hardware and features, not image quality; and a processor name alone does not show which phone performs better under load.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That distinction matters when making a buying decision. A parts price is concrete, but it is not a complete repair quote. A camera feature list tells you that a mode is available, but not how consistently it performs compared with another phone. A chip name identifies hardware, but does not tell you whether one phone will feel faster in your own apps, games, or extended workloads. The fairest conclusion is specific: Fairphone has the clearer documented repair-parts proposition, Google lists a broad set of Pixel 9a camera features, and the available evidence does not settle a camera-quality or performance contest.

Which phone is more repairable?

Fairphone’s strongest documented advantage is its approach to repair. Its product page lists replacement parts individually, including the display, main and ultrawide cameras, selfie camera, USB-C port, and covers. That makes the option to replace a specific component more concrete than a general promise of longevity.

The listed prices shown on Fairphone’s page at the time covered by the source material include a display for €89.95, a main camera for €69.95, an ultrawide camera for €44.95, a selfie camera for €34.95, and a USB-C port for €19.95. These are displayed manufacturer prices, exclude shipping, and may change. Check the local catalog and current price before ordering.

Fairphone also gives estimates for industry-average repair-part prices based on official repair quotes from three flagship-brand competitors. Those are Fairphone’s estimates, not an independent universal average and not a Pixel 9a repair-cost comparison.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A parts list is useful, but it does not tell you how long a repair takes, how often repairs succeed, whether a module is in stock where you live, or what shipping and labor will cost. The reviewed Google specification page does not supply a Pixel 9a repair procedure or parts catalog, so these sources cannot support a quantified repairability score or a direct comparison of total repair costs.

What the Fairphone parts prices do—and do not—tell you

The listed module prices make it possible to see the manufacturer’s stated price for particular components rather than treating every repair as an unspecified service event. For example, someone investigating a damaged display can find a displayed price of €89.95 for that part; someone checking the USB-C port sees a listed €19.95 price. That is useful information for planning and comparison, especially when a user wants to understand whether a particular component is separately available.

It is not a prediction of what any individual repair will cost in full. Fairphone’s displayed prices exclude shipping, and the source does not establish labor charges, the cost of any tools or additional materials, local stock, or whether the listed part is currently available in every market. A component may have a listed price while the total outlay and time to get it installed still vary. Treat the prices as a starting point for checking the current local catalog, not as an all-in estimate or a guarantee of a repair outcome.

The figures also have a date and source context. The Fairphone page’s industry-average estimates are based on official repair quotes from three flagship-brand competitors, using quotes from July 2025. That makes them Fairphone’s comparison estimate for that sample and period. It does not turn them into an independent industry-wide average, nor does it show what repairing a Pixel 9a would cost. The available information does not provide a Pixel 9a part price to place beside the Fairphone figures, so it would be misleading to imply that a direct cost comparison has been completed.

A practical repairability checklist before you buy

If replaceability is a major reason you are considering the Fairphone, use the parts catalog as a prompt to verify the details that affect your situation. First, check that the part you might realistically need—such as the display, charging port, or a camera module—is listed in the current catalog for your country or market. Second, confirm the displayed price and whether the part is available now. Third, account for shipping and any labor or service arrangements that apply to you. Fairphone’s page lists modules and example displayed prices; local fulfillment details still need to be checked.

Fairphone Gen.6+ 12GB/256GB Modular Unlocked Android Phone - Horizon Black
  • Designed to Be Repaired, Not Replaced: The Fairphone Gen. 6+ is built around a 12-part modular design, so you can swap the battery, screen, speaker, or cameras yourself with just a screwdriver instead of replacing the whole phone. It's backed by a hardware warranty of up to five years and software support through 2033.

  • A Phone That Matches Your Values: The Fairphone contains 51% fair and recycled materials by total weight, is assembled using renewable energy, and supports living wages for factory workers. Robust everyday performance, without pretending the supply chain doesn't matter.
  • US Carrier Compatibility: This Android smartphone supports AT&T and T-Mobile, and supported MVNOs on those networks. It is not supported on Verizon or Verizon-network MVNOs. 5G speeds require a 5G-enabled SIM/eSIM and supporting data plan, and availability varies by carrier and location.

It is also worth being precise about what “repairable” means in your decision. Here, the strongest supported point is that Fairphone lists individual replacement modules and prices. That is evidence of a modular repair proposition. It is not evidence for a standardized repairability score, a guaranteed repair time, or an assurance that every owner can carry out every repair successfully. If you are comparing it with the Pixel 9a, the source gap matters: the material reviewed for Google is a hardware specification page, not a parts catalog or repair manual. The absence of repair information in that reviewed page is not proof that no repair options exist; it means these sources cannot measure them against Fairphone’s listed parts.

Camera hardware: megapixels are not a quality ranking

Camera detail Fairphone Gen 6+ Google Pixel 9a (2025)
Main rear camera 50 MP; digital zoom up to 10x, according to Fairphone 48 MP wide; Google lists Super Res Zoom up to 8x
Ultrawide rear camera 13 MP 13 MP
Front camera 32 MP Not stated in the cited Pixel specifications for this comparison
Documented camera features Specifications above are listed on Fairphone’s product page. Night Sight, Macro Focus, Super Res Zoom up to 8x, and 4K video are listed by Google.

The 50 MP versus 48 MP main-camera figures do not establish that the Fairphone takes better photos. Megapixel counts do not capture the full camera system or how images are processed. Likewise, the two zoom figures describe different named approaches—Fairphone lists digital zoom, while Google calls its feature Super Res Zoom—and are not directly comparable measures of image quality.

Google’s listed features show what the Pixel 9a offers, not that it wins every scene. Night Sight, Macro Focus, and 4K video are concrete capabilities, but the cited specifications do not compare output against Fairphone photos taken under matching conditions.

How to read the camera specifications

The numbers are useful for identifying what each manufacturer lists, not for predicting a universal winner. Fairphone’s product page gives a 50 MP main camera, a 13 MP ultrawide camera, and a 32 MP front camera. Google lists a 48 MP wide rear camera and a 13 MP ultrawide rear camera for the Pixel 9a. The two rear-camera lists therefore share a 13 MP ultrawide figure, while their listed main-camera resolutions are close. Neither observation says how photos will look in a particular setting.

Similarly, the zoom labels should not be treated as equivalent yardsticks. Fairphone lists digital zoom up to 10x, while Google lists Super Res Zoom up to 8x. The words describe different named approaches and the maximum figures alone do not establish how much useful detail a photo retains at any zoom level. In particular, a higher maximum number is not automatically a better result. The available evidence does not provide matching zoom samples or a common test protocol for these phones.

Google’s feature list is more informative about the kinds of modes it documents: Night Sight, Macro Focus, Super Res Zoom up to 8x, and 4K video. These are capabilities a buyer can consider if those modes are relevant, but a feature being listed does not settle how the phone compares with Fairphone in a specific low-light, close-up, zoom, or video scene. No same-scene, same-software-version test was found for the exact models in this comparison.

The same caution applies to the front camera. Fairphone lists a 32 MP front camera, while the cited Pixel specifications used for this comparison do not state a front-camera figure. That means the available evidence supports reporting the Fairphone number and noting the source limitation; it does not support treating the missing Pixel entry as evidence that the Pixel lacks a front camera or making a photo-quality comparison from the available numbers.

What reviewers say about the Fairphone camera

TechRadar’s reviewer described Fairphone’s image processing as light-touch and reported that digital zoom above 2x looked too grainy to use in their experience. That is a reviewer’s assessment of the Fairphone, not a controlled comparison with the Pixel 9a. Tom’s Guide also reviewed the Fairphone, but the evidence cited here does not establish a matched, same-scene test of both phones.

Fairphone (Gen. 6+) 12GB/256GB Modular Unlocked Android Phone - Cobalt Blue
  • Designed to Be Repaired, Not Replaced: The Fairphone Gen 6+ is built around a 12-part modular design, so you can swap the battery, screen, speaker, or cameras yourself with just a screwdriver instead of replacing the whole phone. It's backed by a hardware warranty of up to five years and software support through 2033.
  • Smooth Performance, Serious Durability: Powered by Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 and 12GB RAM, keeping apps fast and multitasking smooth. The 120Hz OLED display makes scrolling feel buttery, not choppy, and Gorilla Glass 7i plus IP55 splash-resistant means it can handle what your last phone couldn't. There's 256GB built in (expandable up to 2TB), so you're never trading photos for space.
  • Less Noise, More You: Fairphone Moments lets you switch between full Android and a distraction-free mode with up to five essential apps of your choice. Working, traveling, or spending time with the people who matter - you decide what shows up on your screen, and what stays out of reach.

Use those observations as a caution about the Fairphone’s zoom experience rather than as a universal verdict on all photos, or proof that the Pixel is better. If camera choice is decisive, look for direct samples or testing of these exact models under the conditions that matter to you—such as low light, close-ups, video, or zoom.

The qualifier “in their experience” is important. A reviewer’s judgment is useful evidence about one reviewer’s use and assessment, but it is not the same thing as a controlled test with both phones photographing the same scene under matched settings. The TechRadar observation specifically concerns Fairphone’s processing and the reviewer’s experience with digital zoom above 2x. It should not be stretched into a claim that every Fairphone photograph is grainy, that every zoom level is unusable, or that the Pixel 9a wins the camera comparison.

Tom’s Guide is another named review source in the available materials, but the available evidence does not supply a direct, matched comparison between the two phones from that review either. For a buyer, the practical takeaway is to separate three things: the manufacturer’s listed hardware, a reviewer’s reported experience, and a head-to-head result. The first two are available here; the third is not. If you depend on a particular use case, such as zooming beyond 2x or recording video, seek samples or testing that directly covers that use case on both exact models rather than inferring a result from one phone’s review.

Which phone is faster?

Google identifies the Pixel 9a’s processor as Tensor G4. The Fairphone product material reviewed for this comparison does not provide a benchmark result, and the cited sources contain no common benchmark, gaming frame-rate test, or sustained-load comparison for the two phones. There is therefore no evidence-based speed winner to name here.

A processor model is one specification, not a complete performance verdict. Without a test using both phones under comparable conditions, claims about which launches apps faster, handles games better, or maintains performance during extended use would go beyond the available evidence.

What can be said about performance—and what cannot

The Pixel 9a specification states that Google names Tensor G4 as its processor. It is reasonable to report that as a hardware fact. It is not enough to translate that fact into a measured comparison with the Fairphone Gen 6+. The reviewed sources give no directly comparable benchmark statistic for the two phones, and they supply no shared gaming test, frame-rate results, or sustained-load measurements.

That limitation rules out several tempting but unsupported shortcuts. There is no basis here for assigning a numerical performance lead, claiming one phone opens apps faster, predicting which will remain faster during a long gaming session, or describing one as the better choice for a particular workload on measured evidence. Even when the Pixel’s processor is named, the Fairphone side of a direct processor comparison is not accompanied by a benchmark result in these sources.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If speed is your deciding factor, look for an independent test that names both exact models and uses a comparable method. Check whether it measures the workload you care about rather than relying on a single score: a result from one benchmark would not automatically answer every question about everyday use or prolonged loads. Until that evidence is available, the responsible conclusion is not that the phones perform identically, but that the reviewed sources do not establish which is faster.

How to choose between them

Choose the Fairphone if repair options matter most

  • You value being able to buy listed replacement modules for specific components.
  • You are willing to check local parts availability, shipping, and repair arrangements rather than assume the displayed part price is the full repair cost.
  • You prefer a repair-focused product proposition over making a decision from camera megapixels alone.

In practical terms, Fairphone is the more straightforward fit if the ability to identify and price individual modules is central to your choice. Its catalog names parts such as the display, cameras, and USB-C port, with example prices displayed on the product page. That makes a more concrete starting point for investigating a potential component replacement. It does not remove the need to confirm whether that part is available where you live, what delivery adds, or what any repair labor will cost.

Keep the distinction between a repair-friendly design proposition and a completed repair experience in mind. The available sources do not supply success rates, repair times, local stock levels, or a standardized score. They support saying that Fairphone lists separately replaceable modules and prices; they do not support promising that every repair will be simple, immediate, or inexpensive in every market.

Choose the Pixel 9a if its documented camera features fit your needs

  • You want the listed Google features such as Night Sight, Macro Focus, Super Res Zoom up to 8x, and 4K video.
  • You prefer to weigh the Pixel’s specified Tensor G4 processor while recognizing that the cited material does not prove a speed advantage over the Fairphone.
  • You can verify current local pricing and availability for your market; the cited specifications do not establish those details.

Those points make the Pixel’s documented feature set relevant, not automatically decisive. A particular listed mode may matter to you, but the source does not compare its output with the Fairphone under the same conditions. Tensor G4 is a named specification, not proof of a measured speed lead. If either camera quality or speed is the reason to choose the Pixel, look for direct comparative testing rather than treating a manufacturer specification as the final verdict.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If your deciding factor is photo quality or performance

Do not treat the available specifications as a substitute for a head-to-head test. The sources cited here do not establish a camera-quality winner or benchmark winner for these exact models. Compare direct camera samples and independent tests of both phones, especially for the conditions and workloads you actually use.

For camera research, make sure the comparison involves both the Fairphone Gen 6+ and Pixel 9a, not a different Fairphone generation or another Pixel. Look for matched scenes and comparable settings, and pay attention to the types of photos or videos you personally take. A low-light still-photo comparison, for example, answers a different question from a close-up or zoom test; the evidence here does not contain all of those comparisons.

For performance, seek a comparable test of both models rather than combining a Pixel processor specification with a result from another phone. The available sources contain no benchmark score for this pair and no gaming frame-rate or sustained-load test. If a source does not identify the exact models and a common testing method, it cannot fill that gap reliably for this decision.

Check market and date before comparing costs

Price and availability are not fixed by the specifications discussed here. Fairphone’s displayed part prices are research-time figures, shipping is excluded, and the catalog may differ by market or change over time. The cited sources do not establish current retail purchase prices or availability for both phones. Verify your local information before using either device’s price as a deciding factor, and do not convert Fairphone’s competitor-based repair estimate into a Pixel 9a repair quote.

The source scope is deliberately narrow: the comparison concerns the specific Fairphone product marketed as Gen 6+ and Google Pixel 9a (2025). That matters because specifications, parts, and availability can differ among generations or regional configurations. Make sure a review or listing you consult is for the exact model you intend to buy.

Sources and scope

This comparison concerns the Fairphone product marketed on its page as the Fairphone Gen 6+ and the Google Pixel 9a (2025), not another Fairphone generation or Pixel model. Fairphone’s listed part prices and availability can vary by market and date; check its current catalog before acting. The Pixel hardware page covers multiple models, so consult its Pixel 9a (2025) section for the specifications discussed here.

This comparison combines manufacturer information with reviewer observations, and those evidence types should remain distinct. Fairphone’s page is the source for the Gen 6+ product specifications, listed modules, displayed prices, and its estimate of industry-average repair-part prices. Google’s hardware specifications page is the source for Pixel 9a details such as Tensor G4 and its listed camera capabilities. TechRadar’s and Tom’s Guide’s materials are reviews of the Fairphone; they do not create a controlled head-to-head test by themselves.

The dated repair estimate deserves particular care: Fairphone says its industry-average repair-part prices are estimates based on official repair quotes from three flagship-brand competitors, with the quoted competitor figures from July 2025. That is a company estimate based on a stated sample and date, not an independent universal benchmark. The listed Fairphone part prices are shown separately, shipping excluded, and should be checked again in the relevant market before a purchase or repair decision.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which phone is more repairable, the Fairphone Gen 6+ or Pixel 9a?

The Fairphone has the clearer documented repair-parts proposition in the sources reviewed: its product page lists separately replaceable modules and example prices. The Google specifications page reviewed here does not include a Pixel 9a repair procedure or parts catalog. That evidence supports a distinction in what the manufacturers document, not a standardized repairability score or a complete comparison of repair costs.

Is the Fairphone camera better than the Pixel 9a camera?

The available evidence does not establish an overall camera-quality winner. Fairphone lists 50 MP main and 13 MP ultrawide rear cameras; Google lists a 48 MP wide and 13 MP ultrawide rear camera, plus features including Night Sight, Macro Focus, Super Res Zoom up to 8x, and 4K video. Megapixel counts and feature lists do not substitute for a matched test of both phones.

Does the Pixel 9a have better zoom than the Fairphone?

The listed zoom specifications are not directly comparable measures of image quality. Fairphone lists digital zoom up to 10x, while Google lists Super Res Zoom up to 8x. TechRadar’s reviewer said Fairphone’s digital zoom above 2x looked too grainy to use in their experience, but that is not a controlled comparison with Pixel 9a zoom.

Which phone is faster?

The reviewed sources do not establish which is faster. Google identifies the Pixel 9a processor as Tensor G4, but there is no directly comparable benchmark, gaming frame-rate test, or sustained-load test for these exact phones in the cited sources.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What are the Fairphone Gen 6+ replacement-part prices?

Fairphone’s page displayed €89.95 for the display, €69.95 for the main camera, €44.95 for the ultrawide camera, €34.95 for the selfie camera, and €19.95 for the USB-C port at the time covered by the source material. Shipping is excluded, prices and availability can change, and the listed part price is not necessarily the full cost of a repair. Check Fairphone’s current local catalog before acting.

Does Fairphone’s repair-price estimate show what a Pixel 9a repair costs?

No. Fairphone describes industry-average repair-part prices as estimates based on official quotes from three flagship-brand competitors, with those quotes from July 2025. That estimate is Fairphone’s comparison, not a Pixel 9a repair quote or an independent universal average. The reviewed Google source did not provide a Pixel 9a repair cost.

The Bottom Line

Choose the Fairphone Gen 6+ if its listed, separately replaceable modules are your priority and you are prepared to check current local parts, shipping, and repair arrangements. Choose the Pixel 9a if Google’s documented camera features suit your needs. The evidence here does not prove which phone takes better photos or performs faster: megapixels, a feature list, and a processor name are not substitutes for a controlled head-to-head test.
