Facebook Reels can sometimes disappear from the app, fail to load, or stop appearing in your feed without warning. This usually happens because of a temporary app glitch, an outdated Facebook version, cache problems, weak internet, or account and region-related availability limits.
The good news is that most Reels issues can be fixed with a few quick checks. Start by confirming whether Reels is available for your account, then work through simple fixes like updating the app, clearing cache, restarting Facebook, checking your connection, and reviewing app settings.

Check Whether Facebook Reels Is Available for Your Account
Before changing settings or reinstalling the app, confirm that Facebook Reels is actually available for your account. Reels can disappear if Facebook has not enabled the feature in your region, if your account is too new, if certain account restrictions are active, or if the app is showing a limited layout during testing. In some cases, nothing is broken on your phone; the feature simply is not being served to your profile at that moment.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsOpen the Facebook app and look for Reels in more than one place. On many accounts, Reels appear as a tab in the main navigation bar, inside the Menu section, in the home feed between regular posts, or on video pages. You can also use the search bar and type Reels. If a Reels result appears, open it and check whether videos load normally. If Reels are missing from one location but visible somewhere else, the feature is available, and the issue may be a layout change rather than a malfunction.

Ways to confirm availability
- Check the Menu: Tap the three-line menu icon and look for Reels, Video, or Short videos.
- Use Facebook search: Search for “Reels” and open any official Reels destination or public Reel result.
- Compare with another account: If possible, sign in with a different Facebook account on the same device. If Reels appears there, the issue may be account-specific.
- Check another device: Log in on a different phone or tablet. If Reels appears on the second device, your original app installation or device settings may be the cause.
- Ask someone in your area: If nearby users also cannot see Reels, Facebook may be limiting the feature in your region or experiencing a temporary rollout issue.
Account status can also affect whether Reels appear. If your account has recent policy violations, unusual login activity, age-related limits, or incomplete profile verification, some content features may be reduced. Visit Settings & privacy, then check areas such as Account Status, Profile information, and Security and login. Resolve any prompts, verification requests, or restriction notices shown there. If you manage a Page, also check whether you are using Facebook as your personal profile or as the Page, since available tabs and creation tools can differ.
Regional availability is another common factor. Facebook features are not always released everywhere at the same time, and availability can change because of local rules, product testing, or account eligibility. If you recently moved, changed your phone region, started using a VPN, or created the account in a different country, Facebook may show a different feature set. Turn off any VPN temporarily, reopen Facebook, and make sure your device region and language settings match your current location. If Reels still does not appear after these checks, continue with app updates and cache troubleshooting, since a supported account can still fail to display Reels because of an outdated or stuck app session.
Update the Facebook App
If Facebook Reels is missing, blank, or stuck loading, an outdated app is one of the first things to fix. Reels features are updated frequently, and older versions of the Facebook app may not display the Reels tab, may fail to load short videos, or may show playback errors. Updating also installs bug fixes for crashes, layout problems, login issues, and feed glitches that can affect whether Reels appears.

Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →On iPhone, open the App Store, tap your profile icon in the top-right corner, then scroll to the available updates list. If you see Facebook, tap Update. You can also search for “Facebook” in the App Store and open the app page directly. If the button says Open instead of Update, your app is already on the latest available version for your device.
On Android, open the Google Play Store, tap your profile icon, then go to Manage apps and device. Under available updates, look for Facebook and tap Update. Alternatively, search for Facebook in the Play Store and update it from the app page. If you installed Facebook from another app store, such as the Samsung Galaxy Store, check that store as well so you are not running an older build.
After updating Facebook
- Close and reopen the app: Swipe Facebook away from your recent apps list, then launch it again.
- Restart your phone: A restart can clear temporary system issues that keep new app features from loading correctly.
- Check the menu and feed again: Open the Facebook app, tap the menu icon, and look for Reels. Also scroll through the Home feed to see whether Reels cards appear.
- Update your operating system: If your phone is running an old iOS or Android version, Facebook may not support every current feature. Install any pending system updates from your device settings.
If the update option does not appear, your device may already have the newest compatible version, or Facebook may no longer support the device’s operating system. In that case, Reels may work better in a mobile browser at facebook.com or on another phone or tablet with a newer system version. If Reels still does not show after updating, continue with cache clearing and app restart steps, since old stored data can keep the app behaving as if it has not been updated.

Clear Cache and Restart the App
If Facebook Reels is missing, stuck loading, or showing a blank space where videos should appear, the app’s temporary data may be the cause. Facebook stores cached files to make the app open faster, load images quickly, and remember recent activity. Over time, that cache can become outdated or corrupted, especially after app updates or network interruptions. Clearing it gives Facebook a fresh start without removing your account, posts, messages, or friends.
On Android, you can usually clear the Facebook cache directly from your phone settings. The exact labels vary by device, but the path is similar on most phones:
- Open Settings on your phone.
- Go to Apps or Apps & notifications.
- Select Facebook from the app list.
- Tap Storage or Storage & cache.
- Choose Clear cache.
- Reopen Facebook and check the Reels tab, your feed, or the video section again.
Avoid tapping Clear data or Clear storage unless you are comfortable signing back in and resetting some app preferences. Clearing cache is the safer first step because it removes temporary files only. If you do clear data by mistake, your Facebook account itself is not deleted, but you may need to log in again and re-enable certain settings.
On iPhone, iOS does not provide a simple one-tap cache clearing option for Facebook in the same way Android does. Start by force closing the app and reopening it. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause in the middle, or double-click the Home button on older iPhones, then swipe Facebook away. Open the app again and check whether Reels appears. You can also reduce cached website data inside Facebook by opening Menu, going to Settings & privacy, then Settings, and looking for browser or media-related settings, though available options may differ by app version.
After clearing cache or force closing the app, restart your phone. This helps end stuck background processes, refreshes memory, and reconnects the app cleanly to Facebook’s servers. Once the phone turns back on, open Facebook while connected to a stable network and wait a few moments for the feed, video tabs, and Reels shortcuts to reload. If Reels returns but disappears again later, the issue may be linked to storage space, a buggy app version, or an unstable connection rather than the cache alone.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Use Wi-Fi for the first reload: Reels can take longer to reappear on slow mobile data.
- Free up phone storage: Very low storage can stop apps from saving fresh temporary files properly.
- Close other heavy apps: This can improve performance if Facebook videos are freezing or not loading.
Check Your Internet Connection
If Facebook Reels are missing, stuck on a loading spinner, showing a black screen, or failing to refresh, your connection is one of the first things to test. Reels rely on a steady stream of short-form video data, so they can fail even when basic parts of Facebook, such as text posts or comments, still appear to work. A weak Wi-Fi signal, unstable mobile data, VPN routing, or network congestion can all make Reels look like they have disappeared from the app.

Start by switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data. If Reels do not load on Wi-Fi, turn Wi-Fi off and open Facebook using cellular data. If they work on mobile data, the issue is likely with your router, Wi-Fi signal, or internet provider. If Reels work on Wi-Fi but not on mobile data, check whether your phone has a strong 4G or 5G signal and whether Facebook is allowed to use mobile data in your device settings.
Quick connection checks
- Toggle Airplane Mode: Turn Airplane Mode on for 10 seconds, then turn it off to force your phone to reconnect to the network.
- Restart your router: If you are on Wi-Fi, unplug the router for about 30 seconds, then plug it back in and wait for the connection to stabilize.
- Move closer to the router: A weak Wi-Fi signal can load text but fail with videos, especially Reels.
- Disable VPN or proxy apps: Some VPN servers slow down video loading or route your traffic through locations where features behave differently.
- Test another app: Open YouTube, Instagram, or a browser video. If those also buffer or fail, the issue is probably your connection, not Facebook.
On iPhone, go to Settings, then Cellular, and make sure Facebook is allowed to use mobile data. On Android, open Settings, then Apps, choose Facebook, and check the app’s mobile data options. Look for settings such as Background data, Unrestricted data usage, or Data Saver. If Data Saver is enabled for Facebook, videos may load slowly or not appear as expected.
It is also worth checking whether your network blocks or limits social media video. This can happen on school, office, hotel, airport, or public Wi-Fi networks. If Facebook Reels appear when you switch to mobile data, the Wi-Fi network may be filtering video content or throttling high-bandwidth apps. In that case, use a different network or contact the network administrator if it is your own connection.

After changing networks or adjusting data settings, fully close the Facebook app and reopen it. Then go to the Reels tab, your feed, or a profile where Reels normally appear and pull down to refresh. If the connection is stable and the feature is available for your account, Reels should begin loading again without needing further changes.
Review App Permissions and Settings
If Facebook Reels is still not showing after updating the app, clearing cache, and checking your connection, review the permissions and in-app settings that can affect how video features load. Reels usually does not require every phone permission to appear, but restricted access, disabled background activity, data-saving options, or content preferences can interfere with playback, recommendations, uploads, and the Reels tab experience.
Check Facebook permissions on your phone
Start with your device settings and make sure Facebook has the access it needs to run normally. On Android, open Settings, go to Apps, choose Facebook, then tap Permissions. On iPhone, open Settings, scroll to Facebook, and review the permission toggles. For viewing Reels, network access is the most critical, but permissions such as Photos, Camera, and Microphone matter if you also want to create, upload, or remix Reels.

Also check whether your phone is limiting Facebook in the background. On Android, look under Battery or App battery usage and avoid setting Facebook to a heavily restricted mode. On iPhone, go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh and confirm Facebook is allowed if you want the app to refresh content more reliably. These settings may not directly hide Reels, but they can cause feeds, videos, and tabs to load inconsistently.

Next, open the Facebook app and check settings that affect video behavior. Tap Menu, open Settings & privacy, then go to Settings. Look for sections such as Media, Preferences, Feed, or Videos, depending on your app version. If Data Saver is enabled, Facebook may reduce video loading quality or delay autoplay, especially on slower connections. Try turning Data Saver off temporarily, then close and reopen the app.
| Setting to check | What to try |
|---|---|
| Data Saver | Turn it off and reload Facebook to see if Reels returns or videos load faster. |
| Autoplay | Allow autoplay on Wi-Fi or mobile data if Reels thumbnails load but videos do not play. |
| Feed preferences | Review hidden, snoozed, or reduced content choices that may affect recommendations. |
| Professional mode or creator tools | Check if Reels creation tools appear differently when using page, profile, or creator features. |
If you previously hid Reels, muted certain video recommendations, or adjusted feed preferences, Facebook may show fewer short-form videos in your feed. Interact with video posts you actually want to see, search for “Reels” inside Facebook, and check the Video tab if available. After changing permissions or settings, fully close Facebook and reopen it. If Reels still does not appear, the issue may be tied to the app installation, your device, or your account state, so the next step is to reinstall Facebook or test your account on another device.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Reinstall Facebook or Try Another Device
If Reels still are not showing after updating Facebook, clearing the cache, checking your connection, and reviewing settings, the next step is to remove the app and install it again. A reinstall replaces damaged app files, resets temporary data, and forces Facebook to download a fresh copy of its current features. This is especially useful when Reels disappeared after an app crash, a failed update, or a phone storage issue.
Before uninstalling, make sure you know your Facebook login details and have access to any two-factor authentication method connected to the account. Removing the app does not delete your Facebook account, posts, photos, messages, or friends, but you may need to sign in again. If you use Facebook Lite, consider testing the regular Facebook app as well, since some features may appear differently between versions.

Reinstall Facebook on iPhone or Android
- Uninstall the app: On iPhone, touch and hold the Facebook app icon, then choose Remove App. On Android, touch and hold the app icon and choose Uninstall, or remove it from the app settings screen.
- Restart your phone: Power the device off and back on to clear stuck background processes.
- Install Facebook again: Download it from the App Store or Google Play Store, not from a third-party website.
- Sign in and check Reels: Open Facebook, wait for the home feed to load, then look for Reels in the menu, video tab, feed, or search.
If Reels still do not appear after a fresh install, try opening Facebook on another device. Use a second phone, a tablet, or Facebook in a web browser if available. This helps separate account-related problems from device-related problems. For example, if Reels appear on another phone using the same account, the issue is likely tied to your original device, operating system, storage, or app installation. If Reels are missing everywhere, the limitation may be connected to your account, region, age settings, or Facebook’s current feature rollout.

What the test can tell you
| Result | What it suggests | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Reels work on another device | Your main phone may have a device, system, or app issue | Update the phone system, free storage, then reinstall Facebook again |
| Reels are missing on every device | Your account or region may not currently have access | Wait for rollout changes or contact Facebook support through Help & Support |
| Reels load on Wi-Fi but not mobile data | Data settings or carrier connection may be blocking media | Check data saver, mobile data permissions, and carrier restrictions |
Also check that your phone has enough free storage and is running a supported operating system version. Older devices may open Facebook normally but struggle to display newer video features such as Reels. If nothing changes after reinstalling and testing another device, the issue is likely not something you can fully fix from the app itself. In that case, use Facebook’s Report a Problem option, include your device model, app version, and screenshots if possible, then check again later after the next app update.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why are Facebook Reels not showing on my account?
Facebook Reels may be missing because the feature is not available for your account, region, or app version yet. It can also disappear temporarily due to app glitches, cache problems, weak internet, or account-related restrictions. Start by updating the app, restarting it, and checking whether Reels appears on another device.
How do I get the Reels tab back on Facebook?
Update Facebook from the App Store or Google Play Store, then fully close and reopen the app. If the Reels tab still does not appear, clear the app cache on Android or reinstall the app on iPhone. You can also check the Menu section, because Facebook sometimes moves Reels instead of showing it on the main navigation bar.
Can clearing the Facebook cache fix Reels not loading?
Yes, clearing the cache can fix Reels that are stuck, blank, or not loading properly. On Android, go to your phone settings, open Apps, select Facebook, and clear the cache. On iPhone, the simplest option is usually to delete and reinstall Facebook, since iOS does not offer the same cache-clearing control for most apps.
Do Facebook Reels need a strong internet connection?
Yes, Reels need a stable connection because they are short videos that load continuously as you scroll. If Reels are buffering, showing a black screen, or failing to refresh, switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data to test the connection. Also disable VPNs or data-saving modes temporarily, since they can slow down or block video loading.
What should I do if Reels work on another phone but not mine?
If Reels work on another device, the problem is likely with your app, phone settings, or local device storage. Update Facebook, restart your phone, check that Facebook has permission to use mobile data, and make sure your device has enough free storage. If none of that works, reinstall Facebook and sign in again.
Bottom Line
If Facebook Reels are not showing, the fix is usually simple: update the app, restart your phone, clear the cache, check your internet connection, and make sure Reels are available for your account and region. These steps solve most cases where Reels are missing, not loading, or disappearing from the app.
If nothing changes, try logging out and back in, reinstalling Facebook, or checking from another device to confirm whether the issue is account-specific. If Reels still will not appear, wait for a server-side fix or contact Facebook support for help.
