Facebook’s privacy, payment, and security controls live in different places. Start with Settings & privacy to review who can see or find you, use Accounts Center for settings shared across linked Meta accounts, and check product-specific controls for saved payment details and subscriptions. The exact labels and paths can vary by device, app version, profile type, and region, so follow the current options shown in your account.
How do I change my Facebook privacy settings?
Open Settings & privacy and look for Audience and visibility. Facebook groups controls there for profile details, who can find and contact you, posts, stories, pages, reels, followers and public content, profile and tagging, and blocking. The available options can depend on your profile and account context. Facebook’s privacy settings guide also points to Privacy Checkup, which offers a guided way to review sharing choices.

For an individual post or other share, check its audience selector before publishing. Changing a general setting does not necessarily change the audience of every item you have already shared; inspect the audience on the item itself.
Know what remains public
Your current profile photo and cover photo are public. Older profile and cover photos may have separate audience settings. Adjusting post visibility therefore does not make every part of your profile private. Facebook explains these distinctions in its privacy troubleshooting guidance.

Who can see my Facebook posts?
The audience selected for a post determines its intended visibility. Review the selector when you create or update a post rather than assuming that a change to a general setting has altered older posts. Also check stories and other content types separately: Facebook lists them as distinct controls under Audience and visibility.
If you want a guided review, use Privacy Checkup from Facebook’s privacy settings area. It can help you inspect sharing choices, but you should still check individual content whose audience matters to you.

How do I stop my Facebook profile from appearing in search engines?
In the privacy controls, find the setting for whether external search engines may link to your profile and turn it off if that option is available. This changes Facebook’s setting for future linking; it does not erase a result already indexed or cached by a search engine. Existing listings may remain until that provider refreshes its index. For an immediate removal request, use the search engine’s own support process; Facebook cannot clear a third-party search cache for it.
What does Accounts Center control?
Accounts Center brings together connected experiences and settings for eligible Meta accounts, including contact information, advertising preferences, and payments. You can review which accounts are linked and which connected-experience controls are available to you. Meta says information from connected accounts may be used to personalize experiences such as ads and account suggestions, so linking accounts can affect how settings and personalization work across services.

Availability is not uniform. For example, Meta’s help page notes that WhatsApp in Accounts Center is not available everywhere, including South Korea. Do not assume that every Meta service or payment setting is managed there, or that linked services operate entirely independently.
How do I manage my payment information on Facebook?
There is not one payment screen that governs every Facebook or Meta product. Identify where the information is saved before changing or removing it:
Rank #4
| Where the information is used | What to check | Scope |
|---|---|---|
| Accounts Center | Review payment controls available for the accounts connected in Accounts Center. | Settings for connected Meta accounts; available options may vary. |
| Facebook in-app browser | Open the in-app browser settings to clear browsing data or change autofill and saved contact or payment information. | Clearing data applies to the Facebook in-app browser, not every browser or payment context. |
| Meta Verified subscription | Use the relevant Meta Verified creator billing and payment help. | Subscription billing is product-specific. |
Payment methods, fees, protections, and availability can vary by country, account, and product; there is no single current list that applies universally. Check the payment controls and official help available in your account and region. For linked accounts, rely on the disclosures in Meta’s applicable settings and policies rather than assuming how payment data is shared.

Review your password and security controls, enable login alerts if useful, and consider two-factor authentication. Facebook describes login alerts and two-factor authentication as account security features in its Account Security help.

Should you use a security key?
A physical security key is an optional two-factor authentication method, not a required Facebook accessory or a guarantee against account takeover. Facebook’s security-key instructions describe U2F or FIDO2 keys and connection options including USB, Lightning, Bluetooth, and NFC. Compatibility depends on the device and browser you use to sign in, so check both before buying. If you choose a key, plan a recovery method in case it is lost.
If you want to use a security key for Facebook two-factor authentication, compare FIDO2 security keys and check compatibility with your phone or computer and browser before purchasing.
What does Meta’s U.S. privacy notice cover?
Meta’s United States Regional Privacy Notice, effective May 23, 2025, describes U.S.-scoped information collection, use, disclosure, retention, and rights under applicable U.S. privacy laws. It supplements other Meta product and privacy policies, describes routes for certain targeted-ad opt-outs through Ad Preferences or Accounts Center, and explains that rights and exceptions depend on where a person lives. It is not a worldwide statement of legal rights; readers outside the United States should consult the notice applicable to their location.
