There is no single safe “Exim 4.100.1 remediation” command without knowing your operating system, Exim package and build, and the security advisory or CVE you are addressing. The Exim homepage identifies 4.100 as the current version, while the project’s official FTP directory lists 4.100.1 archives dated 14 September 2026. Those statements do not establish that 4.100.1 is the currently supported release for your system, or that it fixes a particular vulnerability. Confirm the status with the Exim project and your operating-system vendor before deployment.
First establish what needs remediation
This guide provides a safe release-validation and update workflow, not a CVE-specific fix. The title supplies no advisory, target distribution, or installed build, so it is not possible to identify affected versions, fixed package versions, exploit prerequisites, or a tested mitigation. Do not assume every Exim 4.100 installation is vulnerable, or that installing 4.100.1 resolves a particular security issue.

Record the system and advisory
Before choosing an update, record the operating system and release, the installed Exim package name and version, Exim build details, the source of the active configuration, and whether the service or input path described in the advisory is present in your deployment. Obtain the advisory or CVE that prompted the work, then compare its affected and fixed-version information with your actual package and build.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →A package version string alone may not tell the whole story: distribution vendors can backport fixes without adopting an upstream version number. Check the platform vendor’s security advisory and package changelog for the exact release you run. Exim’s download guidance distinguishes upstream source archives from distribution packages and notes that maintenance tarballs are normally published only when changes are critical.

Resolve the 4.100.1 status discrepancy
The Exim project homepage says 4.100 is current and versions before 4.100 are obsolete. Separately, the official FTP directory lists source and documentation archives for 4.100.1, dated 14 September 2026. The homepage statement and FTP listing are not equivalent confirmation that 4.100.1 is the current supported release for every platform. Check the project’s current release information and your vendor’s support status before using that archive.
Choose the supported update path
| Update path | What to verify | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Operating-system vendor package | Use the vendor advisory and changelog to confirm that the package for your OS release contains the relevant fix. Follow the vendor’s normal package manager and maintenance process; exact package names and commands vary by distribution. | Managed systems where the vendor provides and supports Exim packages. |
| Upstream source archive | Confirm the exact change applies to your build and configuration, and that the release is appropriate for your system. Authenticate the archive using the project’s signature guidance before building or installing it. | Systems deliberately maintained from upstream source, with an operator able to assess build, configuration, and service impact. |
Do not select a path just because its displayed version number looks newer. Compare advisory coverage, provenance, support status, configuration compatibility, and the rollback procedure. If building from source, use the instructions appropriate to that exact release and build, and plan service impact with your normal operations process.

Prepare and install the change safely
- Check scope: Match the advisory’s affected and fixed builds to the installed package or binary, and determine whether the affected service or input path applies to your deployment.
- Authenticate upstream downloads: Exim says published tarballs have OpenPGP signatures made with developer keys and recommends cross-checking those keys against other sources; release tags are also signed. Obtain the archive and signature from an official release source, validate the signature against a trusted maintainer key, and retain the artifact and verification record with the change. A checksum downloaded from the same potentially compromised location as the archive is not sufficient as the only authenticity check.
- Review local configuration and build choices: Compare the existing configuration and build options with the chosen package or source instructions. Do not copy a generic workaround or configuration change into production without confirming that it applies to the specific version and does not conflict with local policy.
- Stage and preserve rollback: Where possible, test on a representative staging system. Capture the existing package or build identity and configuration, follow your platform’s supported update procedure, and ensure the operator can restore the previously approved state if service or queue handling regresses.
- Validate configuration before normal service resumes: If the change affects runtime configuration, check it using the method appropriate to your build. Exim’s runtime-configuration documentation says a detected syntax error is written to standard error, causes a nonzero exit, and is also recorded in the panic log. Treat that result as a failed change; do not reopen normal service until the configuration is corrected and validated.
Verify the binary, routing and mail flow
Run these checks using the Exim binary and operating procedures for your installation. Commands are shown without a distribution-specific service restart or package command, because those vary by platform and local build.

exim -btwith representative local and remote addresses to test how the configured system routes them. - Send a controlled test message: Where safe, test the normal local and outbound paths. Confirm the expected queue handling and delivery, then check for corresponding arrival and completion events in the logs.
- Review operational logs and behavior: Inspect Exim’s

Log locations and restart procedures vary across installations. - Match the result to the advisory: Verify separately that the installed vendor package or build is identified as fixed by the relevant advisory. Successful routing and message delivery demonstrate basic mail-flow behavior; they do not prove that a particular vulnerability has been fixed.
What to do about workarounds
No vulnerability-specific workaround is established here because no CVE or advisory is named. There is no basis to recommend a particular ACL rule, disable a feature, block a port, or treat a configuration tweak as equivalent to a software fix. Once you have the relevant advisory, use only its documented temporary mitigations, confirm their scope and operational cost for your deployment, and distinguish mitigation from installing a fixed package or build. If the advisory provides no safe workaround, prioritize the supported update path rather than improvising one.
