Nocturne is Apple TV’s upcoming 10-episode crime thriller, adapted from Lars Kepler’s novel The Sandman. Apple has announced a premiere on Friday, October 30, 2026, with the first two episodes, and new episodes each Friday through December 25, 2026. The series centers on a homicide detective, a serial killer and an FBI agent, and it is the show behind the headline “Everyone loves a good murder board.”
What the headline refers to
The line comes from a headline by Andrew Webster dated September 29, 2026, which introduces Nocturne as a forthcoming Apple TV crime thriller. The headline itself does not explain the phrase. In police work and in crime fiction, a “murder board” is the wall of photographs, maps, timelines and handwritten notes that investigators use to connect the pieces of a case. Read that way, the headline is pointing at the genre’s appeal: a show built around detectives piecing together a killer’s movements. Whether the series uses a literal murder board on screen is not something the available coverage confirms.

The premise
Apple describes Nocturne as a crime drama that follows Jonah Lynn, an ex-soldier who becomes a homicide detective. He moves from Philadelphia to a small town in western Pennsylvania. The town becomes the target of Jurek Walter, a serial killer, who threatens both the community and Jonah’s family.
The investigation draws in FBI agent Saga Bauer, who is Jonah’s surrogate daughter. Her role in the story is the search for Walter’s last missing victim.
