What is End of Abyss?
You play as Cel, a combat technician investigating disturbances inside an abandoned underground complex. The official store descriptions center on fighting monstrous creatures, improving equipment, and using tools and a scanner to uncover branching or hidden routes.
Developer Section 9 Interactive is a Malmö-based studio founded by three former Tarsier Studios members. Xbox Wire names Mattias Ottval, Marcus Ottval, and Gustaf Heinerwall as co-founders. Section 9 made End of Abyss; Epic Games Publishing published it. The founders’ Tarsier background offers context for the team, but Tarsier Studios did not develop or publish this game.

How does the gameplay work?
The core loop pairs top-down, twin-stick shooting with exploration. You fight through rooms, collect resources, improve your equipment, and return to routes that were previously blocked. The scanner helps reveal information on the map, while tools and keys provide ways through locked passages and branching areas.
Xbox Wire’s June 19, 2026 hands-on report describes a recharging pistol, a limited-ammo shotgun, flares and grenades, healing connected to save pods, and crafting stations for ammunition, equipment, and permanent upgrades. It also reports shortcuts and backtracking. Those details come from a pre-release demo, not a post-launch review, so they describe the reported hands-on build rather than guaranteeing every mechanic’s final implementation.

What is the horror atmosphere like?
The setting is a dark industrial complex, and the official descriptions emphasize isolation, hostile creatures, and exploration. Discussing the atmosphere with Xbox Wire, co-founder Mattias Ottval said: “We like the same kind of things, and it’s very much the things we grew up with, like the Alien movies, ‘The Thing.’ Those types of movies are very fond to us, and I think that’s the main inspiration for the atmosphere.”
What should PS5 players know before buying?
- Subtitles: The PlayStation listing says subtitles cover the main story and main characters; it does not describe them as covering all game content.

The reviewer reports spending 18 hours exploring with a PS5 code from the publisher; that is an account of one playthrough, not an expected completion time.
