The sources available do not substantiate a Steam release, a Steam Deck compatibility rating, or an official SteamOS crash remedy. If you own the game through Epic and are trying to run it on a Deck, that is a different setup from a supported Windows PC, and the listing does not establish how a third-party launcher or compatibility layer will behave there.
What the October update does—and does not—fix
MP1st reports that an October 2, 2026 update fixed a possible freeze that could occur when Cel was revived with the Defibrillator mod while still taking damage. If your freeze happens in that specific Defibrillator-mod situation, check whether the update is installed and whether the symptom matches the report. It is not evidence that the update resolves launch failures, general crashes, or other freezes on Steam Deck.
How to narrow down a Deck crash without guessing
Because there is no established game-specific Deck procedure, start by recording the details that distinguish a crash from a freeze or a Windows-PC problem:

- Where you own the game and how you launch it: for example, a Steam library entry or the Epic Games Store.
- When the problem occurs: at launch, during a particular scene, after a period of play, or only in the reported Defibrillator-mod situation.
- The exact error text, if any, and whether the game closes, hangs, or returns to the launcher.
- Your SteamOS version and, if you use a compatibility layer or third-party launcher, its current configuration.
- Whether the October 2 update is installed, if it is available through your copy of the game.
These details can help the publisher or support staff identify the relevant environment. They are diagnostic questions, not a tested sequence of fixes. The available evidence does not support promising that changing Proton versions, adding launch arguments, lowering graphics settings, or buying Deck accessories will stop this game from crashing.

If the crash is on a Windows PC
A Windows crash is a separate troubleshooting case from running the game on SteamOS. Use the developer’s current support instructions and the latest official game update information for that Windows installation rather than applying unverified Deck-specific advice. Xbox Wire described End of Abyss as an action-adventure about Cel exploring a derelict underground facility and announced its Xbox Series X|S launch for October 1, 2026; that launch coverage is context, not PC or Deck troubleshooting guidance.
