You can turn off X’s documented training-and-fine-tuning data sharing in a few clicks. In X, open Settings and privacy → Privacy & Safety → Data sharing and personalization → Grok & Third-party Collaborators. Under Data Sharing, disable the option that allows public X data and your interactions, inputs, and results from Grok to be used to train and fine-tune models. X’s wording covers categories of public data—not necessarily every post individually. The labels may move as X updates its apps and website.
What the X opt-out controls
X says it may share public X data with xAI for Grok training and fine-tuning. The described data includes public posts and their metadata, public Spaces, public profile information, and your interactions with Grok on X. The training control is an opt-out: X says you can continue using Grok after disabling it.
That setting is different from personalization. X separately describes sharing public profile details, posts, engagement, interests, and Grok interactions to personalize your experience. Turning off training does not automatically turn off every personalization use.

How to turn off Grok training on X
- Open X and go to Settings and privacy.
- Select Privacy & Safety.
- Open Data sharing and personalization.
- Choose Grok & Third-party Collaborators.
- In Data Sharing, turn off the option allowing public data and Grok interactions, inputs, and results to be used for training and fine-tuning.
On iOS and Android, X’s general guide places related controls under Profile photo → Settings and privacy → Privacy and safety → Personalization and data. The Grok-specific labels above are the more direct route. On desktop, X says settings changed while logged in apply to the account across devices. Optional privacy controls to change at the same time
Disable Grok personalization
In the same general settings area, find Grok Personalization and turn off Allow X to personalize your experience with Grok. This addresses personalization, not just model training.

Delete your Grok conversation history
To remove existing chats from X’s conversation-history system, go to Privacy & Safety → Data sharing and personalization → Grok → Delete Conversation History. X says deleted conversations are removed within 30 days, except when security or legal obligations require retention. This is a separate control from the training opt-out.
Protect your posts
Protecting posts is a broader audience decision. X says protected posts are not used to train underlying Grok and xAI models or surfaced in response to user queries. They are visible only to approved followers, whereas public posts are visible to anyone. Follow X’s instructions for protecting posts; visibility details are explained in Who can see your posts.

What opting out does—and does not—promise

X also says that submitting thumbs-up or thumbs-down feedback may allow the conversation and related data to be used for training even after you opt out. Avoid sending feedback on a conversation if you do not want to create that additional use case.
None of these help pages promises removal of information already incorporated into a trained model. The documented controls govern future sharing and specified stored data, not guaranteed retroactive unlearning.

Choosing the right setting
- Want to keep posts public but stop the documented training use? Turn off Data Sharing.
- Also do not want Grok-tailored recommendations or responses? Turn off Grok Personalization separately.
- Concerned about old chats? Use Delete Conversation History.
- Want the strongest restriction on post-based use? Protect your posts, understanding that only followers will see them.
