Elgato’s Wave Go is a compact wireless microphone kit aimed at creators recording on USB-C phones and computers. Its distinguishing idea is physical flexibility: use the 7-gram transmitter as a clip-on lavalier-style mic, or mount it on the included Smart Handle and use it as a handheld microphone. It is a workflow-focused alternative to compact DJI systems, not a proven performance winner.
What the Wave Go kit includes

With the transmitter clipped to clothing, the setup is hands-free for walk-and-talk videos, interviews and demonstrations. Placing the transmitter on the Smart Handle changes the same kit into a small handheld microphone, which can be more natural for street interviews or presenter-style segments.
How Wave Go connects and records
USB-C devices only
Elgato positions Wave Go for USB-C phones and computers. It is not designed for direct connection to DSLR or mirrorless cameras, and older iPhones with Lightning ports are unsupported. Check the recording device’s port before buying; a camera-based workflow may require a different microphone system.

A dedicated 2.4 GHz link, not Bluetooth audio
The transmitter sends audio to the USB-C receiver over a dedicated 2.4 GHz wireless connection. Bluetooth is used for companion-app functions, not as the recording link. Elgato lists an approximately 30 m (100 ft) range and latency of no more than 24 ms. Those are manufacturer specifications rather than independent measurements, and real range depends on obstructions and radio congestion.
No transmitter backup recording
Wave Go sends audio directly to the connected phone or computer and has no onboard backup recorder in the transmitter. If the receiver disconnects or the recording device stops, there is no local file to recover from the transmitter. Creators who routinely record important events should treat this as a central buying consideration.

Elgato says the transmitter can recharge while attached to the Smart Handle, and the carrying case charges both components. The two handle-runtime figures conflict on the product page, so buyers should confirm the current specification before relying on either number for a production schedule.
Software and device requirements
- Elgato’s mobile app requires Android 8.0 or newer.
- On Apple devices, the stated requirement is iOS 17 or iPadOS 17 or newer; the app is marked as “In review with Apple” on the referenced product information.
- Wave Link requires Windows 11 or newer or macOS 15 or newer.
App approval and operating-system requirements can change, particularly on iOS, so verify the current app-store status and compatibility immediately before purchase.

How it compares with compact DJI microphones
The exact DJI model implied by the headline is not established. DJI Mic Mini is a reasonable representative compact comparison, but it should not be treated as the identified product or as a tested winner over Wave Go.

DJI describes Mic Mini as ultralight and lists two-level active noise cancelling, stable transmission, OsmoAudio direct connection, case-based operation and automatic limiting to reduce clipping. These are DJI’s published feature claims, not results from a controlled comparison with Wave Go.

Do not mix DJI Mic and Mic Mini figures
DJI’s separate DJI Mic product page gives category context for configurations with one transmitter and one receiver or two transmitters with a receiver and case. That page lists up to 250 m of range, up to 15 hours of battery operation and up to 14 hours of onboard recording. Those figures belong to the DJI Mic page and must not be assigned to Mic Mini without confirmation. They also are not directly comparable to Wave Go’s approximately 30 m range and eight-hour transmitter figure because the products and test conditions are different.

Which workflow fits which creator?
Choose Wave Go when USB-C simplicity matters
Wave Go suits a creator who records primarily on a USB-C phone or computer, wants one transmitter that can be worn or held, and values a receiver-and-case kit without a separate camera connection. The included Smart Handle is especially useful if the same microphone must cover both solo narration and quick interviews.

Look beyond Wave Go when local backup is essential
If a recording cannot be repeated, prioritize a system whose exact model documentation confirms onboard transmitter recording. Wave Go’s direct-to-device design leaves the connected phone or computer as the sole recording location.
Verify compatibility before choosing a DJI bundle
DJI offers several model and bundle combinations. Check whether the receiver connects directly to the reader’s phone, whether a camera adapter is included or required, how many transmitters are supplied, and whether the chosen model has internal recording. “DJI microphone” is not specific enough to answer those questions.
Practical setup checklist
- Confirm the phone or computer has a compatible USB-C connection and meets the current operating-system requirements.
- Charge the case, transmitter and Smart Handle; the transmitter can also recharge through the handle.
- For clip-on use, attach the magnetic plate or clip securely and fit a furry windscreen outdoors.
- For handheld use, mount the transmitter on the Smart Handle and keep the receiver connected to the recording device.
- Open the recording app and make a short test clip before filming, checking input selection, clothing noise and radio range.
- Keep the phone or computer within the practical range of the receiver, especially around walls or other 2.4 GHz equipment.
What the published evidence does—and does not—show
Elgato provides an on-page audio demonstration, but it is a vendor comparison rather than independent testing. Its samples should not be turned into a general claim that Wave Go sounds better than a DJI microphone. The available product pages establish features, connections and manufacturer specifications; they do not establish controlled audio quality, reliability or a universal winner.
