The Edifier HECATE G5 MAX is a versatile wireless gaming headset with Bluetooth, two 2.4 GHz receiver options and USB wired audio. In Tom’s Guide’s August 2026 review, it earned praise for comfort, immersive game sound and battery endurance, but its microphones disappointed the reviewer. Its desktop THX Spatial Audio feature is also Windows-only, so the headset’s broad device compatibility does not mean every feature works everywhere.
What the G5 MAX offers
Edifier lists a 53 mm PEN diaphragm dynamic driver, a detachable boom microphone and two built-in microphones. The listed frequency response is 20 Hz–40 kHz, impedance is 64 Ω and weight is 305 g. The headset also supports THX Spatial Audio, Hi-Res Audio certification and LHDC 5.0, according to Edifier’s US product page.

The G5 MAX can connect over Bluetooth 6.0, 2.4 GHz wireless through either a USB-A or USB-C receiver, or a USB cable. Edifier lists PC, Mac, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and mobile devices as compatible, while noting that compatibility depends on device and connection mode. The box includes the headset, USB cable, combined USB-A/USB-C 2.4 GHz dongle and user manual.

Tom’s Guide reviewer Nikita Achanta tested console use on a PS5 Slim with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and tested spatial audio on a Windows Alienware laptop with Cyberpunk 2077. Achanta described detailed, immersive game audio and comfortable earcups during a six-hour wear period. Those are one reviewer’s observations; fit and comfort can vary by wearer.

The same review found both the built-in and boom microphone performance underwhelming. That matters if you rely on the headset for frequent voice chat, meetings or streaming: the detachable boom gives you a mic positioned near your mouth, but the review does not support buying the G5 MAX specifically for microphone quality. Battery life: impressive claims, not a guarantee
Edifier lists up to 305 hours in Bluetooth mode on its US product page, but that page does not state the test conditions. HECATE’s product page attributes figures to EDIFIER Lab: up to 305 hours over Bluetooth and 227 hours over 2.4 GHz, tested at 50% volume with lighting off. These are manufacturer estimates, not independent measurements or guaranteed results in everyday use. Higher volume, lighting and usage patterns can affect how long a charge lasts.

For context, the HECATE G5 MAX page describes four connection modes: USB-C 2.4 GHz, USB-A 2.4 GHz, Bluetooth 6.0 and wired. Its battery figures apply to the stated wireless modes and lab conditions, not to every possible use pattern.

Platform compatibility and the Mac limitation
Basic headset compatibility with a Mac is not the same as access to all desktop software features. Tom’s Guide reports that HECATE Driver Software has no macOS version and that THX Spatial Audio is Windows-only. A Mac user should therefore treat the G5 MAX as a headset with connection options, not as a way to get the reviewed Windows spatial-audio setup.

For PlayStation and Switch, Edifier and HECATE list compatibility, but connection behavior depends on the console and mode. The review’s PS5 testing supports a positive account of general console audio; it does not establish that the Windows desktop software or every feature works on consoles. Check the connection requirements for your exact device before relying on a particular receiver or feature.

A July 1, 2026 launch announcement hosted by THX gave the US MSRP as $149.99 and named Amazon.com and Edifier’s official online store as US sales channels. The G5 MAX is most compelling for players who value multiple connection choices, long manufacturer-rated battery life and the comfort and immersive game sound praised in one independent review. It is a less convincing fit if microphone quality is your priority, or if you use macOS and specifically want the desktop THX Spatial Audio feature. Consider those trade-offs alongside the current price rather than treating platform compatibility or headline battery hours as a complete measure of value.
