EchoPort: A Localhost Port Scanner for Tracking Development Servers

EchoPort is a local port-scanning utility with default, common, and full-range modes for finding development services responding on localhost.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

EchoPort is a local utility described by its author as a way to see which development services are responding on localhost, without maintaining a port list or configuration file. It offers three scan scopes—from a short set of common development ports to the full port range—and can refresh automatically. The available description is the author’s account, not an independent test, and it does not establish a current release or supported-platform matrix.

What EchoPort does

When several projects are running at once, remembering whether a development server is on 3000, 5173, 8080, or somewhere else can become a nuisance. EchoPort scans localhost and displays services it finds responding. Its author, Breno Alvim, describes the goal as showing “what’s alive right now” without a manually maintained port list.

“Real-time” here is best understood as scanning with an optional auto-refresh setting, rather than a claim of continuous monitoring. The description does not provide measured scan times, accuracy figures, or independent verification of the results.

EchoPort’s scan modes

The author describes three scopes. The port counts and examples below are product descriptions, not independent measurements:

Xiiaozet LK300EW Wireless USB Device Server, 3-Port USB2.0 Sharing
  • Multi-Function Device: Serves as both a USB server and print server, enabling multiple computers on the same network to share USB devices, such as printers, scanners, or storage devices, eliminates direct computer-to-device cabling
  • Compatible with Printers: Converts USB printers into wireless printers. Added printers via using an IP address or hostname, supports RAW and IPP printing protocols. Compatible with printers from HP, Canon, Epson, and others. Can also connect printers using virtual USB connect software. Note: Mobile printing and AirPrint are not supported.
  • Compatible with USB Devices: Integrates software and hardware to wirelessly connect USB devices like printers, scanners, and dongles; our virtual USB software simulates a direct USB connection, just like physically plugging the device into the computer.
  • Network Connection Options: Flexible deployment via 2.4GHz Wi-Fi or Ethernet port; maintains stable connectivity for devices located anywhere within Local network coverage areas, whether at home or in a small office.
  • Multi-system compatibility: Works with Windows, Linux, and macOS through lightweight client software; Please refer to user guide before use, and our dedicated tech support team is available to assist you with any setup or usage queries.
Mode Scope described by the author When it may help
Default Eight essential ports, including 3000, 5173, and 8080 A quick check of familiar development-server ports
Common Around 50 ports and variations, with examples for React, Vite, Django, Rails, and Storybook A broader sweep of ports commonly used by development tools and frameworks
All The full 65,535-port range A broad search when the service’s port is unknown

A broader sweep checks more possible ports, but the description does not report how long each mode takes or how comprehensively EchoPort identifies the software behind a responding port.

Windows-service false positives

Alvim notes that some Windows services can respond to HTTP requests and therefore appear in a full scan even though they are not development servers. The article names SSDP, WSDAPI, WinRM, and Delivery Optimization as cases EchoPort filters by default. It also says users can manually add a filtered item back.

Xiiaozet LK301E Gigabit USB3.0 Device Server, 3-Port USB Hub
  • UPGRADED SECURITY & FIRMWARE SUPPORT: New LK301E comes with an updated firmware version, with security improvements optimized through firmware enhancements to ensure stable and secure operation for office use.
  • LAN USB DEVICE SHARING: Easily share up to 3 USB 3.0 devices over your Local Area Network via a stable wired Ethernet connection. With the Xiiaozet Virtual USB Tool, connected peripherals can be accessed by any computer within the same LAN as if they were locally connected. Note: Works only within the same subnet; not supported over VPN or the internet.
  • GIGABIT NETWORK & USB 3.0 PERFORMANCE: Built with a high-performance 880MHz Dual-Core CPU and 4Gbit DDR RAM to ensure smooth, low-latency USB over IP transmission. Combined with a Gigabit Ethernet port and USB 3.1 Gen 1 support (up to 5Gbps), it delivers reliable performance for data-intensive tasks such as scanning and large file transfers.
  • EXCLUSIVE ONE-TO-ONE CONNECTION: Features a secure single-user access system to ensure data integrity and stable performance. While devices are visible to multiple users on the network, only one computer can connect and control a specific device at a time, preventing data conflicts. Ideal for sensitive hardware like license dongles and security keys.
  • WIDE COMPATIBILITY WITH CLEAR LIMITATIONS: Supports standard USB peripherals including printers, scanners, flash drives, and software dongles. Backward compatible with USB 2.0/1.1. Please Note: Not compatible with protocol-converting devices (e.g., USB-to-Serial, CAN adapters) or wireless USB receivers. Not recommended for real-time isochronous devices such as webcams or audio equipment.

This is the author’s explanation of the filtering behavior; no false-positive rate or independent test results are provided. A responding port should not automatically be treated as a development server just because it appears in a scan.
