The same ratings page lists Patri Guijarro and Yui Hasegawa at 88 OVR as well. So the answer depends on what “best” means: EA’s introductory top three are Rodri, Kimmich and Rice, while every player tied at the next-highest rating includes Guijarro and Hasegawa.

Which FC 27 CDM suits your preferred role?
For the highest overall rating
Choose Rodri if you are sorting by OVR: his 90 rating is the highest among the CDMs named on EA’s page. His card combines 85 DEF and 81 PHY with 86 PAS, though its 62 PAC is the lowest pace figure among these five players.
For passing
Kimmich has the strongest passing rating in this group at 90 PAS. His 71 PAC and 81 DEF are lower than Rice’s corresponding 72 PAC and 85 DEF, so the stats point to a trade-off between distribution and those attributes.

What EA’s ranking and ratings cover
EA says its ranking sorts first by Overall rating, then uses subjective factors based on athletes’ real-life performance rather than item attributes to order players further. The order within a rating tie therefore should not be read as a stat-based verdict.
The page’s table covers Gold, Silver and Bronze Player Items available in Ultimate Team ’27 at launch. It excludes Heroes, Icons, Campaign items, later additions and live-form updates in other modes. EA also notes that ratings and details may be updated in its database, and club affiliations can change after real-world transfers; check the official list for the current published entries.
