On PC, the baseline separates keyboard movement from mouse camera movement: use WASD to move and, when needed, hold the right mouse button while moving the mouse to adjust the camera. The mouse wheel and I/O are Roblox’s documented zoom inputs. The up arrow is also listed for forward movement, but the documentation does not describe a special Dungeon Quest layout that replaces the standard movement keys.
On a gamepad, Roblox’s baseline uses the primary thumbstick for movement and the secondary thumbstick for camera movement. Roblox also documents the secondary stick as a way to zoom. This distinction also matters when comparing PC and Xbox. Roblox documents platform-level keyboard, mouse, and gamepad inputs, but the game-specific combat mapping is not verified for either platform. A player may be able to move with a controller and still not know how to activate an ability. Conversely, a PC player may be able to open the inventory and assign an ability without having a documented hotkey for using it. Treat movement, interface access, assignment, and combat activation as separate questions.
A May 2025 Dungeon Quest forum discussion included a player report that a controller worked. That report is useful evidence that controller play has been experienced, but the exchange did not establish a complete current Xbox layout or confirm every gamepad model and client. - Follow the slot prompt. The client prompts you to assign the selected ability to an ability slot. Use the prompt shown in your version rather than assuming a slot number or key from another guide.
- Check activation in the live client. The Inventory page does not state which key activates the slot. Look for an in-game action prompt or control information in your current client; do not assume the ability is activated by clicking its inventory icon after assignment.
If you are trying to diagnose why an ability is not usable, check these steps separately. First establish whether the ability is stored and whether the client lets you assign it. Then check whether an activation prompt is shown. The fact that the inventory route works does not confirm a keyboard hotkey, and an unverified hotkey should not be substituted for the prompt in the current game.
How do I change the controls?
There is no confirmed, universal current remapping route for all Dungeon Quest clients. A July 2022 answer in the Dungeon Quest support forum offered a specific historical route for restoring touch controls: open the main or pause menu, choose Options, select Control, and set Controller HUD to Off. To look for a setting in your own client, open its main or pause menu and inspect any Options and Control/Controls sections that are actually present. If you see controller defaults or a remapping option, check what actions it lists and whether changes respond in your client. If the setting is missing or does nothing, the cited forum discussions do not establish a dependable alternate path. Avoid assuming that Android menu behavior, Xbox menus, and PC menus are identical.
The question “How do I change the controls?” does not always mean the same thing. A player might want to restore a touch HUD, view a controller layout, or assign a different input to an ability. On PC, keyboard and mouse offer separate physical inputs for movement and camera handling, while the inventory route documented by the community wiki uses a visible blue bag button. On Xbox or another gamepad, the platform baseline instead uses thumbsticks, Start, and a general tool trigger. These descriptions compare input methods, not confirmed game-specific combat performance. If you already own a compatible gamepad for PC, it is a reasonable optional way to try Roblox gamepad input.
