For most Windows PC-first buyers, the Xbox Elite Series 2 is the simpler default: Microsoft documents Windows compatibility and Xbox Accessories configuration. Choose the DualSense Edge if you want PlayStation’s profile workflow, remappable controls, or replaceable stick modules. Neither is a universal winner, and this is a feature-fit recommendation—not a comparative performance test.
At a glance: which controller fits your PC setup?
| What matters most | Better fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Windows setup and Xbox-style configuration | Xbox Elite Series 2 | Microsoft documents Windows support and configuration through Xbox Accessories. You can connect by USB or Bluetooth; an Xbox Wireless adapter is sold separately. Microsoft’s specifications describe the supported options. |
| PlayStation profile workflow and remapping | DualSense Edge | PlayStation Accessories for Windows can create and edit profiles, including button mapping and stick, trigger, and vibration adjustments. Sony’s PC support page explains the available controls. |
| Replaceable analog stick module | DualSense Edge | Sony says replacement stick modules are sold separately and can be used in either the left or right position. See the DualSense Edge manual. |
| Manufacturer-advertised battery life | Xbox Elite Series 2 | Microsoft advertises up to 40 hours per charge, with actual life varying by use and accessories. This is not a head-to-head battery test. See Microsoft’s specifications. |
| Lowest purchase cost | Not established | Microsoft’s US page displayed $179.99 ERP for the full Elite Series 2 and a starting $129.99 ERP for Core when accessed in 2026. These are manufacturer list figures, not live prices; a comparable current Sony price was not established. Check Microsoft’s current listing and compare current listings for both exact models and packages. |
How they connect to Windows
DualSense Edge
Sony lists Windows 10 (64-bit) and Windows 11 support, with USB-C and Bluetooth connection options. The presence of a connection option does not mean every controller feature works in every game or over every connection. Sony notes that some features are unavailable over Bluetooth. Sony’s Windows PC guidance lists the qualifications.

Xbox Elite Series 2
Microsoft lists Windows 7 or later support. For Windows 10 and 11, it specifies Bluetooth, the included cable, or an Xbox Wireless adapter sold separately. Windows 7 and 8.1 require the included cable, and Microsoft says some functionality is unsupported on those systems. Xbox Accessories configuration features are listed for Windows 10 and 11. Microsoft’s specifications provide the system and connection details.
Which features work on PC?
DualSense Edge features depend on the game and connection
Adaptive triggers work when a game supports them. Haptic feedback may require a USB connection on PC. The built-in microphone and speaker are also game-dependent, and the headset jack requires a wired PC connection. If you are choosing the Edge for a particular feature, confirm that the specific PC game supports it and check whether that feature requires USB. Sony’s PC feature guidance describes these limitations.
#1 Best Overall
- Ultra Customizable Controls
- Mappable Back Buttons
- DualSense Wireless Controller Features Built In
- Replaceable Stick Modules and Caps
Configuration software
PlayStation Accessories on Windows can update DualSense Edge firmware and create or edit controller profiles. Its profile controls include remapping and adjustments for sticks, triggers, and vibration. Xbox Accessories on Windows 10 and 11 can map Elite Series 2 buttons and configure controller options. The key difference is the software workflow you prefer, not a documented guarantee that one controller works better in every game.
What the Elite Series 2 battery claim means
Microsoft advertises “up to 40 hours of battery life per charge” for the Elite Series 2. The company qualifies that figure: actual battery life varies significantly with use and accessories. Treat it as a manufacturer maximum, not a typical-use promise or a comparison with the DualSense Edge. Microsoft’s product specifications state the claim and caveat.
Rank #2
- Aim and move with precision by swapping in fresh stick modules* so you’re always playing with equipment that’s in great shape. Plus, three types of changeable stick caps help you stay comfortable in-game without sacrificing grip or stability.
- Mappable back buttons The DualSense Edge wireless controller’s two swappable sets of back buttons can be configured to any other button input, so you’ve always got game-changing actions and essential controls at your fingertips.
- Adjustable trigger lengths Manually set the travel distance of your left and right triggers for an optimal experience with whatever you’re playing. Fast-paced FPS? Set a shorter travel distance to shoot faster on the field. Competitive racer? Set a longer travel distance for precise throttle control on the track.
- Remappable buttons Remap or even deactivate specific button inputs, so you can create a completely personalized control setup that’s ideal for the game at hand.
- Quick-swap control profiles Once you’ve found your ideal control settings, you can save them to unique profiles and swap between them on-the-fly, so your favourite configurations are always ready when you are.
How to choose
- Choose the Xbox Elite Series 2 if you want the straightforward Windows-focused option, plan to use Xbox Accessories on Windows 10 or 11, or value Microsoft’s advertised battery-life figure.
- Choose the DualSense Edge if its PlayStation Accessories profile workflow suits you, you want its documented remapping options, or replacing a stick module matters to you.
- Check game support first if your decision depends on DualSense Edge adaptive triggers, haptics, microphone, or speaker features. Their availability depends on the game, and some also depend on a wired connection.
- Compare exact listings before buying if price is decisive. Microsoft’s US ERP figures do not establish current retailer prices, and the Core price is for a distinct package rather than the full Elite Series 2.
What this comparison cannot establish
Official compatibility and feature documentation can help match each controller to a PC setup, but it does not establish which has lower latency, feels more comfortable, or lasts longer in real-world use. No comparative test results are available here, so those claims should not decide the recommendation.
