Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThat progression focus makes a synchronized installation especially important. A server and client that disagree about mods, registries or configuration can fail before a player reaches the world, or can create a broken experience after joining. Treat the release number as part of the server’s identity: choose it once, record it, and use that same number everywhere.
Version, loader and files you need
The supported release family identified for this guide is Minecraft 1.20.1 running on Forge. CurseForge publishes the playable client files and a distinct server-pack ZIP for each release. The current project result available on October 15, 2026, lists release 6.0.0 Beta 6.

Earlier releases have their own server archives. If your group chooses an earlier version, replace the example above with that release’s exact filename and follow the scripts and README inside that archive. Startup scripts, configuration files and filenames can change between releases.
Choose the release before downloading
- Open the official Druidic Quest project on CurseForge and enter its files or releases archive.
- Select the release your group intends to run. Confirm that the file is for Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge.
- Record the complete release number in your setup notes. For the current listing, that means 6.0.0 Beta 6.
- Download the server-pack ZIP whose name contains that same release number. Download the corresponding client release separately for each player.
Do not assume that the newest client download can be paired with an older server ZIP. The archive’s version, the server’s mod list and every player’s client must agree.
Prepare a clean server directory
Keep the server pack intact
Create a new directory dedicated to this instance, then unpack the server ZIP into it. Keep the supplied scripts, configuration files, libraries and documentation together. Do not copy selected files into an unrelated Forge installation and do not substitute the client-only ZIP. The server pack exists to provide the server-side arrangement expected by the modpack.
Read the release documentation
Before starting, open the README or equivalent documentation included in the archive. Use the startup script supplied with that exact release rather than copying a command from another version. This is particularly important for beta releases, where filenames and launch details may change.
Plan storage and backups
Use a directory that the account running the server can read and write. Leave room for the world, logs, configuration changes and backups. No official minimum RAM, player-capacity figure or Java version is established in the available project information, so do not advertise a specific number as a requirement. Instead, follow the release’s own instructions and observe the server under the number of players you expect.

Install and start the server
- Unpack the selected archive. Extract the matching server-pack ZIP into the new server directory. Verify that the supplied launch script and README are present.
- Run the supplied startup script. Start the server using the script or instructions shipped with that release. Avoid inventing a replacement command when the archive already includes one.
- Complete the EULA step. On its first launch, the server will require the Minecraft EULA confirmation. Stop the process, open the generated EULA file, review the terms, and change the acceptance entry only if you agree to them.
- Stop cleanly before editing. Once the first-launch files have been generated, stop the server from its console. Editing configuration while the process is running can be overwritten or can leave an incomplete file.
- Set policy in
server.properties. Choose the server name, difficulty, whitelist policy, view distance and other gameplay or network settings appropriate for your group. Use the property names and syntax generated by this installation; do not paste settings from a different pack. - Start again and inspect the log. Watch for a successful Forge/mod initialization and a completed world load. A clean startup is the point at which to perform a local connection test.
Keep the original archive and a copy of the release documentation outside the live directory. They provide a reference if a later update replaces a script or configuration file.

Configure access and protect the world
Whitelist your players
If the server is intended for a private group, enable the whitelist in the server’s configuration or use the administrative controls documented by the release. Add player accounts deliberately rather than opening access while troubleshooting. A whitelist is also useful during an upgrade: it lets the operator bring the server online for an administrator without exposing an unfinished world to everyone.
Choose difficulty and view distance deliberately
Druidic Quest’s expert progression makes difficulty a group decision. Set it before regular play and tell players when you change it. View distance affects what each player can see and the work the server must perform; begin with a conservative setting, test with the expected group, and adjust only after observing the result.
Back up before changes
Stop the server before making a full world backup. Include the world directory, configuration files and any server-specific data created by the pack. Keep at least one backup separate from the live machine. Take another backup before changing release versions or replacing the server archive.
Make every client match
Each player should install Minecraft 1.20.1, Forge and the same Druidic Quest release number selected for the server. For a 6.0.0 Beta 6 server, every client must use the 6.0.0 Beta 6 client files; a different beta or an older release is not a compatible substitute.

- Give players the exact release number and, if useful, the server archive’s filename as a reference.
- Have each player install the client through the launcher or modpack workflow they normally use, selecting Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge.
- Ask players to remove or disable an older Druidic Quest profile before launching the new one, so residual mods and configurations cannot be mixed accidentally.
- Have everyone launch the client once offline or before connecting. This creates the required local files and exposes missing dependencies earlier.
- Compare the displayed release number and loader in each player’s profile with the server administrator’s setup notes.
Version drift is the most avoidable cause of mod-list and registry mismatch errors. If one player cannot join while others can, compare that player’s Minecraft version, Forge version and complete Druidic Quest release before changing server files.
Test locally before inviting remote players
Run a local connection test
From a computer on the same local network, launch the matching client and connect using the server’s local address and the connection method documented for your operating system. Confirm that the player can enter the world, accept the expected progression systems and leave without errors. Check the server console while the player joins so you can associate any warning with the exact action that caused it.
Check the basic gameplay path
- Join and leave once with a fresh matching client.
- Confirm that quests, world generation and the pack’s major progression systems load.
- Verify that the whitelist behaves as intended if it is enabled.
- Stop and restart the server, then confirm that the world and configuration persist.
Only after this local test should you expose the server to players outside the host’s network.
Open the server to remote players
Remote access depends on the network controls of the machine or managed service running the server. Configure those controls according to the host’s documentation, then give players the connection address through a private channel. Do not publish an address while the installation is still using default access policy or before the whitelist decision is complete.

Self-hosting versus a managed provider
| Choice | What you control | Main operational trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Self-hosting | Server files, backups, configuration and network exposure | You perform installation, updates, monitoring and network setup |
| Managed hosting | The imported server pack and in-game configuration allowed by the provider | The provider reduces routine operating work, but compatibility and import rules must be confirmed |
When self-hosting fits
Self-hosting is appropriate when one member of the group can maintain the machine and wants direct control over the world files and backups. It also makes it straightforward to preserve the exact archive, scripts and configuration used by the group. The cost is ongoing responsibility for uptime, security, storage and remote connectivity.
When managed hosting fits
A managed provider can reduce operating work, but it must support Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge and allow the Druidic Quest server pack to be imported. Ask the provider specifically whether you can upload the ZIP or its extracted files, whether custom Forge modpacks are allowed, how backups are handled and which files you can edit. Confirm these points for the exact release rather than relying on a generic “modded Minecraft” label.
General server-side modpack approaches documented by Modrinth include Modrinth Servers, mrpack-install and the itzg/minecraft-server Docker image. Those are deployment options in general, not a guarantee that a particular service has validated Druidic Quest. Test the selected release in the provider’s environment before moving an established world.
Troubleshoot the common failures
“Incompatible mod list” or registry mismatch
First compare the exact Druidic Quest release number on the server and client. Then compare Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge. If the server was updated, update every client to that same release; do not repair one client by copying random mods from another installation. If the mismatch remains, restore the server’s original archive and inspect the release README for changed files.
The server stops during first launch
Read the first error in the console rather than the final shutdown message. Confirm that you launched the supplied script from the extracted server directory and that the account has permission to create files there. Recheck the EULA step, then repeat the startup with the release’s documented procedure. Avoid adding unofficial launch arguments until the archive’s instructions have been followed exactly.
Best Value
- Play and share with friends on console, mobile and Windows 10
- discover community creations in the new in-game store
- access new mini games and game modes through servers
A player can connect locally but not remotely
The modpack is already starting and accepting local connections, so investigate the host’s firewall, router or provider networking rules. Verify that the remote address being shared is the one intended for outside players and that the server process remains running after a local player disconnects. Do not replace the modpack or regenerate the world for a routing problem.
The world or settings appear to have reset
Stop the server cleanly and inspect the directory from which the startup script was run. Starting the same script from a different working directory can create or load a different set of files. Restore the most recent backup if necessary, then keep one fixed server directory and document the launch procedure for anyone else who administers it.
An update breaks an existing world
Do not update a live world without a backup. Preserve the old server directory, copy the world and configuration to a test directory, and start the new release there first. Have the group connect with matching clients and verify quests, world content and configuration before scheduling the production change. If the test fails, return to the preserved installation rather than mixing files from both releases.
Maintenance routine for a long-running server
- Record the exact Druidic Quest release, Minecraft version and Forge loader in the server notes.
- Keep the server archive, README and startup script associated with that release.
- Back up the world and configuration before updates and retain a separate copy.
- Apply configuration edits only while the server is stopped.
- Tell players which release they must install before restarting after an upgrade.
- Test a release change with a copy of the world before applying it to the main instance.
This process matters more for an expert pack than for a small collection of independent mods: quests, recipes, automation systems and world content can depend on a precise set of registries and configuration files.
Quick setup checklist
- Choose one Druidic Quest release and write it down.
- Confirm Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge.
- Download that release’s dedicated server-pack ZIP, not the client-only archive.
- Extract it into a new directory and read its included documentation.
- Run the supplied startup script, complete the EULA step, stop, and edit configuration safely.
- Set server name, difficulty, whitelist and view distance for your group.
- Back up the world and configuration.
- Install the identical release on every client.
- Test a local connection and restart persistence.
- Configure remote network access or import the pack into a compatible managed host.
A Druidic Quest Expert server is ready for regular play when the server and every client use the same release, the world survives a clean restart, and a matching client can connect locally before remote access is enabled.
