DroidDeck 0.3.0 adds Steam Deck-style controller integration, gyro and Steam Input support, an expanded performance overlay, and optional frame generation to its Android Steam setup. The developers also report Steam startup dropping from about 31 seconds to about six seconds, and say Offline mode works. That timing is a project-reported result, not an independently verified benchmark.
What DroidDeck 0.3.0 does
DroidDeck is an Android app for running the ARM64 Steam client in Big Picture mode. Windows games run locally through ARM64 Proton and FEX; it is not an alternative Android operating system, and the project says root access is not required. Version 0.3.0 focuses on making that local Steam session feel more like a handheld console, improving visibility into performance, and adding optional frame-generation support. These additions do not remove the underlying requirements for compatible hardware and games.

During Steam sessions, a handheld’s built-in controls can appear to Steam as a Steam Deck controller. The release adds a Quick Access button and support for the device gyro; games can also receive Steam Input virtual controllers and layouts. On supported dual-screen handhelds, the second display can be used for back grips and trackpads.

These features are aimed at integrating handheld controls with Steam games, rather than making every game automatically work well. The game still needs to behave appropriately with its Proton setup and controller configuration.
Performance overlay, drivers, and frame limiting
The Steam performance overlay now offers four levels. Depending on the selected level, it can show GPU and CPU load, clocks, temperature, VRAM, and battery information. Quick Access can also show estimated battery life and time to full charge.

The developers say they optimized common PRoot calls and added a frame limiter that can be configured per mode. The release also documents automatic matching of runtime and display drivers, including the project’s DD-Turnip builds, while retaining manual driver selection. Frame generation is optional and needs Lossless Scaling
DroidDeck 0.3.0 supports LSFG, or Lossless Scaling Frame Generation, as an optional addition. Notebookcheck reports target options of 60, 90, or 120 FPS, paced against the game’s rendered frames. You need your own copy of Lossless Scaling; DroidDeck does not distribute its proprietary shaders. Frame generation may affect perceived smoothness, but it does not guarantee that a particular game will reach or sustain a target frame rate. Steam startup: what the 31-to-6-second claim means
The DroidDeck developers say Steam startup improved from about 31 seconds to about six seconds and report that Offline mode works. These are the project’s own statements in its 2026 release notes; the reviewed coverage does not establish the timing as a controlled, independently measured benchmark. Treat the figures as a developer-reported comparison, not a startup time guaranteed on every device or installation.
Check device compatibility before installing
The project lists Android 9 or later and compatible Qualcomm Adreno hardware, including Adreno 730 or newer and 8-series GPUs. It names the AYN Odin 2 among verified devices. That does not establish compatibility for every Android phone or handheld: the project and Notebookcheck both describe hardware restrictions, with some GPU families unsupported and other models untested.

Check the project’s current device compatibility information for the exact model and GPU before relying on DroidDeck. A device running Android is not sufficient evidence of support.

DroidDeck is for people seeking local execution of Steam games on compatible Android hardware. That differs from remote streaming, where a PC runs the game and sends the video to a handheld. When comparing setups, check whether the game runs locally or streams, device and GPU support, controller and gyro integration, the game’s Proton compatibility, and whether optional frame generation requires separate software.

Version 0.3.0 makes the local Steam experience more handheld-oriented, but the feature list should not be read as a promise that any specific game will install, run smoothly, or benefit from frame generation. Community reports about individual games are anecdotal, not controlled compatibility or performance tests.
