For smoother gameplay in Dragon’s Dogma 2, start by selecting Performance mode on console if it is available, then compare it with Graphics mode in the same demanding location. On PC, avoid a one-size-fits-all preset: identify whether your CPU, GPU, or both are limiting performance, and test changes in a crowded city as well as an open area. A September 2026 update reportedly added performance choices, so launch-era advice is useful only as a starting point.
Which settings should you change first?
Choose based on what is limiting your experience: console players can compare the available graphics modes, while PC players should change settings systematically rather than apply a preset blindly. Use the same location and activity for each comparison; a city street and an open area can put different demands on the system.

On PS5 and Xbox
- Open the game’s graphics or display options and select Performance mode, if offered.
- Play through a demanding scene, such as a crowded city or a fight with several enemies, and judge motion smoothness and image clarity.
- Switch to Graphics mode and repeat the same scene. Keep the mode that best balances smoother motion against the image quality you want.
Windows Central reported that Capcom’s September 2026 Title Update 3.2 added performance choices on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Its report gives maximums of 60 fps on Xbox Series X and 45 fps on Xbox Series S with FSR upscaling. Those are reported ceilings, not guaranteed or sustained frame rates in every scene. The evidence available here does not establish exact current resolution targets or a complete mode-by-mode specification for PS5 or Xbox.

- Record your current graphics settings and test a populated city and an open area before changing anything.
- Work out whether the CPU, GPU, or both appear to be the constraint. Performance can change substantially with hardware and scene complexity.
- Change one demanding visual option at a time, then repeat the same route or activity. Keep a change only if it improves the experience without an unacceptable image-quality trade-off.
- Assess your upscaling choice alongside resolution and sharpness; do not assume a setting that helps one system will help another.
There is no post-update PC benchmark table here that supports a universal preset or guaranteed gain. If you consult launch-era PC guides, treat their settings recommendations as historical starting points, not measurements of the current build.
#1 Best Overall
- A Grand Adventure – Dragon’s Dogma 2 begins in a subterranean jail, where the Dragon’s voice echoes in the fog of lost memories.
- Single-Player Cooperation – Up to three mysterious otherworldly beings, known as Pawns, accompany the Arisen throughout their journey.
- Made with RE ENGINE – Capcom’s advanced RE ENGINE produces vividly detailed, high fidelity graphics combined with immersive physics and complex and reactive character AI to create a setting where decisions, and their consequences, come to life.
- Pre-order Bonus: Superior Weapons Quartet
Why can the game still lag in a city?
Performance depends on both your hardware and what the game is rendering. A dense city and an open landscape are not interchangeable test scenes, so a setting that seems effective outdoors may not resolve slowdowns in a populated area. On PC, CPU and GPU capability both matter; on console, the selected graphics mode affects the balance between motion and image quality.
Compare the same demanding city scene before and after a change. If the experience remains uneven there, test another single setting rather than assuming that a higher advertised maximum—or a result from an open area—will hold in every situation.

- A Grand Adventure – Dragon’s Dogma 2 begins in a subterranean jail, where the Dragon’s voice echoes in the fog of lost memories. With their heart taken by the Dragon, the Arisen is set on a path to slay that symbol of the world’s destruction as it soars through the sky on massive wings, breathing flames that scorch everything in its path. With the Arisen’s future veiled in mystery, what challenges and triumphs await on the path to their destiny?
- Single-Player Cooperation – Up to three mysterious otherworldly beings, known as Pawns, accompany the Arisen throughout their journey. Pawns create the feeling of a cooperative gameplay experience by offering unique characteristics, skills, and knowledge gained from their experiences with other Arisen.
- Made with RE ENGINE – Capcom’s advanced RE ENGINE produces vividly detailed, high fidelity graphics combined with immersive physics and complex and reactive character AI to create a setting where decisions, and their consequences, come to life.
How much should you rely on older settings guides?
Digital Foundry’s technical review and PC Gamer’s tuning advice date from the game’s launch period in 2024. They can help explain launch-era behavior and the general effects of graphics options, but they predate later updates, including the September 2026 update reported by Windows Central. Do not treat their performance numbers as benchmarks for the current build.

That is an older recommendation to reassess on your current version and hardware, not a proven best choice today. Likewise, launch-era analysis reported a performance cost for ray tracing relative to its lighting benefit; regard that as historical guidance unless current-build testing on your own system confirms the trade-off.

What is not established about the current performance options?
Windows Central’s September 2026 report is the freshest source here for the new options and Xbox maximums, but it does not provide a complete official settings table for every console mode. Exact current per-mode resolution targets and a hardware-specific, post-update PC comparison are therefore not established. Capcom’s support category is available at Capcom Support, but the support information cited here does not supply detailed performance instructions.
For a useful PC comparison, a test needs to identify the game version, PC specifications, resolution, upscaler, settings, and location. Average frame rate and frame-time behavior are separate measurements; neither should be implied if it was not measured.
