Dragon’s Dogma 2: How to Find and Appraise Relics

Relics, or spoils, are unidentified rewards in Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen. Find them in Norgan, return to Jiera at the Norgandian Settlement, and spend Rift Crystals to reveal randomized gear and other rewards.

In Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, relics—also called spoils—are unidentified rewards found while exploring Norgan and defeating enemies. They are not usable equipment when you pick them up. Carry them to the Norgandian Settlement, speak with Jiera, and spend Rift Crystals (RC) to have each one appraised. The appraisal reveals the item, but its equipment type, stats and special skill can vary.

For an early example, the Relics of the Past quest leads to a level-one Light Weaponry spoil in a sunken wreck at Valgr Ravine. The walkthrough reports that Jiera provides 300 RC for the first appraisal, while that example costs 15 RC. Those figures are quest-specific guide values, not a universal price list.

The relic system in one minute

  • Search Norgan for unidentified spoils in chests, gathering points and other exploration loot, or obtain them from defeated enemies.
  • Keep them in your inventory until you can return to the Norgandian Settlement.
  • Find Jiera near the bonfire and choose Tell me of relics.
  • Select a spoil, pay the displayed RC cost and choose Appraise.
  • Review the revealed result before taking, storing, selling or otherwise managing it.

This loop is described in launch-period coverage from VGC and NoobFeed. The sources use “relics” and “spoils” for the unidentified rewards; the introductory quest itself labels the item as a spoil.

What relics and spoils are

A spoil is an unidentified reward that occupies inventory space until Jiera appraises it. It may turn into equipment, currency, consumables or another reward rather than a guaranteed weapon. VGC describes the system as the expansion’s gear-reward loop and notes that rewards can come from combat as well as exploration.

  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

The practical distinction is important: picking up a spoil does not immediately give you a weapon you can equip. You must pay the appraisal cost first. Because spoils add carry weight, holding many of them for too long can make travel less convenient. Returning to the settlement periodically is therefore part of managing the system, not merely a quest requirement.

Do not treat the word “relic” as proof that every result is rare equipment. The reviewed guides list possible outcomes including Norgan Ducats, curatives, gold and rare scrolls, alongside gear. They do not publish a complete table showing the probability of each result.

Where do I find a relic?

There is no verified complete relic map in the available guides. The supported sources identify three broad ways to obtain spoils:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Defeated enemies: some combat encounters can provide unidentified rewards.
  • Gathering and exploration points: search chests and other loot locations as you travel through Norgan.
  • Quest and walkthrough locations: the early Relics of the Past objective sends you to a specific spoil in Valgr Ravine.

These categories tell you how to search without implying a drop rate or an exhaustive route. Neither the VGC overview nor the other reviewed guides establishes exact probabilities, a full regional checklist or a guarantee that a particular enemy always drops a particular level of spoil.

Where to appraise relics

All known appraisal instructions point to Jiera at the Norgandian Settlement. She is seated by a wooden house near the bonfire. After you have a spoil, speak with her and select Tell me of relics. The game then displays the spoils available for appraisal and the RC cost for the selected item.

There is no second appraisal provider established by the reviewed guides. If you are searching for a different town, shop or menu, return to the Norgandian Settlement instead of spending time looking for an unverified alternative.

Early route: the Relics of the Past quest

The following route follows the detailed walkthrough published by AllThingsHow. It is an early example of how to obtain a spoil and learn the appraisal process, not a claim that it is the only relic location.

1. Start the objective in the settlement

According to the walkthrough, the quest becomes available after Chilling Tidings in the Norgandian Settlement. Locate Jiera beside the wooden house near the bonfire and speak with her. She gives you the objective to obtain a relic. If the conversation does not appear, verify that Chilling Tidings has been completed and that you are speaking to Jiera at the settlement rather than searching in Valgr Ravine first.

2. Leave through the ruined archway

Exit the settlement through the ruined stone archway. Follow the road downhill in the direction of the lake. The route is described by landmarks rather than a coordinate, so use the water and the waterfalls to confirm that you are on the intended path.

3. Follow the stream to the second waterfall

Continue along the stream past the first waterfall. At the pool beneath the second waterfall, look for a sunken wreck made up of crates and clay jars near a boulder. The target is the container at this wreck, where the walkthrough identifies the item as Spoils: Lv 1, Light Weaponry.

4. Distinguish the wreck from nearby carts

The area contains visual distractions. A damaged cart at the lakeshore and another shattered cart beside the stream are not the target described in the walkthrough. Search the submerged wreck at the second-waterfall pool instead. Beorcans and direwolves may be nearby, but the walkthrough says you can run past them; defeating them is not required to pick up this quest item.

5. Return to Jiera

Carry the unidentified spoil back to the Norgandian Settlement. Speak with Jiera again and select Tell me of relics. The walkthrough reports that she supplies 300 RC for the first appraisal in this introductory sequence. Treat that as the value shown for this quest, not as a permanent allowance attached to every future appraisal.

6. Appraise the level-one Light Weaponry spoil

Select the spoil in Jiera’s appraisal list. The example displays a cost of 15 RC. Confirm the selection, choose Appraise and wait for the result screen. The game then presents the revealed item and lets you take it, store it, sell it or otherwise manage it through the available inventory options.

7. Complete the quest and assess the result

AllThingsHow lists 3,000 XP as the quest-completion reward for this walkthrough. The resulting weapon is not fixed. The guide’s item description reads:

“Timeworn arms of an ancient war. Have them appraised to obtain a sword, daggers, or censer.”

The same source explains that the spoil can become a sword, daggers or a censer and that its special skill is random. A weapon shown in a walkthrough is therefore an example roll, not a guaranteed drop for every player.

How to appraise a spoil with Jiera

  1. Go to the Norgandian Settlement and locate Jiera near the bonfire and wooden house.
  2. Talk to her and choose Tell me of relics.
  3. Highlight the unidentified spoil you want to reveal.
  4. Read the displayed RC cost before confirming. Costs can be tied to the specific spoil; the introductory Light Weaponry example shows 15 RC.
  5. Choose Appraise and confirm the transaction.
  6. Inspect the revealed result, then choose the inventory action you want, such as taking or storing it.

If the spoil is not listed, check that it is actually unidentified loot and that it is still in your inventory. If the menu shows a different price, use the number displayed by the game rather than assuming that the introductory 15 RC value applies to every tier.

What does the first appraisal cost?

Value What it refers to Qualification
300 RC Rift Crystals supplied for the first appraisal in the introductory quest Reported by the AllThingsHow walkthrough for Relics of the Past; not established as a universal first-appraisal allowance
15 RC Displayed cost to appraise the level-one Light Weaponry spoil from the Valgr Ravine example Guide-verified example price; other spoils may display different costs
3,000 XP Quest-completion reward Reported for this walkthrough, not a reward rate for every relic or appraisal

The guides do not establish a complete price schedule by spoil level, an RC cost formula or the odds of receiving each possible result. Appraise according to the current item’s displayed cost and your available crystals.

Why the result may not match the item you wanted

Appraisal is randomized. For the level-one Light Weaponry spoil, the documented possibilities are a sword, daggers or a censer, and the special skill can vary. VGC additionally reports randomized equipment statistics and non-equipment outcomes such as Norgan Ducats, curatives, gold and rare scrolls.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That variability has two consequences:

  • Do not promise a vocation-specific weapon. “Light Weaponry” narrows the family of possible results in the walkthrough, but it does not guarantee one named sword or one fixed skill.
  • Do not equate a higher cost with a guaranteed perfect roll. The sources do not establish that an expensive spoil has better odds, a fixed rarity or a superior skill.

If your result is not useful for your current build, treat that as a normal outcome of the system rather than evidence that the appraisal failed. You can manage the revealed item through the result screen’s available take, store or sell options.

Which spoil should you appraise first?

There is no verified “best” spoil or published ranking of appraisal targets. A sensible order can be based only on the factors the guides support:

  • Displayed RC cost: compare the price with your current Rift Crystal balance.
  • Level and type: a spoil’s stated level or weapon category can indicate whether its possible result is relevant to your current vocation, but it does not determine the exact roll.
  • Immediate build needs: appraise a spoil that could produce equipment for the vocation or play style you are using now, while accepting that the outcome remains random.
  • Inventory pressure: if several unidentified spoils are weighing you down, returning to Jiera can free carrying capacity even when the result is not gear.

These are decision criteria, not a probability guide. The reviewed coverage does not provide exact odds by level, type or cost, so avoid spending RC on the assumption that a particular spoil must produce a specific item.

Managing carry weight while collecting spoils

Because unidentified spoils add carry weight, exploration and appraisal should be planned together. Search chests and gathering points during a route, but make settlement visits part of your loop when your inventory begins to fill. At the settlement you can speak to Jiera, appraise selected spoils and then decide whether to keep, store or sell the revealed result.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

This approach also prevents a common mistake: treating every unappraised item as equipment worth carrying indefinitely. Until Jiera reveals it, you do not know whether it will become a weapon, a consumable, currency or another listed reward. Keep the items that fit your available RC and current build, and return later for the rest rather than allowing unidentified loot to dominate your carrying capacity.

Common problems and fixes

“I cannot find the relic at Valgr Ravine.”

Recheck the landmarks. Leave through the ruined archway, follow the road toward the lake, pass the first waterfall and search the pool below the second waterfall. Look for the sunken crates and clay jars near a boulder. Do not stop at the damaged lakeshore cart or the shattered cart beside the stream.

“Enemies are blocking the objective.”

The walkthrough identifies nearby beorcans and direwolves but says they can be bypassed. Running past them is sufficient for the pickup described; the route does not require clearing the area first.

“Jiera will not show an appraisal menu.”

Confirm that you are at the Norgandian Settlement and have selected Tell me of relics. For the quest route, make sure you spoke with her after completing Chilling Tidings and obtained the objective to acquire a relic.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

“The price is not 15 RC.”

The 15 RC amount belongs to the specific level-one Light Weaponry example. Read the cost shown for the spoil you selected. No complete tier-by-tier price table has been established, so a different displayed amount is not necessarily an error.

“The appraisal gave me a different weapon or no weapon.”

That is consistent with the documented random system. The example can produce a sword, daggers or a censer, while broader coverage lists non-gear rewards as possible outcomes. The sources do not describe a reroll command or a guaranteed result.

What is and is not known about relic locations

The Valgr Ravine wreck is a documented early route, not a complete map. Current guide coverage establishes that spoils can come from enemies and exploration loot across Norgan, but it does not enumerate every chest, gathering point, encounter or quest reward. It also does not publish drop probabilities or exact appraisal odds.

For that reason, be cautious with claims that a specific monster always drops a relic, that every waterfall has one, or that a particular RC price guarantees a rare scroll or high-stat weapon. Those details are not established by the available guides. If a later patch changes a location, cost or result pool, the values shown in-game should take precedence over this launch-period walkthrough.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A practical relic routine

  1. Explore Norgan normally and collect unidentified spoils from enemies, chests and other loot points.
  2. Watch your carry weight instead of treating every spoil as an immediate upgrade.
  3. When you reach the Norgandian Settlement, visit Jiera and select Tell me of relics.
  4. Compare each displayed RC cost with your current balance and your vocation’s needs.
  5. Appraise selected items, inspect the randomized result and then take, store or sell it.
  6. For the early quest, use the second-waterfall pool in Valgr Ravine as the reference location, remembering that the target is the sunken wreck rather than either nearby cart.

That routine captures the confirmed system without assuming an unverified drop table: find spoils in Norgan, return to the settlement, pay Jiera to reveal them and make decisions based on the result you actually receive.
