Its Switch 2 edition bundles the original game with the new expansion, and early review impressions describe a strong port with meaningful trade-offs: longer loading, occasional choppy moments and lower image quality than on PS5 Pro. It also brings the series’ familiar Dark Arisen name back for a new, larger-scale adventure—not a remake of the original expansion.
What is Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen?
It is a new expansion for Dragon’s Dogma 2, the role-playing game that launched in March 2024. Capcom’s announcement lists a 9 October 2026 release for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. On Switch 2, the base game and expansion are sold together; on the other listed platforms, the new content is offered as expansion DLC. Capcom’s announcement also says the project followed player requests for more exploration and combat.

What does the expansion add?
A new northern region and story
The adventure moves to Norgan, a long-abandoned northern region with a snowy setting. The player joins Eir to investigate the undying Fallen Dragon, while relics can be appraised to unlock weapons and skills. Nintendo’s UK product listing describes the story and identifies 12 Lost Rites dungeon challenges. Nintendo UK’s listing specifies one-player, single-system play, handheld, tabletop and TV modes, PEGI 18, 11 listed languages and a 49.6 GB download. Those rating and file-size details are for the UK storefront and may differ by region.

Why the Dark Arisen name returns
The original Dragon’s Dogma received an expansion called Dark Arisen. The new expansion revisits that name without repeating that release or making the two expansions identical. Director Kento Kinoshita told GamesRadar+ that the name reflects its connection to the new area’s story, a loot-based gameplay cycle reminiscent of the earlier expansion, and a familiar way to signal what players can expect.
The design also differs in emphasis. Kinoshita described this expansion as less focused on dungeon crawling than the first Dark Arisen, instead centering on a new open-world region with dungeon challenges along the way. Its mix of mystery, supporting characters and relic-based loot gives the name a thematic connection while establishing a different adventure.

How does the Switch 2 version run?
Nintendo Life’s review calls the Switch 2 release a strong Capcom port and says performance is much improved over Dragon’s Dogma 2 at its original launch. The reviewer also found the game visibly reduced in image quality compared with PS5 Pro, with longer loading around Pawn rifts and cutscenes and occasional choppy frame-rate moments—more noticeable while docked. These are that reviewer’s impressions, not controlled benchmarks or a guarantee of how every player will experience the game. Read Nintendo Life’s Switch 2 review.
Frame-rate options and the trade-off
The review reports that the Switch 2 settings include FSR 3 Frame Generation, a locked 30fps option and a variable-frame-rate option. The reviewer found frame generation made the locked mode feel smoother, but generally preferred variable frame rate. That is a subjective preference, not evidence that one setting will suit every player or scene.

- Explore a vast underground world—by smashing your way through it!
- A brand-new 3D platforming action adventure starring Donkey Kong and Pauline
- Bash through just about anything in groundbreaking exploration! Crash through walls and carve tunnels—the more you smash, the more areas open up to you
- Pair up with Pauline to use Bananza Transformations: smash through obstacles with the raw strength of Kong form, gallop with incredible speed as a Zebra, and more
- Team up with a friend in two-player co-op as Donkey Kong and Pauline! Blast foes and terrain alike with Pauline’s voice as you explore together
The practical choice is portability versus the reviewed performance and image-quality compromises. The Switch 2 edition makes the full game and expansion available in handheld, tabletop or TV mode, while the review’s comparison with PS5 Pro found a visual downgrade and more noticeable choppiness when docked. No battery-life results or resolution measurements are established here.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is the Switch 2 edition worth considering?
The case for it rests on more than technical performance. Nintendo Life praised the combat and the distinct feel of the ten vocations, and highlighted Pawn interactions and unpredictable encounters during travel as central to the game’s appeal. Those systems make a large world rewarding to explore, and the expansion is built around giving players more of that world and combat. For someone who values taking the adventure on the go and wants the base game bundled with the expansion, the package has a clear appeal; someone prioritizing image quality or steadier performance should weigh the review’s caveats.

The timing makes the return of Dark Arisen feel like a circle closing: Capcom is using a name associated with an earlier expansion to describe a new one shaped by requests to keep exploring. It is a return in theme and intent, not a literal remake. The available sales figure is franchise-wide, and no separate sales total for Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen is stated in Capcom’s announcement.
