If you’re looking for a font-size or UI-scaling option, Square Enix’s official English FAQ does not document one. The settings it does describe let you switch between English and Japanese text and voices, and adjust voice volume. Neither increases the size of on-screen text. On Nintendo Switch 2, a free update adds a choice between prioritizing graphics or frame rate; Square Enix describes these as presentation options, not text-enlargement controls.
Here’s what those settings actually change, where to find them, and what the available information does—and does not—establish about making the game easier to read.

Which settings actually make the text easier to read?
There is no documented in-game font-size or UI-scaling control in Square Enix’s English FAQ, accessed October 13, 2026. That is a limit of what this official source documents, not proof that no platform feature, later update, or other workaround exists. The documented game settings can address language or audio preferences, but they should not be mistaken for text enlargement.

- Text language: Switch between English and Japanese in the game’s language settings. Choose the language you understand most comfortably if unfamiliar wording or translation is slowing you down.
- Voice language: The same language menu lets you switch voices between English and Japanese. This changes spoken dialogue, not the size or language of the on-screen text.
- Voice volume: You can reduce the voice track, including setting it to zero. That may make audio less distracting, but it does not change visual legibility.
- Switch 2 graphics preference: The free Switch 2 update offers options to prioritize graphics or frame rate. Square Enix describes improvements to sharpness and smoothness, but does not describe this choice as a font-size adjustment.
- Battle speed: Normal, fast, and ultra-fast speeds change the pace of battles. They do not enlarge dialogue or menu text.
In short: use the language settings for comprehension, and treat voice volume or battle speed as separate preferences. None of the listed controls is documented as an in-game text-size setting.

How to change text and voice language
Square Enix gives this path for changing language in the game:
- Open Misc.
- Select System Settings.
- Open Language Settings.
- Choose English or Japanese for text and voices.
The FAQ describes English and Japanese text and voice choices. Do not assume that the same in-game menu offers every language shown on the PC store page: that language table describes Steam support specifically, not every console edition.
How to turn voices down or off
If spoken dialogue competes with your attention, Square Enix’s documented path is Misc. > Audio Settings. Adjust the Voices volume there; setting it to zero turns voices off. This changes the voice audio only. It does not increase text size, alter subtitles, or make menus larger.

What the Switch 2 graphics options change
Square Enix says the free Nintendo Switch 2 update improves sharpness and smoothness and adds an option to prioritize graphics or frame rate. Those descriptions concern how the game is presented and runs. The FAQ does not say that either choice scales text or enlarges the interface, so it would be misleading to recommend one as a font-size fix.
If you own another version, do not assume this Switch 2 update option applies to it. The official FAQ also says graphics differ according to platform specifications, even though game content is the same across versions. That distinction matters: platform-specific visual presentation is not evidence of a platform-wide text-sizing feature.
Battle speed can reduce waiting, not improve text legibility
Square Enix’s October 14, 2024 PlayStation Blog feature describes normal, fast, and ultra-fast battle speeds, as well as autonomous party tactics. These are combat pacing choices: they can make battles progress more quickly or reduce the need to choose every party action manually. They do not make dialogue, menus, or other text larger.

That blog post was published before the game launched, so it is useful as a description of those features, not as a complete current settings list for every platform or update. If your difficulty is reading the text itself, changing battle speed addresses a different problem.

The Steam listing for the PC version reports interface and subtitle support in English, French, Italian, German, Spanish (Spain and Latin America), Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. It lists full audio in English and Japanese. Steam lists the game as released on November 14, 2024, by Square Enix and ARTDINK.
These are Steam-specific language details. They should not be applied to console versions without platform-specific confirmation. The FAQ’s documented in-game language path describes switching English and Japanese text and voices; the store’s broader PC language table is a separate statement about what the Steam edition supports.

What to try if the text still feels too small
Because Square Enix’s FAQ does not document an in-game font-size control, it cannot establish a menu path for enlarging text. Avoid spending time searching the language, audio, graphics, or battle-speed settings for a control they are not described as providing.
Any magnification feature outside the game would be a system-level or display workaround, not a Dragon Quest III setting. Its availability and behavior depend on the platform, and magnification may crop or obscure part of the game image. The sources cited here do not provide current instructions for enabling such a feature on each platform, so check the support guidance for your specific device before relying on it.
For the PC version, the Steam language table can help you determine whether another supported interface or subtitle language better suits you; it does not establish that Steam offers a text-scaling option. For consoles, consult the support information for the specific console rather than assuming that PC language details or Switch 2 options carry over.
Version details that affect which advice applies
Square Enix says the game’s content is the same across versions while graphics vary with platform specifications. Its FAQ also says physical and downloadable editions do not differ in content; Steam and Microsoft Store versions are not physically available. These statements describe content and distribution, not identical menus or visual settings across platforms.
Use the platform-specific distinction when deciding what to try: the documented Switch 2 graphics/frame-rate choice applies to that update, while the nine interface/subtitle languages listed above are for Steam. The available sources do not establish a universal font-size setting shared by all editions.
Quick Recap
Quick decision guide
- If you understand one supported text language better than another, change it under Misc. > System Settings > Language Settings.
- If voices are distracting, adjust them under Misc. > Audio Settings, including setting their volume to zero.
- If you are on Switch 2 and want to choose between graphics and frame-rate priorities, use the update’s graphics option—but do not expect it to enlarge text.
- If you want battles to move faster, use a battle-speed option; it changes combat pacing, not readability.
- If the letters themselves remain too small, the official FAQ reviewed here does not document an in-game font-size or UI-scaling control. Look for device-specific accessibility guidance if considering magnification, and account for possible cropping or obstruction.
