Is a Dragon Age: Origins release confirmed for 2027?
No official EA or BioWare release date for a new edition has been established. The 2027 claim traces to a community project working to decompile and modernize the original game’s code. A report by Mercy Plays, published September 17, 2026, also distinguishes the effort from an official remaster or remake.

The project’s public update came from Reddit account Shot_Let_1344, who identified themself as one of its developers. On September 8, 2026, the contributor said the team believed it might reach about 90% decompilation in another year and then release its work publicly. That estimate is not a confirmed 2027 launch, and it does not promise a finished, ready-to-play product.

The effort reconstructs the game’s existing code rather than creating a new commercial edition. The developer reported that the project was 60% decompiled and 55% linked on September 8, 2026. Those are self-reported progress figures, not independently audited measurements.

- Used Book in Good Condition
Potential technical aims mentioned by the developer include 64-bit support, engine bug fixes, controller support, networking, and cooperative campaigns. These are possibilities under consideration, not a confirmed feature list for a public build. The developer also said the team’s focus is code, not art, writing: “We aim to modernize the game but we are not artists.”
Why the estimated date could change
The roughly 90% milestone and one-year estimate came from the project contributor’s assessment of the team’s progress at the time of the September 8, 2026 update. The developer said cleanup and reconstruction work would remain, including work on incomplete names. Reaching a percentage milestone alone would not establish that the code is complete, stable, or straightforward for players to use.

- Scalable combat options that let you decide the level of control you have over your party, including NPCs. Issue orders, set your own tactical AI, or take control of any party member to lead the charge.
- 6 possible playable preludes known as ‘Origin Stories’ which along with your play, define how your hero character will see the world, how it sees you and sets the tone for the entire story.
- Travel across the vast and varied lands of Ferelden; from the conspiratorial halls of the last great dwarven city, Orzammar, to the untamed snarls of the Korcari Wilds.
- Dragon Age: Origins will give you deep character customization options including: class, race, appearance, abilities, and equipment.
- At the heart of the storm sweeping across Ferelden. Decide the fate of nations, people and, ultimately, yourself. Just remember: for every choice, there is a consequence.
The plan to publish work after reaching the target is therefore best understood as an intention subject to development progress, not a release schedule. The update does not specify a guaranteed publication date or a finished-build timetable.
What a future public release would—and would not—include
The developer said the project would not distribute the original game’s assets or a compiled executable. The stated plan is to publish reconstructed code for users to compile themselves. That makes this different from a conventional remaster with refreshed art, or a self-contained new copy of the game.

EA’s PC manual documents Dragon Age: Origins as an existing PC role-playing game. However, the project update does not establish which edition or files a future build would support, what users would need to compile it, or how installation would work. A future code release should not be assumed to include the original game or to work with every edition.

- Not a confirmed EA/BioWare release: the 2027 timeframe concerns a community code project, not an announced commercial edition.
- Not a confirmed remaster: the developer said original assets and a compiled executable would not be distributed.
- Features remain uncertain: the listed compatibility and multiplayer ideas are aims or possibilities, not finished-build commitments.
- Requirements are not yet established: supported editions, required game files, compiling steps, and installation details have not been specified in the cited project update.
For current developments, look for further updates from the project itself. A new project post, repository, or build could clarify progress and requirements; an EA or BioWare announcement would be needed to establish an official commercial release.
