It tests how well you can configure Azure Databricks, govern data with Unity Catalog, prepare and process data, and deploy and operate data pipelines. Microsoft assigns the largest published weight ranges to data preparation and pipeline deployment and maintenance, so those are sensible priorities when planning your study.
What the DP-750 certification covers
Microsoft describes the role as integrating and modeling data, building and deploying optimized pipelines, and troubleshooting and maintaining Azure Databricks workloads. Its expected background includes practical work with Unity Catalog data quality and governance, as well as SQL, Python, Git, Microsoft Entra, Azure Data Factory, and Azure Monitor.

What to study in each domain
1. Set up and configure an Azure Databricks environment
Be ready to choose appropriate compute for a scenario, including job compute, serverless, SQL warehouses, classic compute, and shared compute. Review performance and cost settings such as CPU, node count, autoscaling, auto-termination, node type, cluster sizing, and pooling. Know where Photon, Databricks Runtime or Spark versions, and machine-learning features fit, along with library installation and compute permissions.
For Unity Catalog setup, study how catalogs, schemas, volumes, tables, views, materialized views, and foreign catalogs are named and organized. The guide also includes managed versus external table DDL and AI/BI Genie instructions.
Rank #2
2. Secure and govern Unity Catalog objects
Study how to grant privileges to users, groups, and service principals, including table- and column-level access and row-level security. Be able to reason about Azure Key Vault secrets and authentication using service principals or managed identities.
Governance objectives extend beyond permissions: review descriptions and definitions that support data discovery, tag- and policy-based attribute-based access control (ABAC), row filters, column masks, retention, lineage, audit logging, and secure Delta Sharing strategies.
Rank #3
3. Prepare and process data
This is one of the two largest domains by published weight. Review how to choose sources and extraction approaches, and when to use ingestion options such as Lakeflow Connect, notebooks, or Azure Data Factory. Prepare for both batch and streaming workflows, and know the trade-offs among Parquet, Delta, CSV, JSON, and Iceberg formats.
Data modeling and loading topics include granularity, temporal history, slowly changing dimension (SCD) types, partitioning, liquid clustering, Z-ordering, and merge, insert, or append patterns. Expect to reason about data validation and quality checks—such as nullability, cardinality, ranges, and types—as well as schema enforcement, schema drift, and Lakeflow Spark Declarative Pipelines expectations.

4. Deploy and maintain data pipelines and workloads
This domain is also among the largest by published weight. Cover pipeline ordering and error handling, and when a workflow calls for notebooks versus Lakeflow Spark Declarative Pipelines. For Lakeflow Jobs, review task logic and setup, triggers and schedules, alerts, and restart behavior.
For software delivery, study Git workflows, branching, pull requests, conflict resolution, testing levels, Declarative Automation Bundles, and CLI or API deployment. For operations, prepare to investigate consumption and cost, repair or restart jobs, and identify Spark resource bottlenecks. Know how DAGs, the Spark UI, and query profiles can help investigate caching, skew, spill, and shuffle; review Delta OPTIMIZE and VACUUM, log streaming to Log Analytics, and Azure Monitor alerts.

A practical way to plan your study
- Start with the two 30–35% domains. Work through data preparation and pipeline operations first, using the official objective list to identify unfamiliar areas. This prioritization follows the published weights; it does not imply a particular question count.
- Build out configuration and governance knowledge. Practice matching compute and security choices to a workload, and connect Unity Catalog permissions and policies to the data objects they protect.
- Use hands-on work to test understanding. Microsoft recommends training and practical experience. Where possible, practice the workflows named in the objectives—such as configuring compute, managing access, building or deploying pipelines, and diagnosing workload behavior.
- Check your readiness against the official materials. Use the study guide as a checklist, then try Microsoft’s practice assessment and exam sandbox to become familiar with the assessment experience.

Which DP-750 study guide applies to your exam date?
As of October 4, 2026, Microsoft’s certification page says the English version will be updated on October 19, 2026; that announced update date is still in the future. If you plan to take the exam on or after October 19, check the official study guide again and prepare against the version then in effect rather than assuming the current objectives will remain unchanged.
