Yes—but the confirmed headset-VR release is ZONE OF THE ENDERS: The 2nd RUNNER – M∀RS. The original Zone of the Enders, the original 2003 The 2nd Runner, and the 2012 Zone of the Enders HD Collection are separate releases; the official information available for those editions does not establish headset-VR support. The short answer: buy M∀RS if you want headset VR
The name to look for is ZONE OF THE ENDERS: The 2nd RUNNER – M∀RS. It is not simply a re-release label for every game in the series. M∀RS is the later remaster that adds the series’ confirmed headset-VR mode. Konami identifies it as a complete VR remaster, while the PlayStation Store and Steam listings describe VR support for their respective versions.

That distinction matters because several products use similar wording. The first Zone of the Enders game and the original The 2nd Runner are older releases. The 2012 Zone of the Enders HD Collection packages those two games but is not the M∀RS edition. The official product information for the collection lists PS3 and Xbox 360, not a headset-VR mode.

For a current buying or setup decision, identify the exact subtitle first. If the listing does not say M∀RS, do not assume that it includes the cockpit-based VR experience.

The table separates what is documented from what is merely suggested by a similar title. A collection containing a game that was later remastered does not automatically inherit the remaster’s features.

Konami describes the enhanced VR gameplay as first person from inside Jehuty’s cockpit. In practical terms, VR is not just a virtual screen showing a conventional third-person game: the published description places you in the machine itself. That cockpit perspective is the defining difference between M∀RS and the earlier releases.
The complete campaign is playable in VR
M∀RS is advertised as allowing the full game to be played in VR. This is broader than a short demonstration, menu viewer or isolated mission. Konami’s launch announcement dated 15 May 2018 states: “Players will be immersed in exhilarating high-speed mech-action combat all in third-person 4K or experience the full game for the first time in VR.” The sentence also clarifies that the same release supports a conventional third-person 4K presentation, so VR is an option rather than a requirement.

These additions are tied to M∀RS. They should not be inferred for the HD Collection or the original releases simply because those products contain related story material.
How VR support differs by platform
PS4 with PlayStation VR
Konami lists M∀RS for PS4 and explicitly associates the release with PlayStation VR. The PlayStation Store listing likewise identifies VR support. To use this version’s headset mode, you need the PS4 edition of M∀RS, a compatible PlayStation VR setup and the usual PS4 hardware required to run the game. The key software check is the title itself: a PS3 or Xbox 360 copy of the HD Collection is not the PS4 M∀RS release.
The confirmed wording is “PlayStation VR,” meaning the evidence establishes the original PSVR platform. It does not establish that every later PlayStation headset works with the game.

Konami lists a PC/Steam version, and Steam’s product listing describes VR support. The practical implication is that the PC edition is the one to inspect when you want a headset-VR installation on a computer. Check the current Steam system requirements and supported-headset information on the live listing before installing, because hardware requirements and compatibility notices can change independently of the game’s original 2018 announcement.

Do not treat a non-Steam PC listing, a video of the game, or a standard monitor mode as proof that a particular copy includes VR. The documented PC route is the M∀RS release on Steam.
What is known about PSVR2
The cited Konami, PlayStation Store and Steam information confirms PS4/PlayStation VR and PC/Steam VR. It does not confirm PSVR2 compatibility. Therefore, a reader should not purchase M∀RS on the assumption that a PSVR2 headset will run it natively or automatically. Look for a current, explicit compatibility statement from the publisher or platform holder if PSVR2 support is essential to your decision.
Why the original games and HD Collection are easy to confuse with M∀RS
The original The 2nd Runner
The original ZONE OF THE ENDERS: The 2nd RUNNER is the game that was later remastered as M∀RS. That relationship explains the similar name, but it does not make the two editions interchangeable. The original release predates the VR remaster and has no headset-VR support identified in the official information cited here.
The 2012 HD Collection
Konami’s HD Collection page lists PS3 and Xbox 360 and gives 30 November 2012 as the European release date. It contains both the original Zone of the Enders and The 2nd Runner. Because the collection includes the same underlying series entries that M∀RS revisits, store searches can produce misleadingly similar results. Its platform list and product identity are the reliable differentiators: PS3/Xbox 360 HD Collection is not PS4/PlayStation VR or PC/Steam M∀RS.

The reviewed official information does not identify a headset-VR mode for the collection. That is a narrower and more accurate conclusion than claiming that every possible emulator, unofficial modification or display accessory can never produce a VR-like image; those possibilities are outside the documented product support.
How to verify that a listing is the VR edition
Use this checklist before buying, downloading or troubleshooting:
- Read the complete title. It should say ZONE OF THE ENDERS: The 2nd RUNNER – M∀RS. The “M∀RS” subtitle is the decisive identifier.
- Confirm the platform. For the documented console route, look for PS4 and PlayStation VR. For PC, look for the Steam edition and its VR description.
- Reject collection-only listings. “HD Collection,” PS3 and Xbox 360 identify the older package, not the VR remaster.
- Check the mode description. A valid M∀RS listing should describe VR support or the ability to play the full game in VR, not merely high-definition graphics or a standard third-person mode.
- Check headset compatibility separately. Platform support for PSVR or PC VR does not, by itself, prove PSVR2 support.
- Use the live store page for current requirements. Prices, stock, system requirements and platform policies are changeable details and are not established by the 2018 announcement.
Understanding M∀RS’s two presentation choices
M∀RS supports two fundamentally different ways to experience the game. The first is conventional third-person play, which Konami describes as 4K. The second is the full-game VR mode, presented from inside Jehuty’s cockpit. A player can therefore choose the remaster for its visual upgrade without owning a headset, while a headset owner can use the release’s defining VR feature.
This also explains why a screenshot or ordinary gameplay video may not look like VR. Third-person 4K footage represents one supported mode, not evidence that VR is absent. Conversely, a headset icon on a store page should be checked against the exact M∀RS edition rather than applied to the older games.

- Established: M∀RS is the confirmed headset-VR version; Konami lists PS4, PlayStation VR, PC and Steam; the PlayStation Store and Steam listings describe VR support.
- Established: VR places the player in a first-person cockpit view and covers the full game, with additional hangar, model-viewer and post-completion theater content.
- Established: the HD Collection is a PS3/Xbox 360 product released in Europe on 30 November 2012.
- Not established: headset-VR support for the original games or the HD Collection.
- Not established: PSVR2 compatibility for M∀RS.

Bottom line for each type of player
You want the series in VR
Choose The 2nd Runner – M∀RS and match the edition to your hardware: PS4 with the documented PlayStation VR route, or PC through Steam. The release is the one that officially supports the complete game in headset VR.
You own the HD Collection
Your PS3 or Xbox 360 collection copy is not the documented VR edition. Owning it does not provide the M∀RS cockpit mode or its VR-only hangar, model viewer and cinematic theater.
You have PSVR2
Do not assume compatibility from the PS4 or PlayStation VR listing. Seek a current explicit PSVR2 statement before treating M∀RS as supported on that headset.
