Computer livestreaming is an intermediate feature, unlocked through phone verification. You still need a verified channel with no livestreaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16. An always-on schedule does not change those stated prerequisites.
Which YouTube feature tier do you need?
YouTube separates intermediate features from advanced features. Its feature-access table places live streaming on a computer in the intermediate tier, which requires phone verification. Advanced access is a separate tier; it is not the ordinary entry condition for starting a computer-based livestream.

That distinction matters if you are planning a continuous broadcast: “always-on” describes how you intend to operate the stream, not a separate access tier in YouTube’s feature table. The official guidance reviewed does not specify a separate advanced-feature requirement for continuous streams, define a maximum duration for them, or guarantee that a stream will remain uninterrupted.
What YouTube requires before you can go live
- Verify your channel. YouTube’s general livestream guidance requires a verified channel.
- Have no livestreaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. This is YouTube’s stated lookback period; a restriction can prevent livestreaming even if other features are enabled.
- Meet the minimum age. YouTube says a person must be at least 16 to livestream.
- Allow for first-time activation. Enabling livestreaming for the first time can take up to 24 hours, so do not leave activation until just before your planned start.
These are account and eligibility conditions, not equipment requirements. YouTube supports livestreaming through several methods, including mobile, webcam, encoder, and console. The method you choose does not replace channel verification or change your feature eligibility.

- The Google TV Streamer (4K) delivers your favorite entertainment quickly, easily, and personalized to you[1,2]
- HDMI 2.1 cable required (sold separately)
- See movies and TV shows from all your services right from your home screen[2]; and find new things to watch with tailored recommendations for everyone in your home based on their interests and viewing habits
- Watch live TV and access over 800 free channels from Pluto TV, Tubi, and more[3]; if you find an interesting show or movie on your TV, mobile app, or Google search, you can easily add it to your watchlist, so it’s ready when you are[2]
- Up to 4K HDR with Dolby Vision delivers captivating, true-to-life detail[4]; and you can connect speakers that support Dolby Atmos for more immersive 3D sound
Check your channel’s access in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio.
- Go to Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility.
- Review the access shown for intermediate and advanced features. Confirm that computer livestreaming is enabled before planning the broadcast.
- If you are enabling livestreaming for the first time, allow up to 24 hours for activation before your intended start.
YouTube’s feature table also shows higher daily limits at advanced access. So while advanced features are not the usual prerequisite for computer livestreaming, your channel’s access tier can still affect limits. Check the eligibility information shown for your own channel rather than assuming every account has identical allowances.
When advanced features may still matter
You may need advanced access for a separate feature even when you can already go live. For example, YouTube lists embedding live streams under advanced features. If your plan depends on embedding a broadcast, check that feature’s eligibility separately; the ability to stream from a computer does not itself establish that embedding is available.

After phone verification, YouTube says creators can qualify for advanced access by building sufficient channel history or, when offered, completing ID or video verification. Identity verification must be completed by the primary channel owner. Feature eligibility can also be affected by policy compliance and channel history, and livestreaming restrictions can temporarily or permanently disable the ability to stream.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Do you need an encoder—or special hardware?
No encoder unlocks account features. An encoder is simply one way to send a broadcast to YouTube; account eligibility is a separate matter. YouTube supports software and standalone hardware encoders, but says expensive equipment is not necessary to get started. Choose an encoder only if its production workflow suits your content, not as a workaround for verification or advanced access.

For an encoder-based event, YouTube recommends setting up the encoder in advance, previewing and monitoring the stream, and testing failover. Its live-streaming tips recommend setting up at least two hours before an event and starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before it. Those are event-planning recommendations, not a guarantee of uninterrupted 24/7 operation.
Plan an always-on stream without confusing access and uptime
First confirm that your channel is eligible to livestream. Then choose the production method that fits your content and decide how you will monitor the broadcast and respond if it stops. YouTube’s published requirements establish whether you can go live; they do not promise continuous uptime or set out a special 24/7 approval process. Recheck the current setup guidance and your Studio eligibility before launch.
