Some Samsung Galaxy phones can receive FM radio over the air, but the feature is not available on every model or regional variant. Samsung publishes specific model-code examples rather than a complete global compatibility list, so check the exact phone variant and its Radio app before buying. On supported phones, wired earphones usually provide the antenna; the cable may need to stay connected even when audio plays through the phone speaker.
Which Samsung phones are documented to support FM radio?
Samsung’s Galaxy FM Radio SDK FAQ lists these model codes as examples of phones with FM-radio hardware:

The FAQ follows that list with “and so on,” but does not define the additional models or present an exhaustive retail compatibility chart. These codes are useful leads, not proof that every phone in the same Galaxy family—or every regional version of a listed family—has FM enabled. Samsung says its FM Radio SDK requires both FM hardware and Android 10 (Android Q) or later; that is the SDK’s requirement, not a universal minimum Android version for every way of listening to FM.
How can you check whether your Galaxy has FM?
- Find the complete model code. Ask the seller or check the phone’s About phone settings. A family name such as Galaxy S or Galaxy A is not specific enough.
- Check support for the exact market and variant. Look for confirmation from Samsung for that model code and sales region. An imported device may differ from a version sold locally.
- Confirm the Radio app is available. Check whether the built-in app is installed or supported on that specific phone. An internet-radio app does not establish that the phone has an FM tuner.
- Check the wired-earphone connection. Determine whether the phone has a 3.5 mm headphone jack or needs compatible USB-C earphones, and verify compatibility before buying a headset.
Samsung’s public materials do not establish a universal guarantee across regional variants. In Brazil, Anatel’s FM-reception page describes models homologated by the regulator whose manufacturers report FM reception enabled; its list is marked updated October 2025. Use the market-specific information relevant to the device you are considering.

Does Samsung FM radio work without internet?
Yes, on a phone with supported FM hardware and software, FM radio receives local broadcast signals over the air; it does not need a mobile-data or Wi-Fi connection or streaming bandwidth. That is different from an internet-radio app, which streams audio through a network. Samsung also notes that local broadcasters may carry public-service alerts. See the Galaxy FM Radio SDK overview.
Do you need wired earphones to listen?
Usually, yes. Samsung says the earphone cable functions as the radio antenna. A supported phone with a 3.5 mm jack can use compatible wired earphones. If the phone has no headphone jack, compatible USB-C earphones may work; Samsung recommends its own USB-C earphones and warns that some third-party USB-C earphones may not work. USB-C alone does not guarantee compatibility.

On supported devices, you may be able to route the sound through the phone speaker while keeping the earphones connected as the antenna. Samsung’s Korean Galaxy FM-radio instructions, dated July 1, 2024, describe this arrangement.

On a confirmed supported phone, open the Radio app, connect compatible wired earphones and use the app to scan for or tune available stations. Samsung’s Galaxy A52 5G instructions for China describe launching the Radio app, connecting earphones and scanning and saving stations. That country-specific support article was last updated June 2, 2021; it does not establish that every A52 5G variant worldwide has FM.

- No Radio app: Check Samsung’s support information for the exact model code and sales region. A streaming-radio app is not a substitute for evidence of an FM tuner.
- No reception: Confirm that the specific variant supports FM, connect wired earphones so the cable can act as an antenna, and check that the earphones are compatible.
- USB-C earphones do not work: Try a compatible model; Samsung warns that some third-party USB-C earphones may not function for FM reception.
- You want speaker audio: Look for a speaker-output option in the Radio app, but leave the earphones connected if the phone needs their cable as its antenna.
App labels and navigation can differ by phone, software and app version.
