Warren Buffett said in a CNBC interview on February 24, 2020, that he did not own Bitcoin or any cryptocurrency and added, “I never will.” That is his public answer at the time—not independent verification of his private holdings today.

What Warren Buffett said about owning crypto

In CNBC’s February 24, 2020 interview, Buffett said, “I don’t have any Bitcoin.” He also said, “I don’t own any cryptocurrency. I never will.” These are Buffett’s statements from that interview; the remark about what he would do in the future expresses his intent at the time, not a current audit of his assets. Does Berkshire Hathaway own crypto?

Buffett’s personal holdings and Berkshire Hathaway’s corporate holdings are separate questions. In the same 2020 interview, Buffett said, “But none of our companies are doing business in Bitcoin or anything.” That describes what he said about Berkshire companies then, not necessarily their activity in later years. Berkshire Hathaway’s 2025 Form 10-K is a corporate filing about the company, which it identifies as a diversified holding company. It is not a statement of Buffett’s personal wallet or private assets, and it does not by itself establish whether he personally owns cryptocurrency. Berkshire Hathaway’s 2025 Form 10-K

What can be concluded today?

The clearest supported answer is that Buffett publicly said in 2020 that he did not own Bitcoin or cryptocurrency and did not intend to own it. The sources cited here do not independently verify his private holdings as of October 7, 2026. Nor does an investment by Berkshire in a company or financial business with digital-asset connections, by itself, show that Buffett personally owns crypto or that Berkshire owns a cryptocurrency.
