Walmart’s Wi-Fi terms describe complimentary wireless access for customers and other eligible users at facilities where the service is available. Availability, setup and performance can vary by location, and Walmart does not guarantee service at every store or a particular speed or signal.
Is Walmart Wi-Fi free?
Walmart says it provides the service on a complimentary basis. Your mobile carrier or another provider that supports your device may still charge you under your own service plan, so using Wi-Fi does not necessarily eliminate every connectivity cost. See Walmart’s Wi-Fi Terms of Use.

No store-by-store availability is guaranteed in the terms, and Walmart’s reviewed customer FAQ does not publish a location-by-location Wi-Fi status list. Walmart says access is subject to availability and operational limits; service may be interrupted temporarily or permanently. It does not promise a particular speed, bandwidth, signal strength or range.

What should you know about privacy and public Wi-Fi?
Walmart’s terms say it may receive device identifiers, including MAC and IP addresses, and real-time location while a device accesses the service. The stated purposes include service delivery, troubleshooting, security, administration and compliance. The terms also advise users to understand the risks of sending information over public communication channels, including unsecured Wi-Fi. They do not establish that every transmission is unencrypted or describe every technical security setting.
Walmart’s Customer Privacy Notice, updated August 20, 2026, says the company may recognize a mobile device’s location in U.S. and Puerto Rico stores where free Wi-Fi is provided, or through Bluetooth. Precise geolocation collection can depend on device settings and consent; the notice describes controls for location sharing and Bluetooth in those settings.

Should you use Wi-Fi or mobile data?
There is no published Walmart customer Wi-Fi speed or coverage statistic in the cited official sources, so there is no basis here to say that Wi-Fi is faster or safer than your mobile connection. Choose based on whether Wi-Fi is available at your location, how reliable your connection needs to be, your privacy settings and whether your mobile plan may charge for data. A separate hotspot is another connectivity option if you have an eligible cellular plan and coverage; it is not required to use Walmart’s complimentary Wi-Fi.
