Sometimes—but moving to a VPS does not automatically make a website faster. It can help when shared-hosting limits are the bottleneck and the VPS has enough resources and is configured well. If slow code, database queries, missing caching, large images, or distant visitors are the real cause, changing hosting alone may not fix the delay.
What a VPS can—and cannot—speed up
A VPS gives a site a virtual server environment with resources allocated to it. That can reduce the effect of other customers competing for shared infrastructure and offer more control over server settings. The result depends on the VPS’s resources, configuration, workload, and location; there is no guaranteed speed increase.
Page response time is the combined result of server work, network latency, and the sequence of services involved in a request. The WordPress Hosting Handbook describes this as the combined latency of services used as a web application loads. A VPS only addresses the parts affected by the hosting environment.
Find the bottleneck before changing plans
TTFB, or time to first byte, measures how long a browser waits for the first response from a server. A high TTFB is a useful symptom to investigate, but it does not by itself prove that the host is responsible. OVHcloud notes that a CMS may need to run PHP, query a database, or complete other work before it can return a page; heavy queries can raise TTFB even when the hosting plan is not the cause.
#1 Best Overall
- Durable Carbon Steel: Rack mount screws and cage nuts are made of high-quality carbon steel with a black finish for high strength and dependable durability.
- Easy Installation: Clear metric threads and uniform pitch for better grip. Nylon washers help secure screws and protect equipment surfaces.
- Organized Storage: All parts are packed in a portable storage box for easy organization and access.
- Wide Compatibility: Fits most square-hole racks and cabinets—ideal for server racks, network cabinets, equipment enclosures, and A/V gear.
- 20-Set Kit: Includes 20 mounting screws with nylon washers (M6 x 20 mm) and 20 square cage nuts—40 pieces in total—meeting daily install and replacement needs.
OVHcloud’s support guide says most delays it encounters are caused by the website rather than shared hosting. That is the provider’s characterization of its support experience, not an industry-wide statistic. The same guide identifies overloaded shared infrastructure and requests that take too long or do too much work as possible causes. Its conditional statement that TTFB does not exceed 800 ms applies only when its shared infrastructure is not overloaded and the website is optimized; it is not a universal target or a comparison with VPS hosting.
Use a simple file as a control
- Test the slow page and a simple independent file on the same site. If the simple file responds quickly but specific pages do not, investigate the page’s scripts, database work, plugins, and external services before blaming the hosting plan.
- Repeat the test from another device or internet connection. This can help distinguish a local connection or device issue from a delay that follows the site.
- Check your host’s incident or status information, then review application and server logs for errors, slow requests, or resource limits.
- Inspect PHP version and runtime, database queries, outgoing API requests, image sizes, and caching. A slow plugin, unoptimized query, oversized image, or delayed external API will not be fixed simply by moving to a VPS.
Optimize repeat work and delivery first
Cache public pages where appropriate
Caching reuses previously computed results instead of repeating expensive work for every page view, as explained in the WordPress Hosting Handbook. Full-page caching can serve a saved page without running PHP or querying the database for each request. Browser or server caching can also reduce repeated delivery of static files.

- Versatile Compatibility - The M6 rack mounting screw kit is designed for universal compatibility with most rack and cabinet systems with square holes. It is perfect for mounting 19 inch / 10 inch network cabinet, server cabinets, electronics enclosures, racks, shelf
- Length of M6 screws - The total length of the M6 screw is 19.7 mm (0.77 inches), the thread length - nominal length of the M6 screw is 16 mm (0.63 inches)
- Robust construction - These M6 screws and cage nuts are made of high-quality carbon steel and offer exceptional strength, corrosion resistance and durability, ensuring long-term performance even in extreme conditions
- Complete installation kit - Each pack contains 20 rack mounting screws, 20 square cage nuts and 20 washer plastic and provides a comprehensive solution for all your mounting needs and ensures you have enough material for different projects
- Effortless and efficient installation - With precise threads and a smooth design, these M6 screws allow easy insertion and secure attachment, optimise the installation process and improve work efficiency
For WordPress, public pages may be suitable for full-page caching, but personalized pages need careful exclusions. Cart, checkout, and account/profile pages can contain visitor-specific information; serving a cached version to the wrong visitor can be incorrect. Set cache expiry and purge rules so changes appear when expected.
Use a CDN for geographic distance, not as a cure-all
A content delivery network can serve static content from an endpoint nearer to a visitor, reducing some network latency. But if the CDN does not cache a page at the edge, it still has to fetch that page from the origin server—and the extra hop can increase TTFB. Dynamic or personalized pages need a caching strategy designed for their behavior; simply enabling a CDN does not guarantee faster origin-generated pages.

When a VPS is worth considering
Consider a VPS when measurements and logs point to hosting constraints, the current service no longer meets the site’s needs, and optimization has not resolved the issue. OVHcloud’s slow-website diagnostic guide likewise suggests considering VPS or dedicated infrastructure if a service remains slow after diagnostic and optimization steps.
Before choosing a plan, compare it against the site’s actual workload and audience rather than relying on the label “VPS.” Relevant factors include:

- Threaded hole hardware kit - 50 each #12-24 screws
- Fastens equipment to threaded hole rack mount rails
- Compatible with all #12-24 threaded hole racks
- CPU and memory available for dynamic requests and concurrent visitors.
- Storage performance and I/O, which can affect database and file operations.
- Server location relative to the people visiting the site.
- Available caching options and how they fit the site’s pages.
- Management, maintenance, and support: a VPS may require more server configuration and operational skill than a managed shared plan.
- Measured response time for the same site and workload, not an unrelated provider’s marketing claim.
The cited official sources do not provide a controlled, head-to-head benchmark showing how much faster a VPS is than shared hosting. Nor does OVHcloud’s statement that its PHP-FPM engine can be “up to 50 times more efficient” than PHP CGI establish that a website will load 50 times faster; it concerns task efficiency under the provider’s stated conditions, not end-user page speed.
