It depends on which Verizon Stream TV model you have. The second-generation device requires Wi-Fi for setup and internet streaming; the original model can connect through supported wired networking instead. You do not need Verizon home internet for general streaming, but Verizon wireless or Fios Internet service is required to buy or rent Verizon video-on-demand titles.

The connection options differ by generation, so identify the hardware before choosing a setup method.

- Original generation: An Ethernet port on the back identifies this model. Verizon provides a wired setup path for it, so Wi-Fi is not required if you connect it to the internet through a supported wired connection. See Verizon’s wired setup instructions.
Do not assume an Ethernet accessory can add wired networking to the second-generation device: Verizon says that model has no wired internet connectivity.

No. Verizon says Stream TV works with almost any internet service, so a Verizon home internet subscription is not a general requirement for streaming apps. Verizon wireless or Fios Internet service is specifically required to purchase or rent Verizon VOD titles. Those account requirements are separate from the device’s internet connection. Verizon’s FAQ lists Netflix, YouTube TV and Disney+ as examples of services available through the device. App availability can change, so check the current lineup if access to a particular app matters to you.
What you need to set up Stream TV
- A TV or monitor with an HDMI connection.
- A working internet connection: Wi-Fi for second-generation Stream TV, or Wi-Fi or supported wired networking for the original model.
- A Google account for the second-generation setup described by Verizon.

Connect the device to Wi-Fi or Ethernet
Second-generation Stream TV: Wi-Fi setup
- Connect the Stream TV to your display with HDMI and connect it to power.
- Follow the on-screen setup and select your Wi-Fi network.
- Enter the network password, or use the Android phone setup option described in Verizon’s setup guide.
- Sign in with a Google account when prompted.
If your Wi-Fi network uses host isolation, as some guest networks do, Verizon directs users to sign in with the remote rather than a phone or computer. This changes the sign-in method; it does not eliminate the need for an internet connection. Verizon’s setup instructions

If your original device has an Ethernet port on its back, use Verizon’s wired setup flow to connect it over Ethernet. Verizon also documents a Stream TV MoCA Ethernet Adapter for connecting Stream TV to a MoCA-capable router over coax or Ethernet. Its 2021 adapter guide describes it as designed for Verizon Stream TV. Check your device generation and network equipment before choosing this accessory; it is not a general workaround for second-generation hardware.

If Wi-Fi setup or sign-in fails
- Confirm that the second-generation device is connected to the intended Wi-Fi network and that the password is correct.
- If account sign-in through a phone or computer fails on a guest network, try the remote sign-in method Verizon specifies for host-isolated networks.
- If you need a wired connection, verify that the device is the original generation with a rear Ethernet port. Verizon does not support wired internet connectivity on the second generation.
These checks address different problems: a wrong network or password prevents internet access, while host isolation can affect how account sign-in works.
