There is no verified evidence that turning off USB4 power management raises active transfer speeds from 500 Mbps to 2,400 Mbps. Microsoft describes USB4 power management as a way to put routers to sleep when tunneled devices are idle; its documentation does not say that disabling the feature makes file transfers faster. The figures in the original claim should be treated as an unverified personal result, not a general USB4 fix.
What USB4 power management is designed to do
USB4 power management concerns the connection’s low-power behavior, especially when tunneled devices are idle. Microsoft says USB4 host routers must support sleep entry and exit, and that tunneled protocols let the connection manager initiate sleep when those devices are idle. Windows can also identify and manage the power state of an associated USB4 host router through ACPI port mapping. Microsoft’s USB4 power-management requirements describe idle-state management, not a reduction in throughput during an active file copy.

In Windows 11, the USB4 connection manager handles the USB4 domain, including bandwidth and power-state management. Microsoft says its operating-system-provided connection-manager drivers are required starting with Windows 11. Microsoft’s connection-manager documentation explains that role; it does not establish that disabling power management improves transfer performance.
What the 500-to-2,400 Mbps claim does—and does not—show
The reported change from 500 Mbps to 2,400 Mbps has not been independently verified, and the exact test setup is unknown. There is no established information here about the host computer, USB4 controller, drive or enclosure, Windows build, setting changed, benchmark, file workload, or repeated results. Without those details, the figures cannot show that USB4 power management caused the slower result.

Keep the units exactly as reported: Mbps means megabits per second. Do not treat the claim as MB/s, or compare it directly with a benchmark that reports megabytes per second. The units and measurement conditions must be confirmed before drawing conclusions.
USB4 link-rate figures are not the same as real-world storage-copy speeds. Microsoft says up to 90 percent of a USB4 link’s bandwidth may be explicitly allocated to specified tunneled traffic, including USB 3.x isochronous, PCIe, and DisplayPort traffic. Its examples give 10, 20, and 40 Gbps link rates and corresponding 90-percent allocations of 9, 18, and 36 Gbps. These are link and allocation figures—not promised SSD throughput or evidence for the 500-to-2,400 Mbps result. Microsoft’s USB4 design details do not identify a publication year in the page material reviewed.

Check the USB4 connection before changing power settings
A slow USB4 SSD or enclosure can reflect a connection that is not operating as intended. Microsoft identifies a non-USB4 host port, an unsupported cable, and a non-USB4 dock as possible causes of limited functionality. These are compatibility checks, not proof of what caused the reported result.
- Confirm that the computer’s port supports USB4; a USB-C connector alone does not establish that it does.
- Use the cable supplied with the USB4 device or a certified USB4 cable.
- Connect the device directly to the USB4 port, or use a USB4 dock.
- Check the device and its enclosure specifications to confirm they support the intended USB4 connection.

How to test whether a setting actually changes your result
If you want to investigate a slow USB4 transfer, change one variable at a time and compare repeatable measurements. This method can help identify a correlation on your own system; it does not establish that the same setting will help other computers.
- Record the exact power-management setting and where you changed it. Avoid changing unrelated settings during the comparison.
- Keep the host computer and USB4 port, drive and enclosure, cable, file set and size, benchmark and settings, operating-system build, power source, and background activity the same.
- Run the same workload several times with the original setting, then repeat with the changed setting.
- Record the displayed units exactly—such as Mbps or MB/s—and report the range or median, rather than choosing the best run.
A community discussion about an ASM2464PD M.2 enclosure mentions Windows USB4/TB4 behavior and connection instability, but it is not independent confirmation of this power-management claim. One participant attributes a change in their own reported write speed to enabling device write caching—a different setting—with mixed unit capitalization in the post. It cannot verify the figures or cause in the claim discussed here. Read the community discussion.
