Does TP-Link Support Wi-Fi 6? Compatible Routers and What to Check

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Yes. TP-Link sells Wi-Fi 6 routers, including the Archer AX55, AX73, AX90 and AX12 in its US lineup. To confirm a particular router, check its exact model and hardware revision on TP-Link’s support page: features and availability can differ by region and revision.

Which TP-Link routers support Wi-Fi 6?

TP-Link identifies these examples in its US product listing. Their AX labels describe product classes, not a guarantee that every model has the same features or performance.

Model US product-list label Band configuration
Archer AX55 AX3000 Dual-band
Archer AX73 AX5400 Dual-band
Archer AX90 AX6600 Tri-band
Archer AX12 AX1500 Not stated in the cited product listing

These are TP-Link’s advertised product labels, not independent speed-test results. The list is specific to the US; availability and specifications may differ elsewhere. Check the product page for your country and the hardware version shown on your router. TP-Link US Wi-Fi router products

What Wi-Fi 6 means for your devices

Wi-Fi 6 is the common name for the 802.11ax wireless generation. A Wi-Fi 6 router can provide that connection standard, but a device also needs Wi-Fi 6 capability to connect using it. Older Wi-Fi devices can still connect to a compatible router, but they will not gain Wi-Fi 6 capabilities just because the router supports the newer standard.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

TP-Link describes features including OFDMA and MU-MIMO as ways a router can serve multiple devices. These are manufacturer descriptions, not a promise of a particular speed or improvement in an individual home. A client device must also support the relevant feature for it to be used. Wi-Fi 6 does not automatically mean WPA3

Wi-Fi 6 is a wireless networking standard; WPA3 is a security protocol. Check WPA3 support separately for both your router and the devices you want to connect. TP-Link’s guidance says both ends need WPA3 support for a WPA3-protected connection. On supported products, WPA3/WPA2 mixed mode can accommodate clients with different security capabilities. How to check a specific TP-Link router

  1. Find the full model number and hardware version on the router’s label or in its administration interface.
  2. Open TP-Link Support and search by model or keyword.
  3. Open the matching regional product or support page and verify the hardware version, Wi-Fi standard, and features listed for that specific unit.
  4. If WPA3 is the concern, check the model’s security specifications separately; Wi-Fi 6 support alone does not confirm WPA3 support.

TP-Link’s support hub provides model search, downloads, FAQs and compatibility resources. Make sure the result matches the router’s complete model and hardware version rather than relying only on a similar model name. TP-Link Support

Can a firmware update turn an older TP-Link router into Wi-Fi 6?

Do not assume so. Firmware and compatibility information is model-specific, and the cited TP-Link materials do not establish that an older Wi-Fi 5 router can acquire Wi-Fi 6 through an update. Check the support page for the exact model and hardware revision; an update can only provide features TP-Link supports for that unit.

How to choose among TP-Link Wi-Fi 6 routers

Start with what your home and devices need, not the AX number alone. Compare the exact regional specification and consider:

  • Band configuration: whether you need a dual-band or tri-band router.
  • Wired connections: the number and types of Ethernet ports required for your devices.
  • Coverage: whether the router suits your home or you need a mesh setup.
  • Client compatibility: whether your phones, computers and other devices support Wi-Fi 6 and any particular feature you want to use.
  • Security: whether the exact router and client devices support WPA3 if that protection is required.

TP-Link’s listed models differ in class and band configuration, but those product labels do not establish a universal best choice or a fixed speed increase. Actual results depend on the router, client devices, internet service, placement, interference and home environment.
