Most current phones can send content to a TV or display, but whether yours can mirror its entire screen depends on both the phone and the receiving device. iPhones use AirPlay with compatible TVs, Apple TV, or Mac; supported Android phones can use Google Cast; and some Samsung Galaxy phones and TVs support Smart View. Check both model names before assuming they work together.
Screen mirroring or casting: what do you need?
Screen mirroring duplicates the phone’s display on another screen, including menus and anything else visible on the phone. App casting sends supported video or other media from an app to a receiver; it is a separate workflow and can leave the phone available for other tasks. Apple distinguishes mirroring from streaming supported video over AirPlay, while Google documents both casting media from compatible apps and casting an Android screen. Apple’s AirPlay instructions and Google’s Cast-enabled app instructions explain the difference.

If you only want to play a video, look for the AirPlay or Cast control inside the video app first. App support varies; some video apps do not support AirPlay, and the ability to cast media does not guarantee that a phone can mirror its entire screen to every receiver.

How Samsung Galaxy Smart View works
Samsung describes Smart View as one way supported Galaxy devices can show a phone screen on a Samsung TV. The exact feature set depends on the TV model, so verify that both your phone and TV support the method. Samsung also describes AirPlay and Tap View for supported devices; its guidance says an iPhone and Samsung TV must use the same Wi-Fi network for iOS screen mirroring. Consult Samsung’s model-specific mirroring guidance rather than treating every Samsung TV as compatible with every option.

Wireless discovery depends on the phone and receiver being able to communicate on the local network. Start with these checks:

- 4K Decode Input 1080P Output: Experience stunning clarity with 4K decoding that outputs a smooth 1080P@60Hz signal. This ensures your content, from high-resolution presentations to dynamic videos, is displayed in sharp, lifelike detail .
- Unique Cooling Design:With a more advanced Cooling design than other wireless hdmi kits, our wireless hdmi transmitter and receiver operate at significantly lower temperatures, effectively preventing overheating and signal loss, ensuring a smoother and more stable connection, thus enhancing the product's lifespan.
- 360FT/110M Range & 2.4G+5.8G Dual-Band Stability: Built with advanced 2.4G+5.8G dual-frequency chips for superior anti-interference, This wireless hdmi kit transmits signals up to 360ft/110m in open spaces or 165ft/50m indoors. It maintains a stable connection even when faced with obstacles such as furniture or partitions, making it a reliable choice for large homes, warehouses, exhibitions, bars, or backyards.(Note: Walls may have some impact on transmission distance and speed)
- Ultra-Low Latency for Real-Time Action: Designed for scenarios where every millisecond counts, our technology achieves near-zero latency. This is critical for live sports, professional presentations, and video monitoring, providing perfect synchronization between the source and display with no noticeable lag .Perfect for tidying up your home theater, office, or conference room, it's ideal for business presentations, classroom teaching, church services, live events, family movie nights, outdoor parties, or even weddings.
- Plug and Play & Mirror and Extend Mode: Get started instantly—no complicated apps, Wi-Fi, or software required. Just plug in the devices, and they connect automatically within seconds.Say goodbye to messy cables and complicated setups, and make your office or room tidier. Support both Extended and Duplicate screen modes to present or multitask seamlessly on a larger display, making every meeting, class, or any multimedia playback more efficient.
- Confirm compatibility. An iPhone needs an AirPlay destination; Google’s documented Pixel screen-casting route needs a Google Cast-compatible receiver; Samsung Smart View depends on supported phone and TV models.
- Check the Wi-Fi network. For AirPlay, Apple specifies that both devices should be on the same Wi-Fi network. Google recommends the same network name (SSID) for Cast and warns that access-point or client isolation can prevent discovery or setup.
- Improve the connection. Google recommends keeping devices close and on the same Wi-Fi channel. Distance, channel choice, and local network conditions can affect casting performance.
- Consider whether the problem is limited to one app. If the phone connects but a particular video does not play, check whether that app supports the chosen casting method. Some video apps do not support AirPlay.
Google’s network advice is in its screen-casting troubleshooting guide. Exact menus and supported features can vary by phone model, TV model, manufacturer, and software version.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesCan you mirror a phone without Wi-Fi?
The wireless procedures described by Apple and Samsung require a shared Wi-Fi network, and Google’s troubleshooting guidance relies on local network access for discovery. If wireless mirroring is unavailable or unreliable, a cable may work on a supported phone. This is a wired display connection, not a way to make an incompatible wireless receiver compatible.
Wired connection from an iPhone
Apple documents connecting an iPhone to a display using the appropriate USB-C or Lightning adapter and an HDMI or VGA cable. The right adapter depends on the iPhone connector and the display’s input. Apple also documents external-display support for specified newer USB-C iPhone models, but the exact model and suitable adapter matter. Check Apple’s cable-connection guide and USB-C connector guidance for your device before buying an adapter.
What to check before choosing a mirroring method
| Method | What it can do | What you need to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| AirPlay | Mirror an iPhone screen or stream supported video. | An AirPlay-compatible TV, Apple TV, or Mac; for wireless use, the phone and destination should be on the same Wi-Fi network. Apple Support |
| Google Cast screen casting | On the documented Pixel route, cast a single app or the full screen. | A compatible Cast receiver and phone support; other Android manufacturers may use different menus or methods. Google Pixel Help and Google receiver requirements |
| Cast from a supported app | Send supported media from an app to a receiver without mirroring the whole display. | A Cast-enabled app and compatible receiver; Google’s stated OS requirements apply to this workflow. Google Cast Help |
| Samsung Smart View | Show a supported Galaxy phone’s screen on a compatible Samsung TV. | Support on the exact phone and TV models. Samsung Support |
| Wired iPhone display connection | Connect a supported iPhone to a display through an adapter and cable. | The phone’s connector, model-specific external-display support, and the display’s HDMI or VGA input. Apple Support |
A “smart TV” label alone does not establish that a TV supports the protocol your phone uses. Verify the exact TV and phone models, then choose between whole-screen mirroring, in-app media casting, and a wired connection based on what you want to display.
