Yes. The Sonos Beam (Gen 2) supports Dolby Atmos when it receives an Atmos audio signal through your TV’s HDMI ARC or eARC connection. For most streaming Atmos, ARC can be enough; eARC is required for lossless Dolby TrueHD Atmos. Your TV’s pass-through settings, the source device, the specific title’s audio track and sometimes your subscription tier also matter.
What you need for Dolby Atmos on the Beam (Gen 2)
- A Sonos Beam (Gen 2) set up as a home-theater speaker. Sonos lists this model as Atmos-capable. Sonos explains the supported signal formats and setup requirements.
- A TV with an HDMI ARC or eARC port. Connect the Beam to the port labeled ARC or eARC, not an ordinary HDMI input. The Beam includes the HDMI cable needed for this connection. See the Beam setup guide.
- A TV and source device that can pass through Atmos. Check the manuals and audio settings for both. A compatible streaming box alone does not guarantee that Atmos will reach the soundbar.
- Content with an Atmos track. Atmos support varies by title and may depend on the streaming service or subscription tier. Check the provider’s current details for the title and region you use.
Does Dolby Atmos work over HDMI ARC, or do you need eARC?
It depends on the Atmos format. HDMI ARC can carry most streaming Atmos when it is delivered as Dolby Digital Plus and the TV passes it through. HDMI eARC is needed for lossless Atmos using Dolby TrueHD. So eARC is not necessary for every Atmos stream, but it is required for the lossless TrueHD route. Confirm your TV’s port capabilities and audio pass-through support in its specifications; Sonos notes that some TVs may not pass Atmos even when the source supports it. Sonos’s Atmos guidance describes these connection requirements.

How to connect and verify the Atmos signal
- Connect the Beam’s included HDMI cable to the TV port labeled HDMI ARC or HDMI eARC. Do not use a regular HDMI input for the TV audio-return connection.
- Check the TV and any external streaming device settings and manuals for Atmos support and audio pass-through. The signal must make it through the source and TV to the Beam.
- Play a title whose provider lists an Atmos audio track, using a plan that supports it if the service requires one.
- In the Sonos app, check Now Playing or About My System. Sonos says the app shows the audio format the speaker is receiving; look for Dolby Atmos.
What if your TV only has optical audio?
The Beam guide describes an optical adapter for TVs without HDMI ARC or eARC, but optical is only a fallback connection for other supported audio formats; it does not meet Sonos’s ARC/eARC requirement for Atmos. Sonos also notes that using optical removes CEC and voice control of the TV. If Atmos is a priority, check whether your TV can provide it over ARC or eARC before relying on the optical connection.
