The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra has an S Pen built into the phone, where it stores when you are not using it. Samsung describes it as the first Galaxy S-series model with an integrated pen; the Galaxy S21 Ultra’s S Pen was an optional accessory.
How the built-in S Pen works
Remove the S Pen from the slot on the bottom of the phone, then write or draw directly on the display. Samsung also documents handwriting input that converts writing to text and Smart Select, which can capture screen content or extract text. What you can do with it
- Write and draw: Use the pen directly on the screen for notes, annotations, and sketches.
- Convert handwriting to text: Use handwriting input to turn written text into typed text.
- Select screen content: Smart Select can capture content or extract text.
- Use remote controls: Bluetooth-based Air Actions can perform functions such as taking pictures or controlling media in supported apps. Samsung says the pen needs to be charged for Air Actions, and support can vary by app.
Samsung’s replacement-pen listing specifies a 0.7 mm tip and 4,096 pressure levels. Those are manufacturer-published specifications, not independent measurements. Details appear on Samsung Gulf’s Galaxy S22 Ultra S Pen product page.
Will another S Pen work with the S22 Ultra?
Compatibility depends on the pen and the function you want. Samsung says the S22 Ultra S Pen can be used with other models, but some functions may be limited. Some other built-in S Pens work for writing only, and Samsung specifically says the Galaxy Z Fold3 S Pen is not supported on the S22 Ultra. Do not assume that every S Pen works interchangeably; check Samsung’s model-specific compatibility guidance.

What to check if you need a replacement
If the original pen is lost or damaged, Samsung lists a replacement S Pen specifically for the Galaxy S22 Ultra. Its UK business listing identifies product code EJ-PS908BBEGEU; regional model codes and colors can differ. Before ordering, verify that the listing explicitly names the S22 Ultra, confirm the regional code and color, and check that it supports Air Actions if you need remote controls.
