Samsung lists NFC on its US Verizon configuration, but lists it as absent on specified Galaxy A12 models sold in the Gulf and Australia. Check the full model number and the Samsung specifications for your market or carrier before relying on NFC.
Why NFC support varies across Galaxy A12 models
“Galaxy A12” is a family name, not enough to establish whether a particular phone has NFC. Samsung’s US Verizon specifications list NFC for the SM-A125U configuration (Samsung US support page). By contrast, Samsung Gulf lists NFC as absent on the SM-A127F/DS, and Samsung Australia lists it as absent on the SM-A127FZKIXSA (Samsung Gulf specifications; Samsung Australia specifications).

These examples describe specific regional and carrier configurations; they do not establish NFC support for every A12 variant. Samsung cautions that specifications can differ by model, market, and carrier in its US Galaxy A Series announcement.
How to check whether your Galaxy A12 has NFC
- Find the complete model number. Check the phone’s Settings or its label and packaging. Record the full code, not just “Galaxy A12.”
- Match the sales market and carrier. Use the Samsung support or product page for the country and carrier configuration that applies to your phone.
- Check the NFC specification. Confirm that the exact listing says NFC is present. Do not infer it from the phone’s appearance, storage capacity, or a listing for a different country or model.
- Check the phone’s settings. On the A125 version covered by Samsung’s user guide, the path is Settings > Connections > NFC and payment. The guide says to tap this setting to turn NFC on (Samsung Galaxy A12 A125 user guide, hosted by AT&T). Menu labels can vary by variant or software; if the option is missing, verify the model’s official specification rather than assuming that a setting will add the hardware.
What NFC lets a supported A12 do
Samsung’s A125 user guide describes NFC as short-range communication with another NFC-capable device, use with certain payment apps, and tap-to-pay with a compatible reader. For the documented communication use, the other device must support NFC and be within four centimeters. The guide also describes Android Beam sharing; availability of a particular feature can depend on software and service support.

Having NFC hardware does not guarantee that a particular bank, card, payment app, or contactless payment service works. Check the service’s availability for your location and confirm that your issuer and card are supported.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Can NFC tags add NFC to an A12?
No. NFC tags work only when the phone already has NFC hardware. Samsung’s A125 guide documents using NFC tags with Voice Label, and says the tags are not included with the phone. An optional NFC tag or sticker can be useful with a supported variant, but it cannot retrofit NFC onto a model whose specifications say NFC is absent.
