When an external streaming player might make sense
A separate player is optional, not a requirement for ordinary streaming on a Select Series TV. Roku’s general 4K and HDR compatibility guidance discusses compatible Roku players and TVs, but does not say that a Select Series owner needs an external player to watch 4K or HDR content.

Check the exact Select Series model
Roku lists Select Series versions with 4K HDR and 4K QLED displays in different screen sizes. Features vary by model, so check the specific listing for the size and display type you want. The built-in streaming player means you do not need to choose an external device just to get streaming functionality.
