Compatibility depends on the exact edition. The Ultimate 2C Wireless Controller is officially documented for Android, while the separate Ultimate 2C Bluetooth Controller is documented for Nintendo Switch. The official materials reviewed do not establish iPhone support for either model.
Identify the exact Ultimate 2C first
“Ultimate 2C” is not one universal controller. 8BitDo sells two relevant editions with different documented platforms: the Ultimate 2C Wireless Controller and the Ultimate 2C Bluetooth Controller. Their names are similar, but their connection methods and published compatibility lists are not interchangeable.

Check the complete product name on the controller, box, manual, or retailer listing before you buy or start pairing. A listing that says only “Ultimate 2C” does not provide enough information to determine Switch, Android, or iPhone support.

Compatibility by edition
| Edition | Nintendo Switch | Android | iPhone | Documented connection and requirements |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ultimate 2C Wireless Controller | Not established by the reviewed official materials | Yes; Android 9.0 or later | Not established by the reviewed official materials | Official support information lists Windows and Android; the manual gives Bluetooth pairing instructions for Android. |
| Ultimate 2C Bluetooth Controller | Yes; Switch system version 3.0.0 or later | Not established by the reviewed official materials | Not established by the reviewed official materials | Official product information identifies Switch compatibility and documents Bluetooth and wired USB connections. |
“Not established” is deliberate. It means the official documents reviewed do not substantiate that pairing; it does not prove that a connection is technically impossible. Bluetooth capability by itself is not a compatibility guarantee, because controller firmware, operating-system support, input standards, and manufacturer certification all matter.
Using the Ultimate 2C Bluetooth Controller with Nintendo Switch
System requirement
The Bluetooth edition requires Nintendo Switch system version 3.0.0 or above according to its manual. Update the console before troubleshooting a pairing attempt on an older system.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Pair over Bluetooth
- Turn on the Ultimate 2C Bluetooth Controller.
- Hold the controller’s Pair button for three seconds to enter pairing mode.
- On the Switch, open Controllers, then choose Change Grip/Order.
- Wait for the controller to appear and complete the on-screen pairing process.
These are the documented Bluetooth steps in the Bluetooth Controller manual. Use this procedure for the Bluetooth edition; do not substitute the Wireless model simply because both products include “Ultimate 2C” in their names.

Use a wired USB connection
The same controller can be used with the Switch over USB. In the console’s settings, enable Pro Controller Wired Communication, then connect the controller by USB. The setting is necessary for the documented wired configuration.
If the controller is not detected by USB, verify that the wired-communication option is enabled before treating the cable or controller as defective. The official FAQ also covers the wired Switch connection: Ultimate 2C Bluetooth Controller FAQ.
Features the Switch version does not provide
Switch compatibility does not mean feature parity with every Nintendo controller. The Bluetooth Controller manual lists these unsupported Switch functions:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- NFC scanning
- IR camera
- HD rumble
- Notification LED
Games that depend on one of those functions will not receive it from this controller. Basic button and stick input can still be compatible while an individual console feature is unavailable.

Shake-to-wake behavior
The documented shake-to-wake behavior has a prerequisite: the controller must already be paired with the Switch. Shaking cannot replace the initial pairing process. Pair it through Change Grip/Order first, then use the wake behavior described in the manufacturer’s FAQ.
Using the Ultimate 2C Wireless Controller with Android
Minimum Android version
The Wireless model’s manual specifies Android 9.0 or above. That requirement applies to the Android procedure below and is not a compatibility statement for the Bluetooth edition.
Bluetooth pairing steps
- Move the controller’s mode switch to BT.
- Turn on the controller.
- For first-time pairing, hold the Pair button for three seconds.
- Open the Android device’s Bluetooth settings and select 8BitDo Ultimate 2C Wireless.
- Wait for the controller’s Status LED to become solid, which indicates a successful connection in the manual.
The device name matters: Android should show the Wireless model’s Bluetooth name, not a generic “gamepad” label. If the product in your hands is the Bluetooth Controller edition, the Wireless manual’s Android instructions do not establish that it will work with Android.

- Confirm that the mode switch is set to BT, rather than another connection mode.
- Make sure the controller is powered on before holding Pair for three seconds.
- Check that the phone or tablet runs Android 9.0 or later.
- Look specifically for 8BitDo Ultimate 2C Wireless in the Bluetooth device list.
- If the controller was paired with another device, disconnect that earlier connection and repeat the documented first-time pairing sequence.
The first four checks correspond directly to the manual’s requirements and procedure. The last step is a practical Bluetooth reset measure when a previously connected device is still claiming the controller.

What about iPhone?
Official documentation does not establish support
The official materials reviewed for both Ultimate 2C editions do not document iPhone compatibility. That is the accurate answer for a purchase decision: do not promise that either model works with an iPhone based only on the presence of Bluetooth.
The Wireless support area contains iOS references in software compatibility listings, but those references are not proof that the controller itself is supported by iPhone. They should not be converted into a controller-compatibility claim.
Why a Bluetooth scan is not enough
An iPhone might display a nearby controller, yet discovery alone does not establish usable game input. A controller must also use an input protocol that iOS accepts, and the manufacturer must document the model as supported. Because neither Ultimate 2C edition has iPhone support established in the reviewed official documents, a successful-looking Bluetooth prompt would not be a reliable basis for buying one specifically for iPhone use.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
If iPhone compatibility is essential, choose a controller whose manufacturer explicitly lists the exact iPhone or iOS support required. Do not infer it from the words “Bluetooth,” “wireless,” or “iOS” appearing elsewhere on a support site.

How to avoid buying the wrong edition
Read the full product name
Look for either Ultimate 2C Wireless Controller or Ultimate 2C Bluetooth Controller. Treat a shortened title as incomplete until the listing, packaging, or manual identifies the edition.
Match the platform statement to your device
- For Android, look for the Wireless edition and the Android 9.0-or-later requirement.
- For Nintendo Switch, look for the Bluetooth edition and Switch system version 3.0.0-or-later support.
- For iPhone, require an explicit manufacturer statement; the reviewed Ultimate 2C documents do not provide one.
Check the connection method
The Switch documentation for the Bluetooth edition covers both Bluetooth pairing and USB wired communication. The Android documentation for the Wireless edition uses the controller’s BT mode and a three-second Pair-button hold. A listing that describes a different connection method may refer to another edition or another controller.
Account for missing Switch features
If you need NFC scanning, an IR camera, HD rumble, or a notification LED, the Bluetooth edition’s manual specifically lists those functions as unsupported. Make that feature check before buying, not after pairing.
Troubleshooting by symptom
The Switch does not show the controller
First verify that you have the Ultimate 2C Bluetooth Controller, that the console is on system version 3.0.0 or later, and that you held Pair for three seconds. Then return to Controllers > Change Grip/Order. For a wired attempt, enable Pro Controller Wired Communication before connecting USB.
The Android device shows no controller name
Confirm that the controller is the Ultimate 2C Wireless Controller, the mode switch is at BT, and Android is version 9.0 or later. Power it on, hold Pair for three seconds, and search again for 8BitDo Ultimate 2C Wireless. A solid Status LED is the manual’s successful-connection indication.
You are trying to use an iPhone
There is no documented iPhone setup to follow for either edition in the reviewed official material. Do not treat a Bluetooth discovery result or an iOS mention in a software listing as confirmation of controller support.
