No—StreamYard says it does not impose a time limit on YouTube streams from its side. The often-mentioned 12-hour threshold concerns YouTube’s automatic replay archiving, not a stated cutoff that ends the live broadcast. The important distinction is that your stream may continue even when StreamYard recording stops or YouTube does not save a replay.

What happens if you use all your StreamYard Free hours while live?
StreamYard says a live broadcast already in progress will not be interrupted when you reach the Free plan’s monthly streaming-hour allowance. The allowance resets at the start of each month, and spending it prevents you from starting another broadcast until then.
- In StreamYard, open Billing > Streaming and recording hours to see the remaining allowance.
- If the allowance is exhausted, plan to start another broadcast after the monthly reset or check StreamYard’s current plan details. Do not treat the allowance as a timer that ends an active YouTube stream.
Can StreamYard record the whole event?
Not necessarily. StreamYard documents per-stream recording maxima of 10 hours on Core and Advanced and 24 hours on Business. These limits are separate from whether the live stream continues. Its storage guidance says streaming can continue after storage hours are exceeded, but StreamYard recording will be disabled. Check the current storage details and paid-plan features before relying on a StreamYard recording for a long event.

Will YouTube save a stream longer than 12 hours?
YouTube says a stream under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. That is a replay risk, not evidence of a 12-hour live cutoff. YouTube recommends keeping a local archive as a backup; make sure local recording is enabled and verify that it is capturing before the event, rather than assuming YouTube will preserve the full replay.
What to check before a very long broadcast
- Confirm your remaining StreamYard Free monthly hours under Billing > Streaming and recording hours, if you use that plan.
- Check your plan’s current StreamYard recording and storage limits if you need its recording to cover the whole event.
- For a broadcast longer than 12 hours, arrange and verify a local recording backup because YouTube may not capture the replay.
- Review the current official StreamYard and YouTube help pages before scheduling; documented limits and policies can change.
