Yes, with one important qualification: the answer depends on which StarCraft you mean. Blizzard’s official requirement pages list Windows 10 as a minimum operating system for StarCraft II and StarCraft: Remastered, and Blizzard’s Patch 1.18 notes say classic StarCraft and Brood War received improved compatibility with Windows 10. None of those sources promises that every old disc, outdated graphics driver, or legacy installation will run without trouble. The sections below separate the three products, list what each one needs, and explain where launch problems usually come from.
Which StarCraft Windows 10 support applies to
Three separate PC products are often grouped under one name, and each has its own evidence trail:

| Edition | Windows 10 status in Blizzard’s published evidence | Main caveat |
|---|---|---|
| StarCraft and StarCraft: Brood War (classic) | Blizzard’s Patch 1.18 notes state “Improved compatibility with Windows 7, 8.1, and 10.” The original manual documents requirements for older Windows releases but does not itself certify Windows 10. | The patch improves compatibility; it is not a blanket guarantee for every original disc or unsupported installation path. |
| StarCraft: Remastered | Windows 10 is listed as a minimum operating system, and Windows 10 64-bit is listed as recommended. | Real-time lighting has its own hardware requirement, and graphics support matters on older PCs. |
| StarCraft II | Windows 10 is listed as a minimum operating system, and Windows 10 64-bit is listed as recommended. | Blizzard says both multiplayer and single-player modes need an active internet connection. |
Do not apply StarCraft II requirements or connectivity rules to Remastered or classic StarCraft. The three products have different minimums.

For full graphics-card detail, use the supported video hardware lists linked from Blizzard’s requirement pages rather than relying on a summary.
Classic StarCraft and Brood War
Blizzard’s sources for the original game focus on compatibility improvements, not a current requirement table. The original manual records legacy system requirements that predate Windows 10, so treat it as historical reference rather than proof of Windows 10 support for a specific install.
Rank #2
- Build new units
- construct Lurkers, Medics, Valkyries, Corsairs, Dark Archons and more
- Explore new worlds
- storm frozen wastes, scour arid deserts and navigate the twilight worlds of the Dark Templar

Running classic StarCraft and Brood War on Windows 10
Blizzard’s Patch 1.18 notes give one specific instruction for the first run: use Run as Admin. Blizzard says this helps migrate saves and avoid problems tied to Windows system administration changes. To do it:
- Locate the game’s launcher or executable in its install folder.
- Right-click the file and choose Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt, let the game finish its first-run migration, and then launch it normally.
Blizzard presents this as a first-run step for the patched classic client, not a permanent fix for every launch failure.
Rank #3
- This is a standalone product. It does not require any other version of StarCraft II to play
- Internet Connection Required
- Battle.net registration and Battle.net Desktop Application required
Installing and launching Remastered through one client
A 2019 installation guide posted on Blizzard’s community forum describes classic StarCraft and Remastered as delivered through one shared client. According to that guide, buying Remastered unlocks its upgraded content, and the F5 key toggles between the original and Remastered presentation in-game. Because the guide is several years old, confirm the current launcher steps in the current Battle.net client before following them.

Work through these checks in order. Each one rules out a different cause.
- Match the edition to the requirements. Confirm you are checking the right table for StarCraft II, Remastered, or classic StarCraft, and that your RAM, storage, and display resolution meet its minimums.
- Check graphics hardware. Compare your graphics card against the supported video hardware lists linked from Blizzard’s requirement pages. This matters most for Remastered’s real-time lighting.
- Run the classic client as administrator once. If you are on the original game, use Run as administrator for the first run, as described above.
- Update your graphics driver. Outdated display drivers are a common cause of crashes and graphical faults on any Windows version.
- Use Blizzard’s support hub by category. Blizzard’s StarCraft support page organizes help for installation and patching, crashes, connection problems, performance, and sound issues. Pick the category that matches your symptom rather than searching generally.
If the game fails on a PC that meets the listed minimums, the support category for crashes or installation is the most likely route to a specific fix.
