Yes, Spectrum provides a Wi-Fi router with some Internet plans or Wi-Fi add-ons, but it is not included at no extra charge with every plan. Spectrum says its Internet plans include a modem; Wi-Fi service and a router depend on the plan and offer available at your address. Advanced WiFi is listed as a $10-per-month add-on for some plans and included with Internet Gig. Check Spectrum’s offer for your address before ordering.
Does Spectrum Internet come with a router and modem?
They are separate pieces of equipment. Spectrum’s modem connects your home to its network. A router creates the home Wi-Fi network. Spectrum’s Advanced WiFi service includes a router, while its FAQ says a modem is still needed. Spectrum’s residential Internet terms describe Wi-Fi service as wireless access through a Spectrum-provided router.

So, a plan that includes a modem does not automatically include Wi-Fi service or a router. Check the plan’s equipment details, not just whether it says a modem is included.

- Dual-band Wi-Fi with 5 GHz speeds up to 867 Mbps and 2.4 GHz speeds up to 300 Mbps, delivering 1200 Mbps of total bandwidth¹. Dual-band routers do not support 6 GHz. Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.

Can you use your own router instead?
You may prefer a customer-owned router rather than Spectrum-managed Wi-Fi, but confirm the setup with Spectrum before buying equipment. Its residential agreement says equipment may be provided at no charge or for a one-time or recurring fee, and restricts equipment connected to a cable modem outlet or port to Spectrum-authorized equipment. The material does not establish compatibility for any particular retail router.
- Ask Spectrum whether your intended router can be used with the modem and service at your address.
- Check whether you would still be charged for a Wi-Fi add-on if you use your own router.
- Compare any equipment fee with the ongoing cost and management features of Spectrum’s Wi-Fi service.
What router technology and coverage should you expect?
Spectrum says Advanced WiFi routers can use Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7. That does not mean every customer receives a Wi-Fi 7 router; confirm the hardware included with your specific offer. Spectrum also suggests Wi-Fi extenders for larger homes. An extender may help address coverage, but the available information does not verify compatibility for a specific third-party device.
