Slack Lists has a board layout that can group work into columns—such as To do, In progress, and Done—and let you move items between them. That makes it possible to use Lists as a Kanban-style board, although Slack documents it as a layout within Lists, not as a separate, full-featured Kanban product. How Slack’s board layout works
A Slack List holds work as items with fields such as task name, status, assignee, and due date. In board layout, you choose a field to group items into columns. Grouping by Status, for example, lets a team create its own workflow columns and move items as work progresses. Slack does not impose a particular set of status labels.

You can also view a list as a table. Saved views let collaborators switch between arrangements of the same list, with options to filter, sort, hide, or group items. Slack’s Lists overview describes the feature as a way to capture, track, and coordinate tasks in the workspace.

What you can track in Lists
Slack’s Project tracker template starts with Task, Status, Assignee, and Due Date fields; you can change or add fields to suit the work. Lists also support subtasks, which can have their own assignees and due dates.

Where Slack Lists fits—and where to be cautious
Lists is a practical option when a team wants lightweight work tracking close to its Slack conversations. The documented features cover fields, assignment, subtasks, views, board and table layouts, and item discussions. They do not establish that Lists has every advanced capability a team might expect from a dedicated Kanban, project-management, or issue-tracking system.
Check workspace access and plan settings before building a process around Lists. Lists are invite-only by default, and access levels control who can view, comment, edit, or share. Workspace owners and admins can manage Lists settings, including disabling the feature. Slack also says that if a workspace downgrades to the free version, existing lists become read-only and users cannot create new lists. When to connect a dedicated task tool
If your team needs a dedicated board or project or issue tracker, Slack documents integrations with products such as Trello, Asana, and Jira. Choose based on the work you need to manage, how much task detail and coordination it requires, and how updates should flow between the tool and Slack—not on a blanket claim that one tool suits every team.
